I really appreciate your honesty and approach to your sketchbooks, I'm trying to get back into painting after around 12 years of not doing any. I have so much anxiety and procrastination around starting new peices and I am the worst at putting pressure on myself to do well at everything so it doesn't help. So your videos after finding them today have helped me take some of those feelings off and I really appreciate that! X
Lovely video and sketchbook. I appreciated your honest commentary. I’m going through much of the same with regard to personal style & insecurities. It’s evolving and I’m enjoying the journey. I’m happy to have found your channel. Thank you!
🤗🤗💖💖💖💖So happy that you're on RU-vid, brings back wonderful memories of your earlier Skillshare classes, which I still enjoy watching again. Your art is a beautiful part of you. I started out learning from you and I've come along way in watercolour and even know I notice things that I missed. 🌸🌸🌸🌸
Wonderful!!!!!! Every time I listen to you I learn so much! Thank you for sharing your experiences because with you I learned being bad is part of the process and now I embrace it and enjoy it just by knowing it’s gonna take me somewhere else over time 🤗💛😘
Thanks for taking the time to watch - please take a look at my other sketchbook tours. There's lots more flip through is coming as I have just finished several sketchbooks.
I am currently doing the exercises in your excellent book and your RU-vid channel is such a wonderful companion to it. Wonderful resources - thank you 🙏🏽
@@OhnMarWinArt all of it has been so informative and useful for this beginner! I was wanting to paint this way but couldn’t quite figure out the steps and the book really demystifies a lot for me. The warm ups and exercises have been great and I have never used a quill brush before so it’s a joy to explore this flow process with a new-to-me tool. I’m just about to the ice cream cones- spent last night painting dozens of macarons. Very helpful and fun!
Thank you for this, Ohn Mar! I love when you say you have to have a bad painting. It comforted me as I was so always conscious of creating beautiful ones that ends up me not doing anything at all because it becomes frustrating. I am saving this for a constant reminder. You’re such a great teacher! Been watching your classes in Skillshare and I’ve always admire you. I wish I’d get to meet you one day ❤😊 Sending love all the way from the Philippines 🌈.
This video was a treat! It is fun to see where you have visited and hear your thoughts about your sketchbook. I joined a Urban Sketch group this summer, and it has been wonderful to sketch with other people and push my limits by drawing urban scenes.
Its always been a goal of mine to travel and paint. I just hadnt given myself permission to really explore until now. I hope we can urban sketch together some day soon Maria !
This is so interesting and helpful Ohn Mar!🌟 Coming from such a talented and experienced illustrator, hearing your reflections on your sketchbook practice, seeing examples and your journey is extremely helpful and encouraging! For years I have been meaning to build a sketchbook practice, and this is such a wonderful reminder not to let perfectionism keep getting in the way. Thank you so much for sharing! Total gem💖✨
I loved this video!, you watercolor sketches are beautiful, even the ones you’re critical about. And I love your use of brown as an outline instead of the typical blank. This video is encouraging me to joking the urban sketchers in my area. I always feel that I can’t join because I am currently just using colored pencils and don’t want to use ink. I feel I will be the odd one with my material choices. Thank you again for sharing.
I love your various styles, but I'm just curious and surprised: you use a fountain pen (or equivalent) added to watercolour so often in your wildflower sketches (e.g. Skillshare), so why did it not make sense for you to do this also in urban sketching, where it's the norm? I would have thought it would be the most natural thing for you! I appreciate your sharing your own journey with urban sketching, which I am just starting, and I want to try your use of pen outlines (only) for urban sketches.
I haven't taken the time to find a fountain pen that I like. I don't think the quality of line is similar to what I can achieve with an actual dip pen and nib - which would be tricky to carry around on location. So I will likely use a small sepia brush pen until/ if I found a fountain pen I like.
