Muscle weakness in UMN and LMN lesion can occur either due to injury to motor cortex, internal capsule , brainstem or spinal cord. LMN lesion can also occur with injury to peripheral nerve and muscles. This video explains how to identify the site of lesion in case of muscle weakness in upper motor neuron and lower motor neuron lesion.

@@PhysiologyOpen please i wanna ask you about ataxia : when there is a lesion of cerebellar hemispheres patient will get limb ataxia , but there is not truncal ataxia since vermis is intact , so in this case of limb ataxia can patient walk normally since he has dysmetria and dysdiadokinesia of lower limbs ?? And also about hypotonia : if a patient have lower limb hypotonia can he walk and move his legs ?! I hope you clarify this to me , and thanks in advance 🙏
@PhysiologyOpen
@PhysiologyOpen Год назад
No - any hypotonia and ataxia will affect movement

Mam if u could explain if the lesion is in anterior horn cell will not it affect both upper n lower motor leison..
@PhysiologyOpen
@PhysiologyOpen 3 года назад
Logically you are right but if at the level of the lesion anterior horn cell is affected, then final common pathway is affected ..hence we will get features of LMN lesion
@riteshchaurasia4953
@riteshchaurasia4953 3 года назад
Does spinal cord injury will affect both upper n lower motor neuron..?
@PhysiologyOpen
@PhysiologyOpen 3 года назад
Yes at the level of the lesion...lmn is injured and descending umn fivers are also affected
