Jasmine, I'm a big fan and watch all of your videos. You're explanations and demonstrations are always top notch, but this particular videos was probably one of the best. Between showing very good camera angles that demonstrated how much the follow bends the path of the cue ball to how much an incremental adjustment of your tips position can change the path as well. I KNOW these things myself and have played the game for a long time, but seeing it demonstrated so nicely really makes an impact. Can watch your stroke and follow thru all day.

Love your vids. ❤ One little comment on this one: When you were showing kicks, starting with a rolling cb, you said follow shortens it up. I believe this only because you hit it much harder. Follow actually opens the angle (slightly) on kicks. As you showed backspin shortens it up even more, and that is true, but that actually means the follow opens it up. Canter ball would be in middle, between the two, at firm pace. A softer kick, played with max high action, would help to open the angle, as long as the cb still had some rotation after contacting the rail. Of course sidespin adds a whole different element to kicks, but we are just talking about the vertical axis. 😁

Came here to say exactly this. She is one of my favourites but you are dead right on the banking, it only shortened because of speed
@RekdReation
@RekdReation 13 дней назад
Same. You hit that other ball a LOT harder than the first one. Great video either way. Thanks.
@CueKefner
@CueKefner 11 дней назад
I was going to ask about that as well. Why does the force follow shot on the cueball shorten the line off the bank, but when she uses draw to get the object ball to bank with follow, it makes it go long?
@BigAlsBilliards
@BigAlsBilliards 11 дней назад
@@CueKefner I was only talking about the "Kick" portion of her vid. When you are banking balls, it's the opposite however. Playing low on cb will slightly widen the angle, while playing high will slightly narrow the angle. (as the opposite spin is imparted to the object ball) But for kicks, top will slightly open up the angle. Backspin narrows it. The only reason her kick narrow with top because of the weight of the shot, as opposed to her slow roll.
@CueKefner
@CueKefner 11 дней назад
@@BigAlsBilliardsIt seemed weird to me when I watched the video that the object ball with follow would go long on the bank, but the cue ball with follow went short. I thought they should react the same, or similar at least. The speed of the cue ball shortening the angle on the kickshot makes sense to me.

Wow, this video is richly packed with information. I'm probably gonna watch portions 30 times and it will (honestly) take me months to assimilate. I shoot pool 2 times a week with a dozen old timers who collectively have about 700 years of experience versus me: 6 years. I surprise them once in a while with what I have learned from you, Jasmin. Thank you from Oregon.

The pros usually play on tables with new cloth. And all of those fancy looking shots are easier. When you play on old cloth the balls act quite different. The same principles apply though.

My biggest problem is having to adapt to a new or different table. It takes such a long time. All of the spins are different, the speed is different, and the rails are different. I would love to know a way how to warm up before a tournament to have a better feel for the table when you have only a few minutes to practice. What sort of shots to practice.

I think you forgot a very important point: the distance from the cue ball to the object ball. This can dramatically change the required elevation on the cue ball in order to get the same result. Otherwise, an excellent video.
@lonniebiz
@lonniebiz 10 дней назад
I thought follow widens the angle off the rail, but you demonstrated this is not the case. I'm surprised about this and am going to be trying this next time at the table.

Maximum follow is actually just a rolling cue ball for any given cue ball speed. You can't physically make the cue ball spin faster than it is moving forward to any significant degree until it hits an object ball. The difference between a "force follow" and a normal follow is either a) the normal follow has not yet achieved natural roll or b) the force follow was hit harder.
