Would a kneeling thwart be comfortable for solo padding? I’m not doing rapids just lakes

You definitely have more control of the hull while kneeling as opposed to sitting. And yes, using a kneeling thwart just makes it considerably more comfortable while providing a position to paddle from closer to the center of the canoe.
