I like no. 3. The chromatic descent of the highest note adds just the right amount of consonance to give the phrase a more definitive sense of closure.
Perfection as always. Suggestions for series title: 1) An exercise for the RU-vidr 2) Music behind the scenes 3) Input from June 4) Shitpost of the week 5) Let’s edit/compose/score together! 6) iFixU
Love these ideas!! I think 3's my fav: I love that upper-voice fall / lower-voice rise with that sorta F-sharpy chord leading the charge for the resolution. The previous Bb to the F#/Gb is so satisfying
Wow! Amazing content as always! It's pretty awesome how June brings theirs (June & Jacob's) super-complex and dissonant kind of chords to our touch, we're mere mortals, of course. I'm super excited for this new series and I'm thinking right now about what my submissions will be! Thank you, June!
June I just found your channel. I've been searching for you and jacob all my life ! It's not jazz it's the new aquarian age of harmony ! and it flows like water😁
8 & 9 bro I’m gonna study your transcription of don’t you worry bout a thing because I didn’t realise you could tear it up with 5/8 and 7/8 meter and for it to sound so damn groovy
Will you be doing just videos for this series, or maybe an unscripted thing once in a while? Like a live session or possibly Q&A? Can't wait for the next video either way. This has been super helpful to me already! 👍🎹🎹 Love your style of teaching June man. Never get tired of listening Jacob Collier and you talk about harmony!
This is the lesson summed up: 1. Bass motion has to remain the same as the original progression 2. You can put whatever you want in the upper structure as long as you follow rule No.1 but the weirder/spicier it is, the better 3. You have to resolve the leading tone of each substitution a semitone up or down
Either 3 or 10. 10 sounds more "classic jazz" than the others and I dunno why..... I second "Together We Score," and would love some more material on upper subs.
