You have all probably heard about the second-generation Intel Scalable processors, code name Cascade Lake, that offer more cores, support faster, and more memory. So, what does this mean for your 10th generation HP Z8 or Z6 G4 workstation with that first-generation Xeon Scalable processor? Can you upgrade it to accept this new processor? And, what kind of performance improvements are we talking about? In a word, yes. On that performance part we’ll get to that. First off, how do you tell the difference between the two processors. That’s easy enough. Just look for a number 2 after the first digit. That tells you it’s a second-generation CPU. I’m not sure why the manufacturers are not making more of a fuss…Watch the video!

Great video ! I got a HP Z8 G4 with a Xeon Silver 4116. What is the best option : Buy a second Xeon Silver 4116 or upgrade to a higher processor (If so whitch one should I consider)?

I'm not sure what you currently have installed on your system but I can say that additional CPU upgrades are not possible to the 3rd Gen intel Xeon Scalable processors, that is, if that's what you are asking/implying… Z-Turbo drives are now more available… Other GPUs are supported. Hi@@REIKOMICHLIG HP has updated their GPU list to include the RTX A6000 of which you can install 2x assuming you have the top-end PSU installed on your system. These are 300W GPUs and designed for workstations. I am not sure if the RTX 4080 is supported as that one has a 320W power draw, not to mention it is a consumer gaming card. You might want to stay away from that one unless HP specifically confirms compatibility. Im using Hp Z6G4 - Xeon Gold 6132 and going upgrade more RAM. Some one said it can be use 64GB ram bus 2666 per slot and they tested, is that true 🤔? Because im going buy 4 x 32GB ram 2666 but thinking to 2 x 64GB and confuse now.

HI there! Yes, it will take 64GB modules but they recommend 4x with a single or dual CPU's. That said, it will take a single memory module at 8GB and they usually do not list all configurations. I am also not sure if you have a single or dual CPUs but no matter. I would assume for "best" performance the recommendation is 4x 32GB modules. @@Itcreations-LA thank for your enthusiasm 👍i keep asking and that guy answered: 1st or 2nd gen of CPU doesn't important. Problem is Z6G4 can be use 64GB ram/slot. With 1st gen of Xeon Scalable is 2666hz, with 2nd gen cpu is 2933hz. In HP offical website i only see 64GB ecc 2933Hz/slot with 2nd Scalable Xeon cpu 😅 i think he said right, if can be use 64GB ram on xeon 62xx, 82xx sure can be use 64GB ram with 61xx, 81xx, different only Bus

@@HoangTuan1705 , Yes, the update to the 2nd gen Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs increased the supported memory speed from 2666MHz to 2933MHz.

@@Itcreations-LASir, could you please make clip review about the gear name "HP Z turbo quad drive" ? I heard they said that, install M2.nvme on that Card and use on HP Z6, Z8 can be make Write & Read speed to 10k, doesn't mind to gen3x4

Hello Is the HP Thunderbolt 3 PCIe 2-port I/O Card only compatible with the HP Z# G4 series of HP workstation? I own the HP z840 and I was wondering if the card will work on it.

@@Itcreations-LA NO it doesnt. HP Thunderbolt 3 PCIe 2-port I/O Card is only compatible with the new generation HP Z series. There is no header cable made to install on a HPZ840

Sorry for the crappy advice@@RayMurraywe have never gotten one of those cards to even try installing it. They released a SKU number about 9 months ago that you couldn't use to purchase the card because nobody had it. Ah, excuses, excuses… Clearly the real lesson here is don't assume anything. @@RayMurray Correct me if I'm wrong. This is weird, Protools Expert shows a video on their RU-vid channel of them installing a Gigabyte thunderbolt 3 pcie card on an old Mac Pro 5,1 with Windows 10 installed and it works. I mean if it works on that...why wouldn't it work on the HP z840 since it supports thunderbolt 2. By the way that thunderbolt 2 card that people use on the HP z840, first came out on the hp z820. Though, vendors won't tell you cuz they want to sell those HP z840. So my guess is that thunderbolt 3 card probably works on the z840 but unofficially, just as that thunderbolt 2 card works on the z840.You'd have to try it for yourself.

Hi M Nandu, i don't think you will have any problems… The only thing I have seen on some Dell systems after the upgrade is increased fan noise as the fans all run at top speeds even with a BIOS adjustment. Our Z8 G4 we upgraded is quiet as a mouse. Tell us how it goes, and thanks for watching!
