The Urban Sketching drawing of a boat and cottages in Staithes harbour. This longer demo is another recording that has been narrated. Ideal for beginners, I will be filming complete 'HOW TO' lessons and fully narrated 'real time' tutorials soon.
This line and wash style is commonly used in urban sketching and is an easy step by step process great for art novices and beginners.
The process of pencil, ink and watercolour is pretty simple but there is always a fair bit to consider.

A very enjoyable and informative video with an awesome sketch at the end of it all. BTW I forgot all about my little Kaweco fountain pen lying in my work bag. I must get it out for tomorrow's 'tober' sketch. Thanks for sharing Doug👍

I’ve been so encouraged and inspired to do more line & wash bc of you. I have so many beautiful watercolors…so many I’m overwhelmed. I love your color choices. The bright yellow and orange and blue on other paintings as well (when you used only two or three colors). I know you mentioned the DS orange and the staining quality. Is it a bother to ask you to lost whay colors you only remember using in each description? That way I can see the info and dive into all the details on my own and practice?

DOUG!!!!!! Yea!!!!!! You’ve just started and I’m SOOOOO GLAD YOU’RE DOING THIS!!! 💃🏻 It’s ok if you’re going fast through the pencil part. You’re still talking is through it and, as a visual learner, I’m watching your movements and hand positions. Your videos are the only one I do this with. I ALWAYS watch more than once and I LOOK FORWARD to it!!! Talk away!!! Even if your family is starting dinner, life is happening. It’s a spa vacation treat for me. Thank you SOOO much for doing another one. I hope you’ll do more. Question. I just broke down and got an artist glove for drawing. Not sure it will help but for $7. Do you use them? I haven’t even looked, but if It’s not too much, would you mind including links to what materials you use. Maybe reach out to Jackson’s in the UK or another place and ask for an affiliate link, even Amazon, so we can purchase them and help YOU out!
