An incredible first flight onboard the Airbus A340 this year, flying with Swiss leisure carrier Edelweiss Air on their A340-313 HB-JMF on flight WK245 on Saturday the 18th of May 2024.
Along with fellow RU-vidr @DanielSander we leapt at the chance to fly on one of the quad jets on a relatively short flight (1hr and 28 minutes for our flight) between Mallorca and Zurich.
Seeing it was scheduled to operate on the 18th of May, we hastily cancelled anything we had planned, and I organized and itinerary which would allow us to fly on the A340, do a day filming in Zurich, and return to the UK by Sunday evening. So we left Prestwick Airport bound for Mallorca on Friday the 17th of May, departing Ayrshire at 21:27 and arriving in Mallorca at 01:03am.
We then spent a few hours inside the terminal trying to catch a few hours of precious sleep. Then at around 11am, we began boarding our A340 for our flight up to Switzerland. Once we arrived in Zurich at 13:23pm we then set off to do some planespotting before boarding our easyJet flight to London Gatwick and departing at 22:06 where we finally made it to our Travelodge to get some sleep.

Something I can only describe as absolutely phenomenal. The crew were so helpful and kind. When we asked as to the possibility of upgrading our seats before departure, our flight attendant informed us this would not be possible due to the weight and balance of the aircraft. However, after we departed she came back to our seat and asked if I would still like to move to the front of the aircraft with a view overlooking the wing (to which I jumped at the opportunity).
The onboard service was outstanding with a sandwich, snack and drink served (hot & cold drinks, orange juice and tea for me) as well as a small cake.
After landing the pilots warmly welcomed us into the flight deck, seeing we were keen enthusiasts which was greatly appreciated.
This will likely be the one and only time I get to fly on one of these big birds, and I am so pleased I had the opportunity to.
