Tire UpGrade! Rubber tread added to your power wheels! DIY This is just what I had around the house stuff. Its been working great ! Thanks for watching and 👍🏼 my video!
Great job! Nice to see a moms doing this. I personally would use an adhesive the screws will rust and possible strip etc but hey there's always a learning curve. Gave me a great idea 👍, thanks
Thank you! I few of you guys have said that so I have anther tractor I am definitely going to try the Adhesive on this time. But I will say so far the old tiers and screws are holding up, my kids ride this thing all the time. The one tier does move a little once in a while seams more on cold days. For stuff I had around the house tho it was a score for mom! lol!!
Great to see another role model for the girls, I have supplied my daughter with tools as soon as she was able to use them. Now she has quite a nice collection of Bosch power tools
I used hex head self-tapping screws into the plastic and did not over torque them and they work great they're actually extra little knobbies. They've been on one of my power wheels for over a few years. If rust does accumulate on them as soon as they take it down the street they're shiny again
Wow I just picked up the craftsmans powerwheel car at a huge discount & was looking for a way to protect the tires & now saw this method. Thanks for the tip & now I gotta go find bike tires lol.
This is a great mod. I used a hammer style staple gun and its quicker and cheaper than screws. My kids use to get stuck on acorns and grass. Did this about about 2 years ago with doner bikes from the dump and they have held up really well and no issues with motors or gear box.
Yes these people miss the point of just using glue only. The screw heads could wear off and remain lodged in the tire. Which is an issue. Also using glue you can get an more even and stronger bond to the tire. Especially where the two ends meet together. You don’t want them overlapping causing a bump every time you roll over it.
Now that's what I'm talkin bout! Great repair/upgrade idea! Not to mention a mom with skills stepping up to save the day! Awesome job and great video :-) Exactly the info I needed :-) Thank you tons for your time and efforts :-D And just so happens I have an old unused K-mart mountain bike that needs new shoes.
You have no idea what it means to me to see you do this. I'm widowed with a little boy and I've learned some about tools but I had no idea how I was gonna do this and honestly I was scared to death.
Alw that why I kinda made this video because sometime we need to figure things out not done by a Professional but by a mom. And even with what everyone has said here. This 4 wheeler still running with the same tires on it. I think I added two screws over the two years. I have not replace the gearbox and mind you I bought this one used for 40 bucks a yard sale. As mom we solve more problems then we ever intended too.
Just wondering if it still survives... Information out there talks about the engineering of these toys and state the slippage of the tires is necessary to prevent burning the motors up due to the torque. After 2 years how has it held up?
I tried this out on a child’s bumper car and it worked great! The original wheels got virtually no traction and only worked in one room of the house (and even then it needed a push to get started). It was so frustrating! I followed your instructions, except I used adhesive instead of screws and it now works perfectly! I’m a 59 year old woman and I was so pleased with myself! Hahaha Thanks so much for sharing this!!!
I love this! That’s what ours was doing and every 3 mins the kids wanted a push. That’s when I started to dig around the garage to see what I had. At the time I was not thinking adhesive but I will say I also didn’t have any adhesive. That’s awesome that you made it happen. I’m proud of you too! I’m going to try the adhesive on the next ine
@@yemi0 It's a rubber glue I bought on Amazon for $10. After two years it's still going strong! I tried to post a link to it twice on here, but, for some reason, I can't. It's Sdintar brand "Instant Adhesive Rubber Special Adhesive" - I hope that helps!
jpjohnson07 glad to help! my kids are still riding this and I have not done anything else to it. The one wheel the tire moves a little but we just slide it back over little a inch of that when it moves.
It might be better to use strips of neoprene rubber. It'll give you additional traction just not to the extend of what these tires will which would reduce strain on the gear box. Also instead of putting a strip down the middle of the tire put one along the outside edge but glue it on. The current tire uses the inside section of the tire for contact with the road. By moving a strip to the outside, which slopes down, you increase the area of surface contact, increase the overall wheel base lowering its center of gravity, and provide additional traction without messing up the gearbox. That's the theory anyway so haven't tried it yet but it hinges on the idea that both the plastic center of the tire and the neoprene strip are both touching the road.
No but after a few years there is plastic tires lose your tread very easy specially if your kids ride them on concrete one summer you can wear that tire down.
I have a 24v li ion battery pack powering my sons power wheels and it hauls ass. My main concern is that there is absolutely no traction with that amount of power on these power wheels. Especially turning on concrete and the back tires are getting ate up. Now not only does my son ride it, but I ride it too and it's alot of fun. I want to do this but I do not want to destroy the gear box. I've ridden it up and down hills with no problems, still runs strong. I'd def like to do this but still a tad bit worried but I feel like with my riding I would have caused some type of damage to the gear box by now, so I doubt this added traction will harm much.
We modified the wheels on my son’s 24v and have noticed a significant drop in battery life. I’m thinking this is the problem, maybe we messed up the motor.
I thought I'm only guy with this idea I did lol main reason cuz I upgraded to 24v and it's too fast for just plastic wheels and now it's awsome u can even screw in few flat head screws through the tire to help it stay in place ...in my son"s jeep size 12 bike tires fit perfect
@@outdoorjunkie2483 hmmmm maybe. It would probably require a few applications and may not adhere that well. I think your approach might be the more pragmatic one
carlos gomez I mean you could put duct tape on but you’d have to reapply every time the kids take it out...no tape or rubber coating product will last very long compared to vulcanized rubber tires.
I haven't watched the video yet but how do you take a Hot Wheels ATV and make it work where you turn the steering wheel right and the wheel goes right not left it goes backwards
I was worried if screws would fall out once tread wears off. have you experienced it yet? we have powerwheel going fast pavement and treads are gone..thanks
The factory wiring is wired so that any residual power created from momentum, once foot pedal is released. Redirected back to the negative side of motor so it immediately stops motor.
i’m just curious, does your kid ride mainly on the grass or in the driveway and on concrete? and how often are they slamming from forward to reverse. Those put the biggest stress on the gearbox. Thanks for the insight
Ezra Norman they ride mostly in the grass. Just alittle on street once in awhile. Reverse yes they don’t stop all the time to go backwards but they have a lot of room so they don’t have to use that too often to be honest.
Yes, my kids striped the gearbox on their peg pegaro slamming from reverse to forward. I had to take the rubber off again. It worked a treat at first though.
toolman101476 Iv here that too but it’s been awhile now and our gears are still fine. It’s not likes it an over kill of traction here just enough to medic the bold tire problem
LOL Right! I asked my husband before I took them lol. He just went tubeless and had these laying around I believe there was a hole in the one too. This project was all about what I had laying around. Its been over a year now and they are still holding up great. One back tire is getting a little loose. But my 45 and 35 pound kids ride it together all the time still.
I know this vid is pretty old but jic anyone sees this and can answer me: I have an old power wheels JEEP. Do you think this mod is more effective for traction than buying new plastic wheels?
We have been doing great with it. I have done this on the 4wheeler and the John Deere turf tractor. It's has been 4 weeks now and it's still working great for us. My kids ride them almost every day. The gearboxes you can also replace out and with bad traction from your wheels slipping will cause damage to your gear box. So do this before your gear box get to the point that it is wearing and you will not have issue. But gear boxes don't last forever and neither do the battery's.
Michele Watson so we have one of them too, flip it over and see if you can trouble shoot where the drag is. Have someone turn the steering wheel as you’re looking at it. You may just need a Steering Linkage Assembly Part Number: J4394-9010 they are like $8
Yes I have had a few people say that too. This wheeler is about 8 Year’s old I bought it used. And my kids are 30 and 42 lb. So I’m thinking even the gear box is made better then some or maybe my light weight kids. But I did this a year ago and so far it’s still going well. I will replace this spring I want to try a adhesive next time.
Outdoor Junkie... i’m just curious, does your kid ride mainly on the grass or in the driveway and on concrete? and how often are they slamming from forward to reverse. Those put the biggest stress on the gearbox. Therefore I’ve been hesitant to put tires on mine I was thinking about strips of smooth rubber
The tires that come on the car are the tires it was designed to run. Changing tire diameter changes the gear ratio and can burn out motors. Ride-ons don't have a clutch in their gearboxes. They use the spinning tire as a clutch. Adding more traction with rubber or spikes removes the clutch and almost always overheats motors and breaks gears. Picking the right vehicle for your kid includes matching the tires it comes with to the terrain it will be used in. Monster Traction tires on the F150 are really bumpy on pavement. Mustang tires will not get traction easily in dirt. Tires are not interchangeable between vehicles so before you spend your time and money modifying make sure you've got the right foundation. You can't get no action if you ain't got no traction!
I recommend stainless steel. But it’s a good idea to use adhesive, and even glue the screw in so it doesn’t fall out and cause a flat tire for a real vehicle.
Another idea: Instead of destroying perfectly good 26 bike tires, can you think about small children's bike, like 12, 13, 14 15, 16 inches? One of these tires may fit the wheels nicely, so you do not need to cut and there will be no seam.
Saken Leon people adhesive?! Lol!! This even surprise me how well it worked tho. For just stuff I had on hand the kids are still riding it like this.. but so many great suggestions I’ll be trying them soon!!
Lol!! no no don’t put me in that category. They where hang up in the garage for quite a while. They where back ups for back up tires. One had a small tear from a rock OTB too.
