In this Video i see a real disadvantages of analog gear is that you waste a lot of time setting it up and have less space in your studio, but now or less surely for „real“ mastering analog gear seems to be a must have.

Thanks for this video... This reaffirms that I never want to have an analog studio again. Thank god for being in the box. I don't miss these days at all. I still have a studio with monitors and controllers but have got rid of 90% of the gear. BTW thanks for the Velcro idea. I have a few controllers that keep sliding around and I think the Velcro is the perfect solution.

remember, Reaper is wierd with rme, turn off harware latency reporting, and use reapers software solution, so your prints are in real time, otherwise they will be offset a tiny bit
@mixedproduce9787
@mixedproduce9787 Год назад
Any details or link for those unaware of the reaper solution?
@Mrlultime
@Mrlultime Год назад
I have never heard of that issue and I don't seem to have any on my setup (last version of Reaper, Windows 11 and an RME UCX II with the latest driver). I have not found any discussion about it online. What are you talking about? I measured the latency with the loop test (plug a cable from an output to an input on the same sound card). On that system, compensated by the driver, it was 0 sample.
@oldskool9783
@oldskool9783 Год назад
@@Mrlultime There is round trip latency that occurs when moving a source in and out of reainsert, there are two ways around it. first, after pinging the device for a latency offset, bypass reainsert and reactivate it, this will phase align the audio (i dont know why rme and reaper do this) another solution requires a few steps, but makes it so you never have to od the ping, bypass rectivate dance.. and thats turning off hardware latency reporting and have reapers latency compensation do what it does. P.s mysetup is hdspe aio, aes to rme adi2 pro fs chained with the ucx II... I have a hybrid setup and ive been with RME a long time. Im would never discredit their amazingness. the bug is strange, and far as I know, it probably effects other vendors more than it does RME.

one of the best parts of doing a nice full redo on one’s studio is getting to re-remember all those good ideas you had along the way that made it possible! Fully defining and documenting the studio gives workflow peace of mind, but also a lot of appreciation for the improvisation, creativity and messiness that makes it special. great video and best of luck w the new config!

Great video - I am going through a revision of my much more modest studio, and am happy I don't have as many cables to handle as you. I replaced my 12 year old Mac Pro, and Digidesign 003 with a Mac Studio Ultra and an MBOX Studio, and between updating software and rerouting cables, I am busy. The results are worth it - the new Mac is silent, so much better when recording with microphones.

Wytse - I love how you solved a riddle I have been scratching my head at for a year or so. You use a power conditioner as a main hub for power strips! It seemed so obvious when I saw it on this video, but my mind was stuck on the way the Type A / B connectors in the U.S.A. work. The larger EU connector was always obnoxious in a way. @apendica
@apendica Год назад
I have rackmount power strips, they take up more rack space than they seem, as they are generally very shallow and also adaptors go upwards or downwards, so eat into the space above or below. If well planned or if you have the rackspace then it's not an issue, but something to bear in mind when purchasing rackmount power strips.

Hey Mr Genius (nog de beste wensen b.t.w.) I hope the trouble with your neighbour is fixed by now. I know so well how this kind of shit messes up your life. Question : I'm trying to mix music in my home studio now for several years and when I compare my mixes with proffesional mixes my mixes are always less "big". On my masterbuss I put an SSL compressor and a Limiter but still I miss that "body". Lately I put an MV2 on the masterbus and then I get closer to what I want to hear but in all the youtube tutorials that I watched I've never saw anyone go for this solution. Is an MV2 on the masterbus a bad idea? (I mix in the box) Thanks for all your videos they are great. Greetings
@AJOrpheo
@AJOrpheo Год назад
I think its good to remember that if it sounds good, its good lol. One thing to look out is that the MV2 applies dither (according to the marketing blurb). But I would also look into adding some sort of mix buss eq. A lot of engineers have a pultec or equivalent plugin/hardware on their masterbus which might be what youre hearing. If you have Noiseashe ruletec, I have had a great experience with those, otherwise try experimenting with Analog Obsession's EQ's. Or maybe even experiment with your own favorite EQs! also, just because it's not on youtube or a forum doesn't mean you shouldn't go for it! Finding little hacks that no one else is using is a great way to develop YOUR sound. just a thought :)
