When I bought my XPS 7100 years ago, I got a new power supply and better video card at the same time, and never even plugged it in until I had them installed. I've had a few pcs since then but that one still runs fine when I pull it out of the closet.
Missleboy did this card work plug and play or did you have to upgrade CPU bios or the GPU bios? I tried a sapphire nitro rx580 and it did not work. Black screen.
I can feel your pain with the psu lol. I upgraded my dell xps 8300. it looks the exact same as yours but It's white. It was next to impossible to install it but I got it in the end. Good job and keep it up!
How did you do it. I am trying to update my DPS 8300 with AMD5450. I het no display and it doesn’t require extra power. I tried all the tricks out there but no luck. I just get blank screen
wille06viking did you do it in safe mode? I did that but no luck. I bought this based DELL recommended parts upgrade. Didn’t want take any risk but still have no success
I guess since the power supply was new, you had an available 8-pin PCI cable to plug direct into the gpu, I’m using an old XPS power supply, is an 8pin pci /Molex adapter a do-able thing? I’m trying to transform chicken shit into chicken salad, using and old first gen quad core XPS, and putting a xfx 570 gpu in it. Any advise?
I got a 990 mt optiplex and a gigabyte rx480 g1 it was Landing right on top of the ram tabs and on top of where the hard drive and disk drive connect to the mb you can buy a thing that plugs into the gpu slot and turns into a cable and then leads to another slot to plug it in will be scary cause the graphics card will be completely loose in the case I’ll have to figure something out... also upgraded to a 500w power supply

@@Diemos879 it has a decently new graphics in it actually don't know exactly but it's an ati radeon, definitely going to add an SSD and a new HDD are there problems with CPU compatibility tho? Don't want to buy a new CPU and have it not work
@@armielplays917 So, I don't know if you still need it, especially since you asked a year ago, but I found this guy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v6PZwtuiL70.html. Basically you have to press the tab of the easy one in, so the box is over the lip. Then on the opposite side, push the box up towards you so it is all wobbly. Then press the other tab with the metal pipe underneath. I had to shake it back and fourth and pull on the wires to shimmy it out. It literally took me over 2 hours of trying and watching videos, but I finally got it. (All the videos and manuals said to slide, that did not work for me!) Don't use your fingers, use a screw driver to press the tabs down. My fingers are supper sore from trying, but I'm actually using my computer now with the new power supply. Finally!!
the graphics card inside my 8100 had 4gb of memory i bought it used as a second pc i have no idea about older specs i built a pc i only know abt 5000 series amd gpus and 1000 series up for invidia idk much bout anything else idk what theyre capable of
I got the CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Desktop Memory Model CMK16GX4M2A2133C13R from newegg. Had no problems at all. Installation was a breeze!

If you have a twin fan one like a XS version 6gb or a ventus model one should fit pretty snug they require a 6+2 pin connector though, you probably have to upgrade the power supply to a 550 or 650 Watt power supply but 600 should do just fine.
i've just put a gtx 670 into a dell 7100 and the 460w power supply seems to be fine, there was even two spare 6 pin connectors for it (Nvidia recommends at least 500w but cpu is only 95w etc so not as power hungry as a newer machine)
That’s a tight fit but it will definitely fit, if you have tools to cut out a square piece of metal on the panel to the right of the case, it should fit perfectly.
True but people have budgets, and rarely will you find a fully modular 650 watt power supply. Since his Power Supply is bronze rated it’s probably semi modular, which means you can plug in connectors you require, like the 24 Pin Mobo 4 pin CPU SATA 6+2 Pin connector That’s all you would need unless you have and extra storage
