I had a lot of comments on my original Tesla Model Y DIY Curb Rash Fix Video asking me for an update. I have also had a lot of Tesla owners purchase the repair kit listed below and attempt to repair on their own. I recently scratched my front driver side rim and thought this would be a good opportunity for a video update using a Dremel tool instead of the sand sponge.

I’m about to do this but use the T sport line matched paint instead of spray paint. A lot more expensive but I ordered it before I saw this. Wish me luck!

@@TeslaModelYdaho In my case it wasn’t my fault. I usually like to wash my car in my driveway but in the winter times is hard to deal with the cold weather so I took it to a “regular car wash” and their wheel cleaner did the damage (MY BIG MISTAKE). I felt it right away when I was still going through the car wash and when I got outside to give a better dry I saw the damage in the same spot as yours. I was a little upset and I went there to talk to them and for my surprise they only offered me the money back and I did take it. Looking on youtube for solutions I came across your video that costed me almost nothing to fix.

Have you tried wet sanding after paint application? Do you think it will make a difference in the finish? Great video. Thanks!

got exactly the same kind of mini scratch curb rash, after only one week of owning my brand new MYP:( I have sand it out with 1000 and 1200 sand paper and applied a bit of paint...I'm waiting for a special uberturbine paint to make it look better.

Worst feeling when you hear that grind. 🥶. Do you think the 1000 grit made a big difference than say 150 / 220? Best of luck getting it looking better. Let me know if you find a match for the UT rims.

@@wanderlustjohn it’s not a good feeling when you hear that rim scraping the curb. It’s crazy, I always look at other peoples Tesla rims when I am out and about and 9 outta 10 have a rim rash. Anyways, good luck! You will do great, it’s easy to make them look nice again.

I haven’t tested, but I do not think they are the same color rims.

I reckon it’s good enough a diy repair for a rim bcos somehow more kerb damage could happen over the years. So, it’s no point fretting over them spending too much money with professionals. At some stage your spend with professionals could buy you a new style rim easily. So simple repairs is practical n economical. Well done!

I tried the Rustoleum 248928 on my 2022 20" induction wheels and do not think it is an adequate match. The shade of black does not match in the sunlight.

Thanks for the comment. Let me know when you find a better match. I am not sure if the rims are different than the 2020 induction rims, but mine are not easy to distinguish where the touch ups are.

I have the tesla model y performance with the 21 inch wheels and have always used the rimsavers. It's the right rim coverage for most of your rashes. Maybe you can look into it. The package comes with enough to cover 4 22 inch rims I believe

I have made it a habit to not select any parking spots that are anywhere near a curb 😝

I have them and I guess you could say they work to minimize damage but if you so much is kiss the curb, you’re definitely going to rip off the guard and to make it look nice again you have to order another one at $25. And guess what, odds are you’re still going to scratch your rim.
