So it was suggested that I ditch the screws and go through bolts, so I did. This is the updated video of that.
Follow along as I show you how to install a ladder on a boat.

Before starting the screw use a countersink bit just through the gelcote

You didn't need the bolts. I installed the same ladder with 5200 and stainless screws and I'm 6'3, 330# and holds me just fine. Just FYI for anyone who can't access the underside of the deck you're installing this on, as was my case.
@AJOutdoors1

You may be right, but I do feel more comfortable having the bolts.

that looks simple and easy tho me my self will add tiny string between first and last step to help out to fold it back before you fold whole ladder on to boat again and hanging string could help out again as you end up in water and forget to fold out from swimming mode i guess anyway great vid

Great video, I have the same ladder on my triton cc. The only thing I would suggest is use stainless bolts and nuts with locking nuts and large washers. In addition to the 5200. I am not a big guy, but after tons of use, I found the ladder screws can start moving from the rocking or pulling when people use it alot. Once the ladder gets any movement, it will start pulling the screws. Save your self the headaches, and use nuts and bolts with large washers(washers help distribute some load).....IF you can get to the underside, mine is a pain but accessible. ...just my 2c. Great ladder though...side note, when you are in the water, you dont put as much strain on it, I try not to use it on land....because it puts way more stress on it.

Thank you for the input! I did have a couple nuts come loose, I used some lock tite to keep it from happening again.

Great video! Thanks for recording it. I bought the same ladder as a replacement to an existing one that has round rungs that are painful to the foot when you step on them. Unfortunately, I have to re-drill holes as the mounting brackets to my existing ladder are not spaced the same as the new one. My problem is that my existing ladder has through bolts that are a VERY LONG reach from my access door to the underside of the platform. I thought the best way to access the nuts to remove the existing ladder is to tape a wrench to an extension handle (piece of wood or pipe). It's just very awkward, so I would appreciate any advice you may have that may make it easier. - Again, GREAT video!

Thank you! Without seeing it, its hard to tell, but if you have a deep well socket to fit the nut, and a long breaker bar to put it on you can get that on there and than just unscrew from the top. I hope you get it figured out!

Your 5200. Put Vaseline in the cap. Any thing like it works. Neosporin, greese, etc

Yeah, someone else suggested that, too. It does work.

Nice, helpful video. Did you get video of it in use on the water? Some ladders are hard to use because the weight lifts the bow, and the ladder gets to an awkward angle for climbing.
@AJOutdoors1
@AJOutdoors1 3 года назад
Thank you for the kind words. I did not get video of us using it, but it worked well. I may add a garb rail one the deck there to make it easier to get in.

Great video with great detail. Me and my son are installing a 42” high grab rail on his fiberglass skiff. We cannot thru bolt it. Do you think this same system would work or should we put a fiberglass cutting board under the feet of the bar before screwing it down onto the deck. The deck is pretty solid. Thanks for any advice.

@AJOutdoors1

Thank you! other than a bolt working a little loose, I have had absolutely 0 issues. It stays pinned tight to the deck/cover and doesn't budge.

You could add a rubber nav light pole mount at the front of the ladder to keep it secured!

@Mihalyofficial

thanks for the tips but I would not want the ladder to be so close to the transom as the ladder hitting the rub strip might eventually cut it as the edge of the boat under the strip is sharp
@stephanieashton-smith716
@stephanieashton-smith716 6 месяцев назад
Another thing to consider….when the ladder is flush with the rubber strip it can pinch a finger. I recently lost half my finger on this type of ladder in that way.
