That's called dissonance, there are two easy ways of achieving it. First way, play one note on one string (Usually one of the higher strings) and then the half step above or below it on an adjacent string, usually leaving your hand stretched three or four frets. Other way is to keep one root note and then bend the next string up so the destination of the bend is a half step adjacent. This is called a "unison bend" or "scream." On screams, bend slightly over a half step for a grittier sound.
