One of my teachers used to put out a box at lunch near the garbage cans for people to put un-opened foods/drinks/fruits that werent eaten to take back to his class so anyone who was still hungry (whether it was a student of his or just some hungry kid in the school) could have something more to eat. After he had been doing it for years, all of a sudden one of the lunch ladies told him it was "illegal" to take school food out of the lunchroom and that it was technically stealing. So instead of all of this food that was still in perfect condition getting used up, it now just gets thrown away. Great job america.
ashleytube thats horrible... i renember a long time ago there was a box like that so kids who forgot to bring a snack or forgot to bring lunch could have something to eat.
yeah I know what you mean I remember I bought a mini water bottle for 60 cents in elementary school and a lunch lady said I couldn't take it back class and I never even opened the water. Even this year I remember I picked this perfect banana for breakfast at school and I dropped it and I still wanted regardless of whether I dropped it or not and the lunch lady picked it up and said that I couldn't have it.
Do they seriously think that giving the healthy food "cool" names is going to do anything? That's been done and its tacky and stupid, just shows how incompetent some people are
Argon ikr?!?? I always liked the salad and chicken wraps at my school it always filled me up and dont tell meh that its disgusting i miss the lunch sooo much i wish i can have that again but im out of school and my mom cooks really disgusting food 🤢🤮🤮
Except that one thing is good at my home, that i eat every fruit and vegetable raw. Eating raw is healthy. Raw carrots are very healthy to consume than cooked carrots.
When I saw that I was like "What are these kids, 4 year olds?" Most of that food just looks nasty anyway - I wouldn't feed it to a dog, nevermind a child.
Our two boys 7th and 11th grades come home starving every day. They like to eat healthy but the portions are to small. So when they hit the house its straight to the kitchen.
GUESS WHAT?! Like I would order cheese pizza every friday. I did order lunch, but someone changed the paper and the lunch lady said "you didn't order!" and the lunch lady laughed with a teacher and that teacher said "they should be old enough to be responsible 🤣". THE LUNCH LADY SHOULD'VE GUESSED MY ORDER TO MAKE AN INFERENCE!
my school has a free and reduced lunch program. you need financial requirements to qualify, I’m lucky enough not to have to be forced to eat the school’s free and reduced lunches, and be able to bring my own lunch with content I know of.
+James Harrington Vegetables don't need seasoning. If children are given healthy meals at home, they'll develop a taste for healthy food. Give them junk, they'll crave junk.
+James Harrington Totally. Vegetables are my favorite food group, but if you just steam broccoli under a metal lid for 8 hours until it's soggy and plop it on a plate, kids aren't going to eat it. It's also going to reinforce the idea that veggies are gross, setting them up for a lifetime of health problems (however short that lifetime may be. Instead of having a piece of fruit, some unseasoned broccoli, and some dry chicken or tofu, you could easily make a decent stir-fry from all of them, which is they sort of thing which is actually done in many other countries. They're essentially serving kids separated ingredients from a potential meal.
Anton Paulson i dont like eating cooked carrots because most of the vitamins and very important sources are taken away. It’s best to eat raw carrots and not carrots on a bag
I remember when they made the switch to healthy food. Suddenly the cheese in the nachos turned into plastic, the sausages we weird tasting and strangely colored, and they got rid of the cereal bags.
I don't understand why they maligned meats and cheese. Meats, cheese, dairy and egg are the healthiest food there is and the only foods that fill you up and that's exactly what they tried to minimize. Like you said, they switched the cheese sauce, into something that was imitation cheese, and not real dairy cheese.
Karlton est Even for lactose intolerant people, there’s still cheddar and parmesan that have a small enough amount of lactose that they can process (less than .5 grams)
Thats what everyone wants. Scenario Lunch Lady: Ok, what would you like? Gordon: Damn, I guess I'll get the chicken nuggets since that looks the least like garbage. Mutters* Bloody hell. (Gordon sits a table) Gordon: My god is this what kids fu**in' eat? Id rather have sand than what they're eating. (Camera points towards children, multiple bleeps occur. Stop swearing kids.)
In my highschool, the foods served in the cafeteria are cooked by the culinary class with the supervision of 5 chefs (we make the food fresh daily) . I took culinary for 1 year and got to really experience cooking on an industrial level. You would think that it might be unsanitary since students are making them but that's not true. Far from true! Because before we even stepped into the kitchen we spent a whole month studying food borne illnesses & pathogens associated with food handling and we take a test (on which we need 80%+ to pass/work in kitchen). Plus we are required to wear a chef jacket, apron, hair net and a hat! The chefs are really strict on that so no hair gets in any of the foods. Anyways we are under the supervision of the chefs (the menus are created by them so the food is gooood!!) . I'm glad that our school serves fresh, healthy food :)
Boone No, I wouldn't. I know what they taste like. I have a very selective palate. And that palate says if it's fruit, it has to be sweet, and I genuinely don't like the taste of vegetable, except potato (and other vegetables, but only circumstamcially)
Did anyone else's school have places to put fruit they didn't eat in a tray for others to eat? I found so many fruits in school, moldy on the inside, dirty and damaged on the outside, and just disgusting fruit that's been on others trays being served the next day. That's disgusting!
In my school the reason as to why I don’t get fruits or veggies is because they’re usually rotten, bruised or they’re simply not ready to be eaten. They give us very little on top of that. They give us three strawberry halves as an option. Isn’t that ridiculous?
My breakfast is usually Toast with French style scrambled eggs and 2 strips of bacon. My lunch is usually a burger with fries and milk Dinner is spaghetti with meatballs and garlic bread. School food... Snack/breakfast is yogurt, pbj sandwich (processed) Lunch- burger with cheap tasting beef and crappy sides, such as cold and bland potato salad, some fruit that isn't even ripe or chili. The quality of school food needs to be improved honestly. Food should taste delicious, not bland, processed or bitter. Food should be served with fresh ingredients, and flavor.
I remembered that when I visited Japan, students in elementary, middle, and high school all enjoyed healthy, nutritious, well-cooked school lunch. To them, school lunch is like the best meal in a day. You don't see any Japanese school children go obese or starve. So why can't we do that in America? Kids don't like fruits or veggie, why don't we make them into something that's delicious, like a stir-fry meat-veggie, fish-veggie soup, or veggie filled beef burger? All we do is forcing kids to eat vegetables. And let's be honest: most kids don't like eating veggies by itself.
yea same here i went to TWO different schools in TWO DIFFERENT STATES both middle and high school lunches were gross but i STILL EAT healthy food and sometime i treat myself with something sweet like a shake or something(if i have the money)
@@LIVEMETRIX187 we have disgusting chicken nuggets, our chicken nuggets are so soggy and half the time there's no barbeque sauce, and ketchup. Also our pizza's cheese spread on the crust, making it so cheesy, and not in the good way.
I'm 6 foot tall and 220 pounds. after school I go to football practice for 3 hours where I lift, run, hit, and of course practice plays. I often find my stomach growling and feeling as if i don't have enough energy to get through practice. tell me how 4 nuggets with some salad and a bag of chips are supposed to fill me up at 6'0, 225, and give me enough energy to get through practice
When I was in high school, I had a choice and could choose to get more if I paid more. Also, they used to give lots of food in the basic cafeteria (they didn't have the calorie restrictions). Then, they would have a separate salad buffet, where I would load up the lettuce, with plenty of cheese, turkey, bacon pieces and lots of ranch sauce all over it and you had to pay like $3 for a full bowl, but still, it would fill you up.
Dreamswitch, I remember they also used to serve Pizza Hut Pizza, and you could buy a fresh pizza slice for $1.25, or yesterday's pizza for $0.75. Also, I remember that even the regular school lunch used to give you a ton of food. Like, sometimes they'd put huge portions. Like a big blob of lasagna, veggies, a fruit and a milk carton. Honestly, they need to stop counting calories for kids. Teenagers need lots of food for energy. It was a big high school, so it was like a mall court. Also, from what I understand, private schools, get buffets with 5-star quality foods that changes everyday. Why can't they do that in regular high schools, right?
oof, im a 5'3 128 pound girl that spends her day drawing, writing, and singing and dancing to musicals and I dont think a small cup of apple sauce, a tiny pizza, and a carton of expired milk is gonna fill me up.
PedalToTheFloor yes it is too small, but if you’re thinking with your belly all day “I’m so hungry” then you’re likely to scarf down everything you can when you get home and have a calorie surplus instead, undoing any good done by going hungry all day
Too many people are counting calories and not enough people counting chemicals. People should eat real foods freshly grown and prepared with quality taste. Food that is actually food, not something that looks like a microwave science experiment.
LunaTwi01 Fuck school lunches. Once I finally the hunting license of my state, rather than my previous state of residence, I'm gonna start hunting, and making my own lunches, which will actually have some taste to them
Campers Not that hard to marinate backstrap, ribs, etc, in hickory sauce, and smoke it into jerky, steak, burgers, ribs, etc. Or best yet, deer heart tacos. Plus, I'm great at cooking, despite my lack of expirience in my own kitchen
It’s not like we want to waste food! But when you’re given such pore quality food what else are we supposed to do? From elementary school and up into high school the lunches have only gotten worse! I no longer eat school lunch because of all of the bad experiences I’ve had with it.... • Moldy fruits •Fruits with bugs in them •Vegetables that we’re turned into mush •Burnt almost charred chicken •Hamburgers and chicken sandwiches with bones in them •Stale bread •Cold almost frozen beans •Spoiled milk •Scrambled eggs that weren’t cooked enough and runny •Finding hair in soups •Salads with old and moldy lettuce And more There were even kids that got food poisoning and the district did nothing about it!!! So maybe students will stop wasting food when the schools start providing food that is actually fit for the consumption of humans and not pigs!
Once a year in my school we have this thing called the barbecue lunch. Last year they had watermelon and they had a lot left over. For the next 3 weeks they didn’t throw it away, they gave it to the students. 3 WEEK OLD WATERMELON.
Back in 1st 2nd and somewhat 3rd grade school lunches where amazing but then some of our best lunches got replaced by legit dog shit and even now in high school they keep changing the lunches a lot the crispy chicken burger that we used to have got changed to a mushy chicken burger almost like it’s been boiled and everything that is optimal to buy either it’s fat free or reduced fat like damn I bet there even trying to find a way to get water into the negative calories or sum shit.
Maybe the Senators who passed this legislation to practice what they preach. Let's see these $1,000 a plate eaters can survive on a $3 lunch room meal.
Actually in New York you have to pay $1.50 for lunch, if you parents make low income. So we eat $1.50 foods. I could get better food from a fast food place with $1.50
I'd like to see someone serve our politicians for lunch the exact same lunches as the kids eat and have them eat it every day for a month. Besides, the problem isn't the nutritional content, its the horrendous quality! That's the reason all the food gets thrown away every day, kids would rather starve than eat something that tastes so wrong. Yes, even the fruits and veggies are such poor quality that no one will eat them! The apples were extremely bruised and somehow excessively dry, the bananas were impossible to open and not yet ripe, the salads were contained with an adhesive plastic/tape which would seep into the lettuce and contaminate it. The only dressing to go with the salad was some mysterious substance labeled "ranch dressing" which tasted like mayonnaise. (I think it was a "healthier" miracle whip knock-off) I would hardly consider myself a picky eater, yet even I used to throw my meals away. I always tried to eat it, and felt nauseated after a bite or two.
crazitaco The lunch ladies at my school made "homemade ranch dressing" which is some nasty knock off. Disgusting. And it's labeled Hidden Valley Ranch! It's "homemade lunch lady ranch"
piggy_ We had these tubs of ranch at school that was labeled hidden valley. I opened it and noticed the "ranch" wiggle around. I then tipped it upside down and to my surprise it didn't come out of the container. No amount of force would make it come out. Ranch shouldn't do that...
"i'd like to see the look on our politicians faces as they are forced to eat salad. it will be the ultimate fuck you in my opinion. no i have never eaten a salad or a vegetable in my life, i only eat hotpockets and dorritos" -t. American
I’m currently 16 years old and I’ve seen the changes. In grade school, I remember eating the school lunch as they had spaghetti, nachos, baked chicken, (the good) pizza, etc. I usually now only eat the salad and go on with my day before munching on a whole bunch of snacks in class. Plus I’m like 100 pounds so they should bring the good food back and make me gain weight...please.
I know u commented this over 4 years ago but i still got something to say. If theres not a big huge meal ready when i get home theres gonna be one less family sized bag of potatoe chips
I know u commented this over 4 years ago but i still got something to say. If theres not a big huge meal ready when i get home theres gonna be one less family sized bag of potatoe chips
Kids used to have 1-2 hours of physical exercise a day at school, now your lucky if you get 30 minutes. They are herded from class room to class room in order to "pass" common core. So its no wonder that they are having weight problems latter in life.
Samus Aran My school has a compost bin but they obviously don’t care about anything. Anything that goes in the recycle bin goes to the same area the trash goes
Chick fil a HOLY SH*T that is awesome but then those greedy government Buttheads that eat gold think every one is getting fat those people are more diet bound than Kim Kardashian gives children stupid names
+Durrplant Impersonator They don't "think" everyone is getting fat, everyone IS getting fat. Perhaps because you're used to seeing overweight people around you you think it's normal? Over 2/3rds of the country are overweight.
YOU USED TO GET FREAKIN' CHICKFILA!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!THATS AWESOME COMPARED TO MY SCHOOL FOODS!?!?!?!?!?!?BDUXHEICUDJEDKHCIXNEIXNUXNEKXNXINSSMXJXIXI!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!?!???!?!?!!?!?!!(&3!:$;6$/0-'xnjfhrksmqoxm👏😾😯👌🏽😓😽😲👽👎
+Ca Br But not all of them are getting fat from eating unhealthy foods. It's also from eating too much and sitting down and doing nothing during their lives.I do the exact same thing, but i'm just surprisingly not fat.I even eat more than some fat people in the world.Especially when i'm starving. But I still get up to fo things like visiting my grandmother running just for the fun of it or some sit-ups just for the fun of it or whatever else I do.
Calorie constriction for growing kids, talk about dumb. Calories are not the problem, the problem is the nutritional in the food. Calories are just energy, and kids need that energy to go through school. If you remove the calories, you remove the energy for kids to learn and such, so long as the food is healthy, they should be allowed to eat what they need. More than that though, you need to season your bloody food! provide sauce, curry powder, Cayenne sauce, mix vegetables up, create your own herb butter- but no matter what you do, you do have to make it taste good. If kids can't enjoy the meal, only the desperately hungry will eat it. Further more, I heard kids in America are actually not allowed to trade food or share, and that if they can not pay for the meal, the food is thrown away right in front of them. This seems like a even bigger deal because it restricts empathy, lets poor kids suffer, and if you can't trade things, of course you'll throw it out. for bugger sake- nothing about this lunch program is working.
@@juliabradley2290 lol, they always make that dumbass allergy excuse. usually kids trade with people that they know, and allergies in your friends are pretty fucking obvious if they blatantly decline food you have tried to trade with them in the past.
Exactly, it makes me want to A. Get even more angry bc they're tricking me into eating things I don't like and B. Make me want to throw it away. Also, what is wrong with seasoning lunches to give students something with taste.
2:46 very, very true for the dairy products. A few weeks ago I spilled some chocolate milk on a pretty lightly colored shirt and I took the tiny, almost useless napkin and wiped it off in one try and it came off like water. No stain removal or anything. The milk went from normal, to low fat, to zero fat. It tastes horrible. So does the cheese that you can separate into strings. It almost has no taste.
They didn't recognize how food in public schools isn't held to health code standards. When I was in high school, we were served things that were rotten, out of date, and moldy. Our food notoriously made kids sick. It isn't right.
My teacher was cool she knew what we were eating and she didn't like it either so every week or two she'd take random children from her class and she'd give us chips and crackers i know I know it's unhealthy but she didn't do it often but at least we ate something she was one of greatest teachers I had👍🏽
My school tried to enforce a rule that we had to take a fruit or vegetable and eat the whole thing or we would have to sit there the lunch ladies knew this would not go down well and told us that we didnt have to eat it we just had to take one
I'm actually glad i don't eat the school food at my school. I had it only once during my high school years and it was disgusting and tasteless. and what's crazy is that my school has the money, but they don't use it for stuff that us students DO need. Like great school lunch for example
Children are being forced to go hungry because parents don't have the money to buy their lunches. This is why I support a nation wide Free lunch program for ALL students K-12. We pay billions of dollars for free K-12 education but not for their lunches. The cost of a student lunch is already heavily supplemented by our taxes, why not go the rest of the way. This way no one goes hungry because they can't afford it or their parents are to prideful to put them on the free lunch programs.
This is not a kid problem---this is a Western problem. For the last 30+ years, kids are allowed to eat junk food practically from the time they're weaned. In addition to the huge portions of meals over here, they are laced will all the things that work on our brains to give immediate pleasure: salt, sugar, bad fats and simple carbs. If you've eaten like that for 15 years, trying to get a kid off of this addictive diet is no different than dealing with a drug addict. Of COURSE they're going to complain they don't like the new menu; their brains are all screaming "where's my pleasure food?!" While I agree that the schools should be doing more to make the fruits and veggies more appealing, the buck should start and stop with the parents.
+Mary No doubt. It's like weening someone off drugs, and in terms of brain chemistry, it might as well be. We had DARE in the 80's, which wasn't necessarily accurate. But the sort of people who vote to keep all drugs outside of alcohol and tobacco illegal, are the same ones to whine about not letting kids eat junk food. They're all for personal freedom, as long as it fits their narrow definition of the concept.
Do you just blindly accept what is put in front of you? Maybe trust uh science over your elected officials. Since I do research before I open my mouth I will link an article for ya from Scientific American www.scientificamerican.com/article/its-time-to-end-the-war-on-salt/
Okay, you eat school lunch every single day, it is not even healthy food. In fact it is rotten, bruised, and everything on the tray is brown, BTW we have to choice between 6 oz of 1% milk, or 4 oz of fruit juice, AND YOU HAVE TO PAY A EXTRA $1 IF YOU WANT WATER WTF.
They are, by no means, delicious. The pizzas here taste like cardboard, the chicken nuggets and pretzels are hard as a rock. And how is it nutritious when ALL THE FOOD IS SHIPPED FROZEN TO THE SCHOOLS? Doesn't help that the highschoolers left overs gets shipped down to the middle school for them to eat the next week, then from middle school to elementary school
Michelle Rekuc I agree, a lot of is not good food at all. Preparing and teaching your kids to eat good quality food begins with the parents, but it should also be carried over to the school lunch menus too. Most kids won't eat plain broccoli, but make it into a delicious soup with a bit of cheddar cheese on top and I'm pretty sure a lot more kids would eat it. Pizza shouldn't taste like cardboard, and it can also be healthy AND delicious. I make my own homemade pizza with crushed tomatoes, a bit of 4-cheese blend, carmelized onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, roasted red peppers and green olives. Taste fantastic and there's no reason why the schools shouldn't be able to do the same.
We're actually very lucky we have the opportunity to actually have government paid food transported to schools. Some kids around the world have nothing to eat. They'd wish to have what we throw away.
When I was in high school, almost every day I opened my milk to find mold. The fruit we got was not ripe, it was hard and sour because it was not ready to eat yet. The portions were ridiculously small, and the hot food served? 99% of the time it was cold. The salads we got were old and rotting. So many kids went hungry.
My problem is that the lunch ladies dont k bbn is how to FREAKING cook I mean like the chicken is either pink or hard as a rock but the thing they do know how to cook is sausage and biscuit every mornin for breakfast and they have a car near the cafeteria and one in that grades hallway so most people get two
They say "healthy" food at schools are you joking the ground beef in my house has so much grease and my chicken nuggets have no meat just bread and the Chicken is always red and the fruits that are rotten I have gotten food poisoning cause of school lunch trust me I'm healthy af I love healthy food and hate unhealthy food but these grown ups need to understand it's not cause it's healthy food it's cause it's nasty food
***** neither will I, after the hell I faced my freshman year into the summer school....I SWORE OFF SCHOOL FOOD (I did it before summer school began because I was really furious at the fact I got stuck at summer school) then sophomore year this new "guideline" got implemented and I was like WHAT BS! and then I saw a 40% increase in kids bringing their own food, I myself bring a sandwich (I LOVE pb and j) something they got rid of by the end of my damn middle school years, ALSO back in the mid 4th grade (this is dawning 8 years ago) THEY TRIED THIS BULLSHIT BACK THEN AND WE TURMOILED THE SCHOOL FOR IT! (FIRST 4th grade RIOT ever!)
At my school when there is pizza for lunch its good but the problem is that they do not have enough pizza for the students the people who was last I'm mostly last didn't get sh*t if schools want to do this its better to start riots and protests and not show up for school than eating old and outdated food that's $h*t I don't eat and its better than eating school food
We get domino's pizza at my school and this kid behind me took a whole full box of pizza and nobody cared, and then I get yelled at for adding more dressing to my salad a
How are kids supposed to eat green or black bananas? Or apples that are soft, mushy and gross? Although it wasnt all the time, this was some of the fruit provided in high school. Also...not selling giant chocolate chip cookies for only a dollar extra might help.
Shannan Barker you dont want fruits and veggies from the school. i eat all the fruits and vegs at home but at school they will literally make you sick.
there is literally mold on it..... I pointed it out and the lady said it was from the paper lid.... the lid was aluminum... and it was even one of those preserved fruits.
I love the lunches at my school. I get the real deal which is the same meal that people on the free/reduced price program get. For me it costs $3. I get an main meal item, 2 fruits, 2 vegetables, and a pint of milk (also in chocolate and strawberry.) I feel it fills me up most days. Sometimes I go back in and buy some chip or something. The lunches also taste great in my opinion but it might be because my lunch is the 7th period out of 8 total in a school day. Also, my school has a program that sends out bags of food to students that need it over the weekend. They get tge food from the local food bank that does a great job helping the community.
Thomas Vann Well same as mine, but we have the vendors come to us, so we can still buy from them. We also have both cafeteria and a canteen so we have many options.
They keep talking about child obesity but what they don't understand that it's the kids fault. For example I was born chubby and I still am today, but no matter how many diets, fruit, vegetables, or how many times I work out the weight doesn't go away.
I dropped out at 16 to take care of my dying father, mind you that I later went back, got my GED and I'm now a paramedic. Anyway, our school lunches were fantastic here in NC. Basically, you had your pick of healthy or unhealthy, of course I chose the first but anyway. Diet is up to the person. Sure, feed a 16 year old salads and carrots or beans or whatever, and when they get home it'll be the same thing. You cant change a person's diet if they arent willing.
I agree. The important thing should be making sure the students are eating. Offering food that they don't want to eat or will throw away is not feeding them. I'm not suggesting giving only junk food, but what I am saying is that the plain salads, fruits, and canned veggies have got to go. I partly blame the regulations that dictate servings of each food group. This eliminates a lot of healthy and delicious dishes on the menu. For example, sweet and sour chicken is super easy to prepare and is also delicious. It's also very filling. But it probably wouldn't make the cut due to regulations. A lot of staple ethnic foods are very delicious, but again, probably wouldn't meet the American guidelines of nutrition, which is very unfortunate because they're so delicious, filling, and satisfying. AND THEY'RE ALSO HEALTHY DESPITE WHAT THE GOVERNMENT ON HEALTH AND NUTRITION SAYS.
What "calorie restrictions"? An 850-calorie lunch for high schoolers is completely correct; teenagers need about 1800-2500 calories per day, depending on their age and gender. In this video, the kids are saying that the vegetables are bland and tasteless. Whose fault is that? It's the fault of the poorly-trained cafeteria staff, who don't know anything about cooking. With a few inexpensive spices, they could make Asian stir fry dishes, or Indian dishes, or Mexican dishes with low-fat beans and salsa. Look at the cafeteria worker in the latter part of the video - she is obese! She likely knows nothing about delicious healthy food preparation. The kids prefer greasy burgers and fries? Bad idea, unless they want to end up looking like their obese parents (1/3 of all adult Americans are obese). Ever go to an Indian restaurant? Indian cuisine is full of vegetables, and you never have to add any salt, Tabasco, or any other condiment.
David Land well I know the kids want what they know is tasty. If you can get them to make tasty healthy food I don't think the kids will complain. I think some of the ideas to get the kids eat more veggies sound pretty dumb though. X-ray carrots?!
David Land Let me give you a run down of highschoolers. Since times have changed. You wake up, ass crack of dawn. Take a shower, get dressed, realised you woke up too late to make yourself breakfast. You make a quick coffee. Head to school. Waiting patiently for food your hoping isn't an utter abomination on the cooks part to try and spice up the menus, due to restrictions. You get through you classes, using up lots of fats for your neurons to communicate, and thus for you to think. You get to lunch. You wait in line. You pick out the best of the worst situation, and you try not to vomit, and eat what you can stomach. One problem, it's only a 850 calorie diet they give you, and you've only eaten the edible parts. Lunch ends, you get through your next classes. You either head home and study, go to work, or go to sports, all of which building up for dinner, which dun-de-de-dun! You had to make yourself, and it's probably just a tuna sandwich, instant mash potatoes, or something simple like that. You wake up, and repeat. Such caloric inefficiency causes out metabolism to prematurely slow down, which leads to obesity now, or later in life, due to a prematurely slowed metabolic rate
You teach people to eat properly from a young age they won't complain when they're high school age and menu changes. When I was in school we had the choice of a meat, fish or vegetarian meals, they all cost the same, and the lunch ladies were instructed to give second servings to anyone who wanted them. The principal was happy that we had close to zero waste in food. Free fruit was also available in each block so we could grab one as we left for recess. No sugary or carbonated drinks, as well as candy were allowed to be sold at school. One day per month with had pizza or chicken barbecue. Different countries, though, I went to school in Europe.
arthur sirkejyan if you are tired of these school meals, something mandated by the government and technically by US citizens, then maybe you should pack your own lunch? or get a part time job and have the money to feed yourself something other than these meals?
First of all, your second sentence doesn't make any sense. Secondly, you're assuming two things: that my school serves similar food as shown in the video and that I eat school food. In both instances you are wrong. Thirdly, the people grant a certain amount of power to elected officials, but that power does not extend to making personal decisions for people in their stead.
Cook some good food for these kids. Healthy and delicious food is not just a salad, there are billions of gorgeous recipes online of great, nutritious and delicious food, plant based! Teach kids how to grow their own food and how to cook it themselves!
They're not complaining that the food is disgusting they're complaining that the food is not enough also by not getting enough food it's hard to concentrate in class.
