In my honest opinion. I like the old pick up better than the cool tube one. the old cool tube pick ups are nice. the new released one not so much. thank you for showing me how to change the EQ box.

Good info video by you actually I'm facing noise humm ground issue so do I need to change saddle pick up or there can be issue in pre-amp also regarding noise humm.?????
@olivierjezequel
@olivierjezequel 6 месяцев назад
I never encounter a hum issue with it. Maybe double check the connections first, if all is well plugged. Usually a bad grounding would hum when left alone but be quiet once you touch the strings (especially bare feet). Unless the preamp is faulty I don't see why it would hum. I don't remember if there is a ground on the pickup try to see if there is something that looks broken or unplugged. I didn't change my pickups and if they work, I don't you would need to. A common source of hum is the electric stuff on the same line or room that can interfere. The first questions that pop in my mind are : are you too close from your screen ? is there big light or hungry electric stuff around ? (fridge for exemple...). Try to unplug stuff one by one until the hum is gone, that's a good way to find out the source. You can try plug your amp/computer to a different wall socket if you have multiple sources... If nothing of that works, try using the guitar to someone else place/setup to see it the problem is still there, that will tell you for sure that the problem comes from the guitar. Maybe someone on the takamine Facebook group or other group would have other ideas how to solve it. I hope this is a bit of a help. Olivier

Hope do notice me, why you'd change your pickup preamp? is the wirings not curable or fragile already???

Hi, I explain in the video (with my broken English ;) ) that I had corrosion in the preamp that keep breaking the sound. I cleaned it few times but it was still happening so I decided to replace it. I first wanted to replace with the same but realised I had plenty of choices. I am happy with the new one, it has more highs and is now easier to EQ in the mix.

wait til you hear how it sounds when you add a Takamine Triax to the soundhole ;-)

Funny you mention that :), I choose to add a soundboard transducer instead and just released a video about it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1uNzPU0cwoI.html

@@olivierjezequel i will check it out. The Takamine Triax is a rebranded LR Baggs soundhole humbucker that was designed to work specifically with the cool tube preamp, if you ever get the chance check it out, they really work extremely well together

I love the way the Graph EX and cool tube on sound 🔥
@olivierjezequel
@olivierjezequel 2 года назад
So you like the warmth, and I tend to go toward it too. But the Graph-EX sounds very muddy in the test, almost no high end sparkles. I often ended up EQ quiet extremely that guitar on recordings. The CTP3 has too much highends, it kind off shocked me at first and it is definitly not pleasing. But lets not forget that I tested those on flat EQ, and I never leave the EQ flat, so they both can sound better than what i tested. But overall, I think the ctp3 has a lot more range than the GraphEX, so once dialled on a tone i like, it would be a lot easier to EQ on recordings... hopefully, I haven't used it yet. And with the cool tube on, I am hoping the sound to feel more natural like if I had a mic too. Fingers crossed :)

@@olivierjezequel oh yeah definitely you’ll get a much warm sound when the cool tube is on and yes your absolutely right, CTP has a lot of highs and isn’t really good, but once’s EQ properly you’ll have a guitar sounding super rich and warm, I’m excited for you, I got the CTB4 and a CTP2 on a 12 string, hopefully I get a good sound out of it, anyways great job on the video

Will the cool tube fit a gd90 ce takamine? Best wishes Colin UK 🇬🇧 😊

@olivierjezequel Год назад
Hi, I am not familiar with that model. I looked on the website and it seems that it will not fit, but you can dig a bit more to confirm. "The TK-40 and TP-4T preamps are both designed for use only in G Series model guitars and are not compatible with Pro Series Takamine guitars made in Japan." I found it there : www.takamine.com/pre-amps

Hey Jez, the 3 looks bigger than the other one. How was fit and finish?
@olivierjezequel
@olivierjezequel Год назад
Hi, it is definitly longer and I now can see the wire plug in the sound hole, but on the other sides it fits like a glove. The preamp is still well hidden though, so in theory and with a bit diy it should be possible to hide the wire a bit better. My guitar is a big one, if yours is small, there could be a chance you would see the bottom of the preamp. Not sure how that changes from model to model. I haven't recorded much with it since but the little I did, I had a lot more range in to EQ. No regret changing it.

How old is your old preamp?
@olivierjezequel
@olivierjezequel 5 месяцев назад
not sure, I bought that guitar I think around year 2000, a bit before a bit after not sure. So 24 years old is a good round guess. I don't remember if the corrosion is age or battery leak based, probably a bit of both.

Playing only six strings on a twelve string? Trussrod maybe too strong/ too tight for just six strings?
@olivierjezequel
@olivierjezequel 8 месяцев назад
@@kiekerjan666 possibly, I have often wondered that too. That guitar never had a setup in the 25 ish years I have had it. It is back in 12 at the moment. I need to have a go with the trussrode when I muster the courage. To be honnest it is still very stable and reliable, just a bit of buzzing that don't really occure when I just use it for struming, which it most of the time...
