You two are creating some wonderful memories together as mother and daughter, while providing some outstanding content to the natural hair community! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Omg. I’m new to this. Had no idea until yesterday. Before that I was told not to over do the protein. Now this. Thx goodness I have kinky curly. I live in Florida n I was hating the frizz
Haven’t watched the whole video yet, so you may get to this. But it’s not just glycerine you have to look out for - there’s other humectants that act just like it & if one causes you problems in humidity they all may. Like sorbitol, honey, propylene glycol, etc. In some formulas oils (like coconut) may balance out the effects, so like most things - it’s not quite that simple, and may require some trial & error, because everyone’s hair is different.
Yeah, but these are not as heavy duty (and not as popular), so they have fewer side effects. For most people it's actually winter (like the true, cold winter) that's the worst time for humectants, summer is more forgiving, it's all about dew points, not humidity itself. As for formulas, I would add that film forming agents, both natural like xanthan gum and even more the polymers, polyquats and such will be even more important than oils. Another thing is porosity - seemingly lower porosities get more benefits and less side effects from humectants than hp. Last point - concentration is another factor - first few ingredients are ones to praise or blame for effects, good or bad.
The Georgia Curlies appreciate you for sharing this! 🙌🏾. I can’t wait for you to try Curl Theory and Tres Luxe!!! I love BLeave In! Thank you for letting me know it’s similar 💙💙
Just watched this in August 2022. Thank you for this detailed video. I've been natural for the seven years, however, I feel I'm just now in a place where I'm focusing in on knowing MY hair. One of the things I've discovered is that my hair is both kinky and curly and that I need glycerin free products to hold my curl. Thank you for this work. ❤
@@blackgothgoddess3164 It has some coconut oil in it yes. My hair likes coconut oil but a lot of people are sensitive to it. I’ve never tried uncle funky’s daughter yet but I want to
@@linziesantana4748 it's similar to the Kinky Curly Custard to me. Both give me amazing results! Helps my hair curl all the way up to the root as well as the spots that don't curl that easily. I recommend both.
You ladies were just in time! I'm in GA and was messing with my hair today at work wondering why it's acting out. I just went natural last fall and after checking all of my products, every last one has glycerin within the first couple of ingredients. Uncle Funky`s has been calling my name, I'll push past my mental block of the price 😅 Y'all are such a blessing. #thankGoditspayday #madcurlsmademedoit #glycerinfree
I am brand new to accepting my kinky curly hair, and figuring out how to actually style it and take care of it, after damaging it after over 20 year of abusing it with flat irons etc. I am pretty sure that I am needing to stay away from glycerin, and I happen to come across your video, WOW thank you so much for this, you took smooch time in doing this, it really helped me alot, and I am really glad I found your channel. Thank you again!
Great video! Some of these might not have glycerine but they still have other humectants which does similar things to glycerine My favorites are the camille rose almond jai, coconut water style setter and mielle pomegranate twisting cream
Thanks for this video, perfect timing for the summer! I got a bomb wash and go with the Camille Rose Aloe butter gel and Uncle Funky’s curl magic- both glycerin free. I used the latter on top for more hold 💛
Thanks for this, I feel my world turns upside down every year when humidity befalls NY. Quick note-agave is a humectant also..Alikay gel is my fave but my wash n go from last night is definitely poofy today. Paired it with Carol’s Daughter coco creme (bought it after your vid) really love it but may be to moisturizing for high humidity. I think a good trick in high humidity season is to eliminate moisturizing creme and opt for one and done curl gel, get the moisture from the air..prolong wash n go
I have been watching you two ladies since the winter 2018. And you know🧐I just realized I am not subscribed. But I love your videos and thank you for a glycerin free product list. That is a lot of work👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾. Subscribed ✅ Like✅ I adore the relationship. I know y’all have ups and down but y’all are dynamite together. Prayers and blessings to you both.
#glycerinfree so far I’ve used Kinky curly knot today and alikay Lemongrass gel and it’s hot here in Georgia and my wash n go has lasted!!! No frizz!!! Thank you ladies!!!
Lori & Taylor, thank you for helping me to embrace my very curly hair as well as sharing helpful ways to care for it. I love the Curls Blueberry Bliss products!
New to your channel amb's just wanted to say love the mother daughter idea! I also wanted to say thank you for sharing the difficult times for being so transparent
Thanks for the video. Next time if you could put the list of all the products in the description box or a picture of all the products typed out so I can take it with me in the store lol
Commenting as I watch lol Camille Rose Naturals Curlaide Moisture Butter- I use it as a refresher when my second or third day hair feels dry. When I do this I typically get about a 5-6 day wash and go with a shiny bun for the last day (or 2 if I’m lazy)
Stina Baby21 😍🙌🏽💗 Thank you for this tip! I’m going to try this because sadly my Curlaide has literally been collecting dust and I think this would be a great use for it! I put it on my hair today & I am in love 😍 idk why I haven’t reached for it more often (#productjunkieproblems 😂)
Great video Ladies but if you have sensitive nose. Do not use the mane gel. I have a sensitive nose. when I put the gel in my hair I got a headache. I had to washed it out right away.
Great video, I need to start a play list and keep this there. Because of you ladies my husband thinks I am nuts purchasing so many products! Keep me coming lol
I don't know if you remember but I followed your advice and bought the travel size of Creme brulee and Lemongrass leave in and Argain oil and my results were amazing (but I don't like the smell, is too strong). Anyway, I forgot to buy these products and I was using Devacurl (decadence, light defining gel and coconut cream) and for some reason my hair looks dry and frizzy after day 2. I remembered couple of days ago your recommendation with Alikay and I bought it. It arrive yesterday and I am using it today. So far my hair looks shinny, so I know I will have a nice result!! Now watching your video, I believe that the reason my hair was dry is the Glycerin! Here in Miami is too hot and extremely humid! PS: I forgot to use the discount code, I'm sorry :-(
#GlycerinFree Thanks girlies! This was very helpful, I just tried the Kinky Curly duo a few weeks ago and I love it. Hope you guys hit 20k this summer! You two are amazing❤
Omg! Finally Glycerin Free videos! Me being a southern Ga peach been searching for glycerin/humectant free videos! So glad I stumbled across you 2!!! Lol can tell you guys are northern chics! The accent! Too cute.
Like you, I had a full jar of Curlaide, but thanks to 2 of your commenters on this video, I decided to use it to twist my hair today. I’ve always remembered it to be very moisturizing, but for some reason I’ve let it collect dust! So I’m going to try to put it to good use now! My twists are very moisturized & actually pretty enough to wear as a style until they dry! So I’m excited to see the results 😊💗
I really appreciate the time, energy, and love put into your videos! This really helps us out a lot when searching for something that could work on our hair! Thanks again 😘
Thank you so much for this video. Glycerin has become a huge problem for me. Do you know if Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, are glycerine? I’m confused by some of the ingredients on labels that are similar to glycerine.
rochelle serrell I think that’s more so if there’s a lot of moisture in the air. The winters where I live are dryer so glycerin isn’t problematic for my hair. But the summers are super humid so I avoid glycerin and other humectants or else my hair will be a frizzy mess. I say just test it out based on your location and what your hair like/dislikes. It’s all trial and error.
Me too. I've heard glycerin in your hair during winter i.e. dry weather will cause the dry air to pull the moisture from your hair, in the process, opening up hair cuticle and causing major frizz. I'm confused now.
it really depends on your hair and how cold it gets. Usually, Glycerin brings moister to hair but in humidity then maybe the glycerin is overdoing the moister. maybe use glycerin but more on the lower end list but still in the first 5-7. In the winter glycerin will try to balance things out so it WILL take your hair moisture and give it to the environment, but again depending on your climate and the tendency. watch manes by mell. She is a hairstylist and she knows her stuff.
This was CRAZY HELPFUL! Love your relationship! WILL SUBSCRIBE! I live in Puerto Rico! So imagine that! Congrats on your channel! Looking forward to see more of you two! Godsend ❤
MAD Curls is Killin’ It on this video and HUGE list of suggestions! Thanks ladies! The dew points are for REAL in Houston, so this will be super helpful this summer! Two other favorites of mine are Biolage Gelee and Aveda Confixor (some glycerine far down the ingredients list) and I’ll have minimal frizz where people give me compliments on my 3a curls when I mix those two.
🖐🏾 Atlanta, Georgia native here (currently residing in an Atlanta suburb). Typically, I use glycerin products all year and have not noticed a difference in my hair. I will try your method next summer to see if there is a difference. Thanks for compiling the list. Happy Thanksgiving!
Both of you are sooooo gorgeous and your videos are so informative and I love that you share this awesome channel as a team. Makes me really wish I could have been raised by my mom.❤️ New subbie. Thank you
Thank you I was up at 2am and found your channel about glycerin I live in Ga and did not know nor understand this so thank you maybe now I can figure out my hair💁🏽♀️💆🏾♀️ so It wont be puffy anymore 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
Love when you ladies do #gylcerinfree products. But... I think the Melanin Cream has glycerin in it. 😔 I was gonna buy it when it came out and I seen the glycerin and didn't get it. It's kind of far down the list though, it's like the 15th ingredient.
yes like NETTA Davis is correct... during the winter months it is best not to use glycerin as the main top 3 ingredients because due to the lack of moisture it will take moister from the hair and distribute to the environment NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND LIKE SHE MENTIONED.
Hi Mad Curls! 😍💚💛 I’m from the south 🙋🏽♀️ & love y’all so mech too 😉 can’t wait to watch this video! Wanted to try something different in my product junkie stash & figured this video would be helpful in my selection. The last one really helped me last summer! I know I’m super late to the party since it’s September 😂 but here in NC we’re still combating humidity. Both of your ringlets look so pretty & defined! 😍💛🖤 can’t believe that’s Day 3 hair! 🤩 & I agree with another commenter that said the background brings out Lorianne’s eyes 🤩💚💛
My Honey Child's Aloe Vera Leave-in Treatment is also glycerin-free. It's also on sale for $5. Everything on their site is on sale for a very low price; I'm not sure why. A lot of their products are sold out, but the leave-in is still in stock. I love their leave-In. I'm in Florida, so I need glycerin-free products!
I attached the link to the leave-in on their website. I'm wondering if they're going out of business or maybe they are changing over products. But they have their 16 ounce deep conditioner on sale for $7, regular price was $26. But here is the link to the leave-in. I ordered three a couple days ago, and it shipped today. Keep in mind, you will have to pay shipping if you don't spend $75, but considering I used to pay $13.99 for the leave-in, it was worth it. www.myhoneychild.com/collections/leave-in-conditioners/products/aloe-vera-leave-in-treatment-8oz
Hey there! 🤗 my hair HATES glycerin and does not do well with glycerin-based products in the South African climate thank you for this video! Would you consider doing a silicone-free video in future? Love your videos you guys are so informative and consistent, my fave RU-vid channel ❤️
I love this video! So much info thank you! Curlsmith must’ve reformulated the oil in cream because I just bought it a few months ago and glycerin is 2nd.
I 🖤💚🧡💚🖤 the camo backdrop! I'm definitely going to try the CRN Curl Maker as a 1 n done! TA's hair came out great for day 3! I haven't heard of Curl Theory, but I'm now looking forward for the review! Thanks for the updated list!!! 💖💖💖
Love the background! Your hair looks so good for day three, haha no glycerin. I have always loved Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in, but i never used the curling custard, and it is glycerin free!! I am definitely getting that for my stash. Jessicurl's Rockin Ringlets has glycerin, oh no, I thought it was glycerin free. Oh well gain one, loose one. I also love Ouidad Heat and Humidity Gel (in the white bottle), no glycerin, which I was surprised to find that out. The one in the red bottle has glycerin. I was so disappointed last year when I checked all of my DevaCurl products and most of them have glycerin as the second ingredient. Oh well I have enough glycerin free products for the summer. Thank you for all of the work to get this video done. Love ya.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO. ❤️ I think the curling custard has glycerine. Went to the beauty supply last week and read the label. Don’t know if it was a new or old bottle. Haven’t found a way to use the Camille Rose butter. It sits on top of your hair and dries it out.
Glycerin pulls so much moisture from humid weather that our strands absorbs all the moisture it can but cuticles won’t close because strands pull moisture all day from moisture in the air. Never closing cuticles. Like a sponge. Only holds so much water until water drips out
