Wow that is a lot to try and figure out whilst you’re going through treatment. Here in the Uk we do not get to choose who treats us on the NHS unless of course you choose to pay and go privately. However I had an amazing team who made me feel validated, cared for and I knew that they were doing everything they could to give me the best possible care. I had the upmost confidence in my surgeon and oncologist and radiation oncologist. I had a lumpectomy so did not require a plastic surgeon. I really hope that you figure out what’s right for you and I’m sending lots of prayers for great CT scan results on 18th xx
Rebecca, this is my second comment. I had similar diagnosis and recall those 18 months. I had double mastectomy then radiation and finally reconstructive surgery. Your plastic surgeon should specialize in breast reconstruction and mine had been doing it for over 15 years. I traveled nearly an hour to get all of my treatments, surgery but did radiation locally as it is every day. Found a women’s breast cancer center in Chicago at Northwestern Hospital where I got my second opinion on treatment, surgery etc. Was so thankful I did because they are a research hospital that also has access to new drugs etc . I did have to still continue to ask a lot of questions to figure out what type of reconstruction surgery was right for me. I am a 14 year survivor who wants to encourage you that there is an end to all this treatment and trauma to your body. Prayers for comfort and remember one step at a time. My girls have chosen to have double mastectomies as we are all BRCA2 positive as well which is a genetic mutation. So bravery I showed through my fight helped them make their choice to increase their chances to live cancer free.
Wow! Northwestern is a consideration of mine. Do I need a plastic surgeon in addition to my general surgeon? Or...does one do both breast surgery (I am TNBC) and reconstruction?? I am so uneducated. HELP!!!
Hey Miss Rebecca, I don’t know if you saw my comment last time but I hope you’re doing OK. I love you and Harper so much. I’m praying for you. God will watch over you. I love you Harper and Molly so much. I’m praying for you.❤
I’m just curious if they do that it’s better to have a tumor marker test of blood test rather than biopsies or thermography because when they withdraw the biopsy needle, it can spread the cancer
P.S. Had same drug regiment as you except only Herceptin was available at that time for Her2 treatment. You are getting 2 drugs to treat your diagnosis. Seeing new treatments always advancing is encouraging.
