This abandoned train station has been in dis-repair since the late 80s. Built in the late 1800s, this train station was used by the popular Pennsylvania Railroad that served West Chester to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station. When the Pennsylvania Railroad started phasing out, this line was then used by Septa up till about 1986. B/c of track issues and a decrease in ridership beyond the elwyn station, Septa decided to close the line from Elywn to West Chester and spent their money fixing up the Exton - Paoli Station. There was many other station beyond this station, Glenriddle (demolished), Lenni (demolished) , Wawa (demolished), Glen Mills (still exist), Locksley (still exist), Cheney (post office), Westtown (still exist, Art Gallery), Oakbourne (demolished), West Chester (demolished but station platform used by West Chester Railroad). The tourist railroad, West Chester Railroad, still runs excursion trains with old Diesels and MU Cars from West Chester to Glen Mills. If you would like to see some of the old stations between West Chester and Glen Mills and also ride in history, visit Westchesterrr.com for info and tickets. Note, this station pictured is beyond West Chester Railroad territory. Some info obtained from Wikipedia.

Very, very well done Steve. That's true history right there and you did a great job capturing it. The photos at the end were stellar as well.

In the late 60s, a new girl joined our 5th grade class (Upper Darby,PA Primos El.School) and her dad worked for the trains and they lived on the 2nd floor of the Primos train station. Looked similar to this place.

As soon as I saw the station and the operating type G signal (courtesy of SEPTA) I instantly knew it was Williamson School on the West Chester line. A few years back, the West Chester RR along with SEPTA ran an excursion from West Chester to 30th St. and on the way back we stopped at the station. It actually looks better in this video than it did then.

This appears to be the old Williamson Trade School station - Media, PA. I lived down the hill behind it on Prince Edward Lane during the 1960s and daily rode the train into the 30th Street station in Philadelphia while in college and for work afterward. The station was not open during that time although I remember two sisters that were still living there and possibly a brother at some time. It was pretty much boarded up and I had to stand on the asphalt and gravel walk to wait for the train. The train would only stop if you were out there and waving for it. I do remember on a few occasions in extremely cold weather one of the sisters let me wait in the old waiting room/ticket office. It was pretty rough and dirty. I believe that the sisters lived upstairs and the first floor was abandoned. Sad to see it in such disrepair. Maybe one day, the students at the trade school will restore it as a gift to the school.

Right now SEPTA is in the process of restoring regional rail service past Elwyn to Wawa. If demand warrants, SEPTA may reconstruct and reopen the regional rail stations at Glen Riddle and the Williamson School, as they are between Elwyn and Wawa

I don't know how you and TikiTrex below do this sort of thing. I went through an abandoned home a couple of weeks ago and I was so nervous, after I looked at the video I realized I just about ran through the place. To stay in a place for 10 our 15 minutes and narrate takes some courage. Good job Steve.

Love your stuff, Steve. I used to be a Federal Security Officer in D.C. There was an abandoned Women's College" just on the outskirts of D.C. that had a Olympic pol that was still full of water, after having been abandoned for about two decades. It had the right "feel" of history...with old banners commemorating past swimming victories against other colleges, from the 20's-40's. Many examples of woodworking skills in dark wood everywhere. 1800 Victorian with large covered entry.

It's sad. Reminds me of the past railroad history of my town. It used to have a huge rail roundhouse in it, with a grand victorian depot with a 10 story clocktower and everything. It fell into disrepair though, and they had to tear it down. So many cool old things get that treatment don't they?

Growing up in Bloomfield, Indiana, I read the Hardy Boys books and I recall going to the unused train station to look for clues. Clues to what I don't know but it was fun! Through the window I saw an old poster showing one or two men in a cartoon drawing and the phrase, "You're darn tootin'" and the part of the station that projected outward I recall something like a headset. Maybe from the telegraph? I don't know when the station was abandoned. I took a train trip once to Gary or Chicago (1960's) but I don't recall from where we left or just where we went as I was so young.

Hi, I love this video. All I could think about while watching was how great it would be to re-purpose it into a home but have the first floor a model railroad display area. But the asbestos warning would drive up the the cost. How ever fixing the place up with modern windows and insulation with new HVAC would make it a fantastic home/ club meeting site. An engineer would need to design the AC duct work. I wish I could do it. I hope someone does.

My favorite form of transportation is ocean liners of the past, up to the 1960's, but there is a special something to trains and train stations and even railroad tracks themselves. I especially like train tracks out in the country where the engineer sees things and views most people never see. I saw a book of Indiana photos and there were pictures of tracks out in the country; I started having dreams about them!

This station must have been converted to a private residence at one time. Either that or the station master also got to live there as a fringe benefit. I've never seen a train station with a basement and upstairs with bathrooms and bedrooms. The remains of a screened in porch also suggest the place was used as a home for a while as the train station itself would have never been equipped that way. In the basement is a coal fired furnace that fueled a single pipe steam heating system, common in buildings of the 20s, 30s, and 40s. The little valves on the radiators regulated the amount of steam in them. It was a great and inexpensive system that threw plenty of heat if not the most efficient by today's standards. It looks like it was a hand fired furnace, too. Woe to you if the fire went out in the middle of the night! You had to be sure to bank that furnace good before going to bed! The signal light is still illuminated on the tracks which are obviously still in service. I'm glad the line's not abandoned even if there's no use for the station anymore.

Nah, you do it right. If we were guarding a property that was not being used, or ready for conservation, and someone asked to see the place we'd escort them through to the buildings. Tax payers, like you, owned it. Most of the time it was vandals or graffiti artists. FYI, that pool had not electricity so the reflections of the water at night were quite eerie.
