EDIT: Now that I know a little more, I realise the screws I bought in bulk from Black's won't work well for pocket holes as they don't have the plain shank section at the top.
I've deleted the previous version of this review and added a new ending, based on a it more use of this jig. Unfortunately there are some serious issues with this pocket hole jig, so I couldn't let my endorsement remain online, as a matter of integrity.

Thanks for the update. I have been looking at this exact clamp for quite a while mainly because it can fit larger material than the kreg and i was finally decided after your review but now with the update i will definitely stay away. Thanks for the save

I am the exact same 50mm thickness which the Kreg doesn't do(38mm).

As I understand , pocket holes are a method of "joinery" so that you can avoid screwing into the end grain of your timber creating a stronger joint. You may have used the same pocket holes to fasten the butt joints of the window frame itself. Generally used in locations where the joint wont be visible in the finished piece .....

Two sayings I learned as a child (1) "You get what you pay for". and (2) "It only cast .5c more to go first class".

But this jig is *more* expensive than the Kreg equivalent! Agreed, though. A better jig doesn't cost much more than this one. (I've since learned that the Kreg K4 is now only available as old stock, as it has been discontinued).

I tried to comment on the original video, not sure what it didnt go through. I am also in NZ and I bought the small tool shed one and it gave me the same results as you got, it quickly became unusable. I landed up ordering the kreg 520pro through amazon. Just better value for money with the kreg as I also got pocket screws, a flat clamp and a generally better product. Also a mention on the screws, pocket hole screws dont have thread going all the way to the head because that part is supposed to spin free in the panel you are screwing in from, pulling the panels together then resting on the flat side of the head like you mentioned. I have a few tools in my workshop from the tool shed that I do love, but the pocket hole jig is not one I would recommend.

Thanks for the comment! My experience with other purchases from the ToolShed has been very good as well. I got my 14" bandsaw there some years ago, and although it is pretty basic, it is still going strong and performs brilliantly. This jig is a dud, though. I do suggest adding a review at their website to make sure they know people are having this problem.

The vacuum attachment will help with the blowout you are getting on the edge of the holes.

Yes, that does make a difference. It's mostly caused because I'm drilling across the grain. I'll make a habit of using the vacuum when I buy the Kreg as a replacement. ;)

if you screw the clamp bck a bit the handle will toggle over and lock in to place so you don't have to hold on to it and it will hold the work better

Yes, I discovered that right after recording the video. Typical!

Hi Glenn (did I get it right?, apologies if not) I am not quiet sure but would opening more of the capacity of the clamping-mechanism eventually lead to finally lock the handle by moving it way deeper in it´s direction so one´s hand wasn´t needed to keep the plank clamped? Sad storry anyway. Nevertheless appreciation of how you see and handle things. Big like round the planet from Germany to the best place on earth.

Thanks so much for your comment, I really appreciate it. And yes, I figured out how to properly lock the clamp.

You really wouldn't want to use pocket holes on projects bigger than 1.5 inches. Do you even get pocket hole screws that long for 3" Boards?
