Urban beekeeping: Auckland's 50 hidden hives on rooftops 

Bee swarm? Who you gonna call?
Urban apiarist Jessie Baker began Bees Up Top eight years ago rescuing rogue bee hives and putting them to use making honey on Auckland rooftops. Since then she's put 15 on Auckland hotels - and fifty in all - which produce over a tonne of honey a year.
'If you find a swam in your garden, don't panic!' says Jessie. Call Bee's Up Top and the harmless hive can be relocated to the top of an inner city hotel to produce honey and help pollinate the inner city blooms. She's not fussed about Manuka honey. This green initiative is much better for the inner city bees and Auckland's ecology.
