UPMC Double Lung Transplant Patient First in U.S. to Use Hemolung Device (revised) 

After suffering from cystic fibrosis and rejecting his first double lung transplant, Jon Sacker of Moore, Oklahoma, came to UPMC as a last resort. UPMC clinicians were granted emergency use of the Hemolung device to remove excess carbon dioxide from Jon's body, making him healthy enough for a second double lung transplant. Jon's wife, Sallie, explain his treatment. Today, Jon is on the road to recovery thanks to the care he received at UPMC.
