Many thanks for posting this … very useful and a big thumbs up from me! 👍 I had the same problem and took the gearbox apart to find at least two broken internal parts! I ordered a replacement and refitted back together … success! Thanks again 🙏
@@diykhan I will have to look into that. Did you bring the gearbox with you or is there some model number on the device itself? I have been googling around and there are so many different versions 😵💫
Wow. So refreshing seeing a proper diy vid where the creator ISNT trying to make it all about them or their business/service! To the point and education. Thanks. 👍
Thanks for uploading this. My UPVC door locking mechanism stopped working today. Replaced the central part from local locksmith. Only problem I had was, I found out which lock it was from google, rang local shop who said they had it in stock. When I got to the shop, they asked is it the smaller deadlock or larger, of course i didn’t take the faulty one with me, and of course I had the cheaper one. Wrong. So back again to get the smaller one, but more expensive. Moral of the story is always take the old one for comparing. Still cost me just under £50, and job satisfaction.
Superb. Thank you very much. Faced with the prospect of fixing a similar problem, and never having touched one of these before, I was considering calling in an expert (Probably an expensive expert!). your clear and concise video made this a breeze to repair. Top marks. 😊👍
Thank you very much for posting this. I just replaced mone today. If it weren't for this, i would have been down atleast £150 if i had to call a locksmith. Brilliant and thanks again.
A thank you from me. I looked at a lot of videos to research the problem I was having. Your video was a superb assistance in diagnosis and replacement of the gearbox, which now closes and locks like a Mercedes door. 👌
I like this very much for the content and the fact that you showed that it doesn't always go smoothly but by perseverance, it can still be done...Thanks
really good video,, enjoyed that, often wondered what was inside one of these locks,, I d happily replace one of those now myself thank you. Brilliant job
@@diykhan I've just had to drill the lock because it didn't have the key when the handle was pulled up by mistate, how can I stop it locking that way when I fit a new lock. Thanks.
Excellent tutorial but I would add one word of caution. The screws which retain the locking strip into the edge of the door are self tapping and screw directly into the PVC. It is important to get these screws very straight as if they are only slightly off centre they can foul the sliding mechanism.
Hi very nice informative video. i have a similar issue but with the lock part that comes out into the door frame side after turning key to lock the door . On inspection , the slot (vertical -rectangular in shape)inner edge which seems to contain an inner layer of some material has bent forwards into the cavity , preventing /blocking the latch part that moves into slot with key is turned to lock the door. Any possible solutions for this . Many thanks.
Good job, but I couldn't watch you using the power screwdriver when screwing things back, you can very easily strip these plastic threads. I'm up for the same job, will do everything manually, plus will lube the screws before putting them back in just in case.
Hi my key Jammed one side door but can use key other side door and lock unlock fine any ideas. Was a sudden seizure door had been working fine. I tried a little oil didn’t help
My mother has a problem opening her front door. She has to yank down on the handle A few times until the door opens, it’s a upvc door. What would it likely be?
When you put the barrel back in the door I didn't see you putting the screw in that holds the barrel in place. Did you forget to put it back in or did you forget to film it?
My lock gets stuck, I have to pull it out with pliers so thinking of doing what you did..what was the company in Oxford you used as I’m not far from Oxford. Great video as well 👍🏻
I think for that price, I may as well put in a deadlock key system. Seems cheaper than the price u said. Maybe that's what happened with my front door.
Great video! My door has the opposite problem which is not unlocking /opening the door with the key..could this be a problem with the mechanism or the barrel? Thanks
IA will try, do you think it will be tricky to open the door once the handle has come off? And trying to turn the inside notch with a large screw driver? Any tips that you could recommend? Once the door has opened that's the hardest part the seems easy. Jzk khair
If the key turns and you can hear a faint click then it is a mechanism issue if the key keeps spinning then it could be either but usually a mechanism problem, if the key wont turn at all then it is a cylinder,if it turns a bit it could be either.
How can I open euro cylinder without damaging it. It's a new cylinder. But won't unlock door as the gearbox is broke. I snapped the 1st cylinder, to open door. I fitted new cylinder. And customer locked it without my say , so now I'm back to square 1.. Can I open without any damage.? What about the little latches on gearbox? Can't I flick a latch on the gearbox to open door?
@@diykhan Yeh i understand. I also get asked questions in relation to my job. But im a BIG Visual sorta guy. When im in front of whateva, its so much easier to explain, How To! To Whoeva.
