Short'n'sweet this week (hope everything is ok) but still good value thanks to some stunning photos. I hope Calderdale becomes a book.

Great clip,great shots...that bugger on the canal flapping at you was a bit blue, sounding a bit of an avian "f" off there !

Like the low-key processing to many of these. Works well I think and brings Bill Brandt’s work to mind too.

Nice and contrasty. Perhaps bring out a litle more in the shadows for my liking. We just dont have anyting like this here in Australia. Except sort of in parts of inner Sydney from the first settlements in the late 18th century and in Tasmania, same period. Talking about the buildings, we don't have the canals of course.. wil check out the project so far on your website.

Thanks Dave. Darkening the shadows was intentional of course. I’m lucky as the North of England, especially local to me, is blessed with history and I’m hooked on it

Some great compositions here. nicely thought out. I wondered, if you were to use a tripod you might get more tak-sharp images. Other than that, interesting work.
@JamesRBurnsVLOG

Thanks Stevie, appreciate your comments. No tripod necessary here for me. Tripods are often a burden and especially in an urban environment. All images sharp and taken from the shackles of a tripod! 🤓😬👍

Fantastic, once again. I think my favourite of all your great images from the day is the one with the four building ends lit up, next to the canal with the imposing chimney towering above.

Was this in part dedicated to the Final Series of Happy Valley, by any chance? The series has sparked more interest in the area. We have many locations over in Doncaster where I live, but it's just not a safe place to be carrying thousands of pounds around your neck. Had it not been for that we have great railway heritage in Doncaster and the River Don runs right through the city. Unfortunately most of the city has been modernised. But along the river and canals you find some old Mills and docks. Might be worth me having a look but as for the city.... It's a no from me. Have you ever been confronted? You know not just asked what your doing but like a proper altercation where you've offended somebody by them thinking you've taken a photo of them whilst you've been out shooting street?

Inspiration to visit Hebden Bridge was very much triggered by Happy Valley. I’m a big fan of the series. I’ve slowly however gained an interest in photographing Victorian buildings which was initiated from my first photographing session in Saltaire from where I was brought up. I know very little about Donny other working with a few lads from there in the past. Interesting characters. Confrontation? Only the once, whilst in Bradford but that wasn’t really an altercation but a question of why is he taking photographs of us. If honest, I don’t feel completely at ease in Bradford but will continue to photograph it coz I find it interesting ( see next episode ) The key is to limit as much gear as possible, which I’m working on. Cheers Ross👍👍
