Debian 11 on windows 10 virtualbox with ha supervised is the best choice to keep full control of the systems and use apps off the 2 worlds. I use winsound to play wav files via mqtt messages and python scripts? also to send processor temperature to home assistant and windows SAPI tts

Hey, that error message is a known bug in the newer versions, you can try to use an older one, which is why I share the version I'm using, or use any other software like gnome disks like my pinned comment says.

Thank you! Installation boots up on an HP ThinClient to the HAOS terminal command prompt. Then you just kind of skip over the next part.. what do I do next? it says put in the IP address into your web browser, but I can't find any web browser associated with HAOS. any suggesstions on where to go from the command prompt to actually get Home Assistant to start?
@BinaryTechLabs

Ah sorry, that hp thin client will get an IP address, use that ip address in another computer's web browser and you will see the onboarding page. Http://IP_ADDRESS:8123 The :8123 is the port that home assistant runs on

I followed your instructions, but with Belena Etcher i couldn't flash the image to drive, the notbook froze at 33%. So i tried to write the image with the build in gnome disk and it worked. Then after restart i get a message "reboot and select proper boot device". I have set the boot in de Bios to UEFI, the secure boot option is not an option in my BIOS so i can't enable or disable this. I also checked if i could specify the EFI entry, i saw this at the Home assistant site, but when i "sudo efibootmgr" in the terminal it says "EFI variables are not supported on this system". That is strange becaus the Bios says i can enable and Disable EUFI Boot option. So i don't know what i can try next to make it work. I have a Samsung Series 5 NP535U3C-A02NL. Installing Ubuntu on the SSD works just fine.

I installed Debian 11 on the laptop and then supervised HA on it - works great as well
@BinaryTechLabs

Great to hear that, going that route is fairly advanced, as you have to manage a lot more, and the dev team does not really support that method.
@zyghom

balenaetcher wont let me check the execute as program. i did the apt and libefuse2 still nothing. i tried double clicking it and it just said no application. can i just install ubuntu and make my laptop ubuntu instead of windows will i still be able to install home assistant?
@BinaryTechLabs
@BinaryTechLabs Год назад
Balena etcher is not the program that does that. It's the live environment of Ubuntu that does. This will wipe out the laptop and it will be only for home assistant, and you'd use another computer to access the web interface. You need 2 USB drives for this, one is a bootable version of Ubuntu called a live OS, you plug it in to the computer before it boots and then it will boot from that USB

Thanks for the videos. First time I tried this everything went smoothly till the final boot. Just a blinking cursor. Plugged in usb drive, Ubuntu live, look at disk and there were multiple partitions with HA about the 4th one. None of them mounted. What should the disk partitions look like ? I'll try again and see what transpires.
@BinaryTechLabs
@BinaryTechLabs Год назад
Home assistant will make 7 partitions, if I remember that correctly, it takes a bit before it unpack and installs everything, then it should connect to your network
@TheCrash486

@@BinaryTechLabs gets to 26% freezes. Screen goes blank after a while then it presents the user name signon screen. If I perform a shut down, remove usb, a restart just gives a flashing cursor. No boot. 8 partitions are created but a huge portion of the disk is left unallocated. Using latest Ubuntu, 1.18 of balena, added the universal and libfuse2. Always has to be one person, right?
@BinaryTechLabs

@BinaryTechLabs
@BinaryTechLabs Год назад
That is weird. Others reported that flashing stops, but it does successfully flash. If you reboot up with the live environment it won't mount the drive. If you reboot without the live usb what happens? You should see this screen at some point.

when i get to the step of verifying permissions on the balenaetcher appimage file, i can check the allow executing check box but it immediately unchecks. Thoughts?
@BinaryTechLabs
@BinaryTechLabs Год назад
That's a weird one, only thing I can think of off hand is somehow you don't own the file. So on the terminal in the directory where the file is try running this command to add the needed permissions: sudo chmod +rwx 'filename' Where 'filename' is the actual filename of the appimage
@DrKalinoski
