Though the factory EFI functioned well, there is no room for improvement due to the dire simplicity of the stock ECU. That all changes with Megasquirt. Not only will I be able to tune the system to optimize the engines performance in its current state, but it enables me to reliably upgrade the engine with a turbo, or nitrous if I wanted to.

So cool of you to be making these videos man! I have an '82 280ZX that I would eventually like to drop a Stage 4 cam in. I would like to get it dyno tuned at 91 octane with the cam upgrade. Do you know if the stock ECU can handle that or would I need to buy a better ECU like MegaSquirt to get it tuned?

Yeah the stock ECU can't be tuned as its way too simple. Megasquirt is the best bet if you want to be able to squeeze as much power and drive ability out of a built engine as you can.

@@HooliganGarage-650 Dang, well that's disappointing. By the time I get everything in place needed to have it running properly with a Stage 4 cam I'll have spent about 3 grand (Canadian! If I was doing a full engine build I can totally see the value of getting a Megasquirt kit, but for 50-60hp, I think I'll stick to my guns.

When you installed the megasquirt wiring harness, did you remove the stock relay boxes that connect to the battery? Idk if yours was setup the same way as mine. But I had relays mounted right next to the battery. One of them was labeled "IGN". Did you take these out and replace with ms2 relays, or did you keep it and the relays for the megasquirt were just in addition to those?

Its optional with the kit, however I decided not to get a harness with an IACV plugin. I might upgrade to one in the future.

I’m currently installing MS3 on my zxt build. I could sure use that install pdf file!!! Mega squirt dosnt really give you good wiering diagrams.

I think I still have the PDF saved somewhere. However, since this kit came with a pre wired harness it only tells you what plugs in where, not how to wire it up.

I've had a couple dirt bikes I did quick flips on. Problem is I don't have a place to legally ride one within a 4 hour drive, and same with ATV's. I do have a CB550F that I'm currently trying to get back on the road though.
