Here i show how to convert/upgrade the lighting on a Hornby DC powered HST Class 43 power & dummy car from an incandescent bulb to LED.
This covert/upgrade improves the illumination of the lighting and also allows for red tail lights at the rear of the set.
These lighting boards are supplied by Black Cat Technology - ebay.eu/2kHs7aw
These lighting boards offer an ideal way to upgrade the lights on your Hornby HST's. They are suitable for both DC systems and those which have been upgraded to DCC. They offer automatic switching between Red and White light based on the direction of travel.
There are two versions, 'Pure White' uses standard white LED's to give a 'modern' look. The version using 'warm white' LED's gives an older-style more yellow-white light.

I had a terrible experience with the boards, both burnt out and started smoking. Nothing different about what I did Vs this how to. black cat told me not to do it this way and to solder them... They sent me replacements but I'm yet to give it another go.

Brilliant instructional video. Just a couple of questions though: 1. I'm assuming that the two wires can also be soldered directly to the board? 2. I see that you bypassed the actual diode. Could the diode be removed altogether?

Hi Robert, Thank You. A1: Yes the wires could simply be soldered directly to the board. I only left the pegs on to help hold the board in place. A2: Yes, the diode could be removed altogether. i bypassed it just incase i wanted to revert back to original state in the future.
