Here's an update about a week after the initial delivery of these two hybrid hives I built for a customer in Orlando. Everything is going very well. The customer has no concerns and he is extremely thrilled about these hives.

So why do the hybrid? Does it make the hive more stable? Just wondering the advantage of it - is it for the bees or the beekeepers, for standard extraction equipment use?

The customer wanted the ability to inject Langstroth frames because most nucs come in Langstroth form. But the idea is to then have them build on the top bar frames and have it mostly on top bars once it gets going.

@@TheBeeRescuer Thanks. As a newbie considering top bar v warre v something in between like a beecentric hive, it's great to get feedback from someone in the know. As I'm getting into bees late and want to continue as I age, a to bar hive seems a smart choice, but being able to use either Langstroth or National frames to start would be a real bonus. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing! FYI a polarized lens would kill the glare on the window.

What thickness plexiglass are you using, and what type of glue do you use for installation, or do you affix 1/4"x1" tack down strips for its placement? I kind of like the viewing port for easy inspection, but man, does that cross-comb look vicious already in there....beautiful, but vicious!

There wasn't any cross comb in there, LOL. But I use real glass and I use silicone placed down in a routed seating.

@@TheBeeRescuer Thanks for the reply! I'll tell you, sum of the angles of that comb as you were filming were so off of line from those frames they were really at sharp angles, and it didn't seem to be just the camera point of view either! The comb was really beautiful, but after they've had a few months in their does make me wonder about where that comb of theirs will be going!

Talk about some weight, those bad boys are gonna be heavy at 2/3 full!

But they aren't commercial hives, so there's no reason they need to be lifted/carried around.

They sure are nice looking hives though!

Beautiful. I like hives that look like a little house. Bees deserve it.
