That stem "sleeve" is meant to allow you to adjust the stem angle, by rotating the sleeve (as well as flipping the stem upside down). It is an easy and cheap way to experiment with multiple stem angles on a new build, and after you find what suits, you can then commit to a more "long term" stem.
I hope she realizes how much lucky she is, having such a great uncle gifting things without conditions, and i think he wont even berate her if she gets bad grades, well americans dont insult children to the core for having bad grades right?
Nice build. I’m sure she loved it. Yep, just got finished building up a 1987 Bianchi frame. First thing I did after spreading the dropouts was take it to the bike shop to get the dropouts and derailleur hanger aligned. Saves all kinds of potential problems later.
That’s Just Simply Superb what you did for your Niece and the Upgrade was a pleasure to watch. I’m still Rocking a Carrera Vengeance🙈 but have always wanted a nice Marin so if you want to Spread the Love to a new Subscriber in the Northeast I would happily buy it🙏 Awesome Job by the way 🙏👍
I honestly think this video did so good because of the bright exciting thumbnail colors. I just clicked on it automatically even tho I wasn’t even sure if I would watch that type of bike content. Turned out I loved it but that says something for thumbnails
Nice build! I would have replaced the BB as well for a Hollowtech II to ensure future compatibility with any upgrade to the crankset. In any case, a great gift!
I've come across shims and spacers on headsets and seat posts in the past but never like that one! It's as if you can move it around to change the stem angle! Probably very handy for fine tuning. And that cassette lock ring looks like not only too long but the wrong thread pitch too.
1x for a child is always best way to go avoid unnecessary confusion, my brothers couldn't work out how to properly choose a gear on my 3x7 1998 gt timberline but helping them and then them getting their own bikes (both have 2x8 carrera vengeance) they understand it very well
One of my bikes has a Claris 3x8 group. Honestly, I have been riding bikes for 40+ years and I am sure I could still do a better job of learning how to shift it.
Why the gear issue. It could also be the chain being to short as when it sits in the higher gear the rear mech is pointing to far forward. Love the colour scheme you chose as well I bet she will love it.
Hi, all in all nice build, hope she enjoys it, I just wanted to let you know that the balony cassette you bought is not very good, I own one and I hate it, the gear range is wonky, especially between sixth and seventh, just wanted to let you know, but I really like the rest of the build, good job and hope your niece likes it.
for the stem to preload the steerer tube would have to be below the shim and the shim was below the top of the stem. did the steerer tube even make it to the top bolt of the stem? even a top spacer delete on a normal set up is not great practice since it requires the steerer tube to be below the top of the stem to make clearance for the top cap, but ppl do it for a cleaner look, on this it seems really sketchy.
The steerer tube IS below the internal shim. That’s why it is preloaded correctly. The top cap sits inside this stem as I showed so you can’t run a top spacer because it doesn’t fit, as I showed.
@@MonkeyShred i said all that and you said what you just said again. the problem is the steerer tube being so low may even not reach the top clamp bolt of the stem which is a concern. also it wouldnt be hard to find a smaller spacer...
At 12.25 there looks to be a gap between the locknut and the cone, was that loose like the front wheel? Or is there a small washer between them. Nice build hopefully you and your niece can hulk smash some trails together 😅
@@xiangchenye5034 I’m not misleading anyone. Aluminium isn’t as malleable as steel. Correct. A hanger can still be corrected though as I clearly demonstrated. Even Park Tool say you can bend a hanger back safely. If it’s badly bent then sure, replace it. The more it’s bent the weaker it becomes. A slight correction is fine.
Mate there's a bloke commented on one of the other videos saying the workbench vice is shit, and sometimes there are hairs stuck to components! I mean wtf?! 😂😂
