The best urban survival tip is to keep your mouth shut. Already, many of you have bragged to "friends" and neighbors about your stash and how you're "ready'" for anything. You do have to sleep, and that's when they come. Friend will turn to foe if he's not eaten for a day or 2. In an instant.

@@jamesc.e.s.4551 sounds like a lot of good stuff. Be ashamed if you got shot raiding innocent people's houses. Then all that stuff is going to be in someone else's house. And what happens when your compound gets surrounded by people who have figured you out? eventually you will be tracked back to your place. They will surround your "compound" and starve you out, burn you out even. This is why its just fucking easier to buy the damn rice and beans now. Why put your family, and friends, who trust you for protection, through unnecessary hell. Do the right thing first, and then do what you have to. Remember, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I worked at a local jail, built to house 600. If something happened and it was “cleared out” I always thought it would make a great shtf fortress. Heavy walls, easy to defend peremiter, a giant diesel generator with supply of fuel, big industrial kitchen running on gas, walled rec yards to grow plants in security. Just have to get rid of the current “caretakers” and “residents”. Theoretically 😂

If the SHTF and you try to use the railroad tracks to move your vehicle, get on or off at crossings and make double sure your undercarriage will clear the rails. The ballast will slide out from under your wheels and you will high-center even 4-wheel drive vehicles. Spent 30 years working for a railroad and pulling off-road vehicles off tracks that they swore could make it. Make double sure they aren't running trains, too. You'll lose any collision you have with a train. I've picked up quite a few bodies also.

I considered this many years ago as North America is covered in railway systems from west coast to East coast.. and it will be one of the easiest ways to travel across country. CN an CP Rail have service vehicles that ride on railway tracks via rail riders that attach onto the wheels of pick up trucks and other vehicles -you see railway service vehicles with these things on their tires - by installing this apparatus on your vehicle you can drive safely on any railway using your own personal vehicle. I wont mention if I have secured any of these rail rider wheel attachments as yet.. as I do not want to incriminate myself.. but I will say.. using pubic roadways and highways will be a death sentence during SHTF.

in a bad SHTF scenario were there is lots of destruction there is a crucial factor that needs to be known...if central government has left a functioning group of governance in the area and there is law enforcement even in small numbers you need to know about their situation and plans...if they think that you are going to die they are not going to feed you...if they say that scavengers are going to be shot then you should be extra careful... if law enforcement is not available and you want to do things properly then you must case the building etc for at least a day while being unseen and then go in with precautions...it is best that 3 people do this...one as a look out and two sweeping the building room by room watching each other's back...if you want to do this alone you should wait until dark...if there are people inside and they are not incapacitated there will be light sources and sounds to guide you...this is of course quite risky...you could create a noise and wait for them to come to you and then from a sheltered position evaluate the danger level... if there are humans that do not seem dangerous you should share info assess their survivability and decide if you are going to help them or not... if you are alone you will need people to keep you safe while you sleep so what you do in these buildings is very important...even if you sweep a building and there is noone there it is best if you don't scavenge stuff if it is evident that there is someone living at a particular room (ie don't mess with the stash of a survivor)...everything else is up for grabs...just do not let anyone see you leaving the building or follow you to your safe place... vehicle scavenging is another matter altogether because vehicles cannot be safe places (it is very difficult) so if there is noone around you should take anything you want from them...of course as with the building situation, if you suspect that a vehicle may be a survivor's vehicle you should refrain from stealing...

Great video, Nate. I used to be the person who would avoid my neighbors, didn't want to talk to people I'm general. Id just walk my dog around town and avoid even looking at people for the most part. Since this war started kicking off last year all of that changed. I started walking up to my neighbors and talking to them, exchanging pleasantries, talking about the neighborhood and what not, then started making a point to acknowledge people on my walks until eventually I was making small talk and having conversations with these people even 8 blocks from the house because it's still my neighborhood. I started identifying the "problem" neighbors and started figuring out who the neighbors are around my block who my yard connects with and who can see into my yard from their upstairs windows. After almost a year, I know this neighborhood and most of the people in it.

One skill that I have recently acquired is rope climbing and all the equipment for getting high in the tree tops. The high ground helps strategically and tacticly. You can spot more food hunting and other marauders or raiders. You can access the tops of those buildings and drop down skylights or vent fans easier than peeling a metal and cased hardened door. You can install very high antenna wires for a BAO-FENG radio. If there is a high mountain or building or tower that can be climbed, that would be an excellent hunker down spot. I've never heard of prepper channel mention rope climbing or mountain climbing.

The other bonuses to the large warehouse are as follows: - the huge footprint and roof area makes for massive rainwater collection potential. This can be easily filtered and purified, less so than groundwater, for just about any use you can think of. - even when lacking windows on the perimeter walls, they often almost always have skylights. This will keep residents on their circadian rhythm without exposing them to lateral risks. - so long as the roof structure can support it (preferably along the rafters), you can build grow beds on the roof to leverage natural rain and sunlight without drawing attention to your farming activities or risk looting. - as if the indoor square footage wasn't already advantageous, you also have massive vertical space to use for storage, construction under cover, and workspace for vertical operations (water filtering, distillation, crane work, etc) - the metal shelving you almost always find in these warehouses is strong enough for bunks, scaffolding added living space, or repurposing for barricades and fencing.

Gas station tips I worked at a gas station for almost six years in my twenties. 1 - If you wanted to keep it for yourself from a rush. There is at least one big button outside that will shut off the pumps. It is either on the outside wall of the main building or a short pole sticking out of the ground next to the building. Get the employees to play along and you can convince the line of cars that they ran out of gas. However, it would probably be better to use either the button behind the counter or in the office. So no one can see you push it. They are not locked. Anyone can lift the protective plastic cover because they are meant to be used in case of a gas fire. 2 - On the wall inside the managers office is a terminal displaying how much of each type of fuel is in the underground tanks. Somewhere nearby is also the wall box with keys for the building. The key box is never locked and has an index of what each key opens. There are many keys. 3 - The tanks are not sealed completely so fumes can get out. Otherwise, they would be like time bombs. What this means is that there will be a layer of water on top of the fuel. The truckers delivering the fuel regularly skim this water off before adding more fuel. So, if you have to take this fuel, push the hose to the bottom of the tank. [However, keep in mind whether you have space for the fuel at your shelter. Like a squirrel hiding nuts. It may be better to just leave it there with the pumps off.] 4 - If you are going to take fuel in an emergency, don't forget the cooking oil. Gas stations and fast food places will have large plastic containers of cooking oil that can be turned into biodiesel. Also, many places have an outside tank next to the dumpster where they store old oil, for special waste trucks to come get. They look like smaller dumpsters, you will know when you see it. It's no longer good for cooking but with extra processing it can still be made into biodiesel. Some places have an underground tank for the oil instead of an above ground one. 5 - Also, prior to an emergency most gas stations will willingly give away the cardboard boxes and plastic containers they used. Just ask. Those oil containers hold gallons. The cardboard milk crates are especially nice. I had one customer ask for them as he would store firewood in them and use the box as kindling. He'd put small sticks in the bottom and some logs on top then light the cardboard. Worked quite well and those boxes are very sturdy, and a pain to rip apart. Which is why most employees will gladly give them to you. 6 - Lastly keep in mind that fuel degrades over time, and the gas companies change the formula throughout the year based on the season to allow optimal performance. Gasoline is only viable fuel for 3-5 months. Diesel last 6-12 months. This is because the fumes are what ignite not the liquid. This combustible chemical compound constantly leaves as fumes. Oil can be stored forever and converted to fuel later. Use your fuel stores oldest to newest or you lose it.

It’s not as easy as you think to drive along the rail tracks. Depending on the size of the rail makes a big difference bouncing on and off. If there is a bridge be very careful! The older ones without walkways don’t have much wiggle room. Older slower smaller track will sometimes be bolted together every 30 to 50 feet. The bolts will kill your tires first hit if you don’t have reinforced sidewalls!! There will be high spikes that will also do the same! If the rail isn’t bolted than it will most likely be taller heavier weight. Rail is referred to by its weight in 3’ lengths. If this is the case, unless you have 33” or larger tires don’t attempt it. In a car don’t attempt it period! Even the trucks designed for the railway get stuck very often. Please understand it is not possible in the winter! Not possible!! The vehicle will be stranded, buried past its axles, it will freeze there as the engine cools. Remember there is still a train coming. Any time any direction! If your lucky enough to be able to get a loader to dig to the vehicle it will still need to be flat decked to a heated shop to though out minimum. What you want is an old Jeep remove the tires and run on the rims. Dangerous but it will work on anything other 56 1/2” centre to centre on the wheels. The narrower the rims the better to prevent wandering. Now you have a hole world of problems to navigate though. Switch, crossings, interlocking ( crossover), any yard or terminal. Remember train!! Any time any direction!! Up to 110 miles in hour in Canada and US. Just don’t do it unless everything has been shut down for months and some how you’ve made it.

Many people may have to initially shelter in place, and it should be mentioned that it's a good idea to at least try to harden their homes where they're likely to have to remain for at least the first few days when TSHTF. Doesn't have to be elaborate. Maybe just putting plywood over windows, but making sure you have a way to maintain visibility of the surrounding area. Think of how you could barricade your doors, while still having a quick egress in case of an emergency such as a fire. Maybe set-up one room as a kind of low-budget safe room you and your family could retreat to, one thing I've thought about was to have removable shielding of some type to protect against gunfire from bad guys, keeping in mind that however imperfect the protection, it's always better than nothing, maybe getting panels of scrap steel boiler plate, and since I used to do this when I was working my way through grad school, it's something that I'm familiar with - whenever a gas station is closed and sold and the land it occupies is no longer going to be used for that type of business, the law requires the underground storage tanks to be pulled and scrapped, Now older stations, especially the small independent ones not affiliated with the big companies, typically will have steel tanks, and they're constructed from what is referred to as boiler plate, which is usually about 3/4 inch thick steel. After the tank is pulled and purged to remove any flammable residue, before it can be scrapped, it has to be cut into sections and flattened. We typically cut them into 4' to 6' square sections, and hauled them to the scrap yard, and maybe they could be used to armor an outer wall from penetration by projectiles, wouldn't have to be fancy, just lean the panels up against the wall you're protecting, keeping in mind that these are not light objects. Granted I know where to obtain stuff like that, but even though it may sound crazy, I'm just trying to think outside the box - I recall a magazine article some years back talking about sandbags, and while that may work, I simply don't see that as practical for most folks - but you don't even have to go as far as boiler plate to at least have something - if you know where the scrap yards are, there will be plenty of other metal objects, like something as simple as a car door, maybe, or the hood or trunk lid of a junk car, if you live in certain rural areas, you may know someplace nearby where there's a bunch a junk vehicles just sitting there that can be cannibalized, lots of obtainable odds and ends can be repurposed for SHTF scenarios if you think about it, how about concrete blocks or bricks? All I'm trying to say and give a couple of examples of is that if a SHTF event takes place, one of the number one things you're absolutely going to need besides food, shelter, etc. is ingenuity. Because everything is going to be turned on its ear and many things that we take for granted without even realizing it when we think about prepping won't be there be there and regardless of how much thought anyone puts into their prepping, when the SHTF at some point you're going to run into the need for something that you don't have and never considered because it was so mundane and obvious. If we really thought about it, the list would be nearly endless, especially with situations with lived ones with special needs, especially in regard to limitations on their mobility. We can never think of everything or anticipate every possible situation. Just try to practice thinking outside of the box however you can, ingenuity is vital, even if you're not a McGyver. Remember that clichéd phrase: "Improvise, adapt, overcome".

Let's just say I knew a guy that used to be a good old boy with a Chevy truck and a half barrel of beer that attempted to drive on the tracks one drunken night which resulted in me I mean him slicing both drivers side tires. The sides of the rail are extremely sharp and must be entered on a road that has the tracks embedded in the asphalt. And even then you must be extremely cautious not to hit the sidewall on the rail.

Water pumps and fuel pumps are built for different densities, also using a water pump for gasoline is a last-last-lastest-superlast option because the rotor is not anti-spark. Diesel you can use a water pump but it will highly degrade rubbers and bearings and will burn out the motor eventually (personal experience). I'd guess that using the station pumps might be the best option if available. Keep up the good work 🤙

You are spot on about freeway grid lock. I've seen it happen in hurricane evacuations on the Texas Gulf Coast with the supply chain still up. Many folks, when told to leave the area, wait too long. There is a lesson there as well. Cars on the clogged freeways break down or run out of gas, that causes traffic to bog down even more. Then more vehicles break down, often from over heating, or lack of gas. Stations along the routes may have power but no gas. Sometimes supply trucks can't even get into the area due to traffic. Many local gas stations within the evacuation area will be shut down though once the evacuation is announced, making it hard to top off a tank ladt minute when starting out. A few stations will shut down but leave the pumps on for people with credit cards. But those run out of gas quickly. Diesel seems to last a few hours longer. People have died sitting in stalled out cars on the freeway, often from dehydration or heat stroke. Others evacuated the area late, ended up stuck in their vehicles on the freeway, and were forced to ride out a major hurricane in their vehicle. Hurricanes often includes tornadoes and watershed overflows, in addition to the expected high winds and wind driven debris. Armed looters, even small gangs, have become a serious hazard post event. Grocery stores and gas station parking lots, even though they are closed, become impromptu camp grounds for hungry, thirsty and out of gas travelers. Many of these folks are the ones that resisted making basic preparations before hand, even though they had ample warning. Lots of the evacuees for Rita failed to pack more then one bottle of water when they headed out. They also waited until the last minute to leave. Once some of these folks are stranded they think nothing of taking whatever they can get, however they can get it. In their minds their plight is always someone else's fault and they are owed whatever they want or need. You do not want to get into that mix if at all possible. Evacuating a few hours sooner, having 1 or 2 five gallon cans of gas for a reliable vehicle, and packing some water and food, would make a seriously positive improvement for many people. We gas up several days before an expected event, and then we top off daily so that we go into the event with full gas tanks plus lots of fresh back up fuel in storage tanks. I bow hunt with a regular bow, and a cross bow. But if I have to forage for small to medium game, I'm using a scoped and suppressed Ruger semi auto 22 LR rifle. It's the one type of suppressed firearm that is actually as quiet as depicted in movies. "Hollywood Quiet" as we say. IMO, you are going to be FAR more likely to harvest an animal with the 22 than with a bow of any kind. I wouldn't want to get into a fire fight with the local motorcycle gang with just a 22 rifle, but I would rather have that than just a crossbow. Same goes for packs of feral dogs as well. As lightweight as 22 rifles are, I'd probably still carry a slung lightweight AR15 and at least 3 to 4 thirty round mags if I was out hunting after SHTF. But another advantage to having some preps set back is that you might be able to wait a few weeks, or even months, before you have to actively hunt game. A lot of people will probably be dead by then, or in some kind of camp, so you won't encounter as many other people while hunting. But the ones that you do encounter may be very dangerous. Your definition of a "game animal " might not be as narrow as it is now either.

Great video! One of the best places to hit right after SHTF is schools. Elementary, Middle, High School, etc. They have large amounts of food, medical supplies, science equipment (Good for making certain things if needed for a long-term situation), and more! Plus, they should have lots of fuel at the bus lot. Most people won't think to hit them until later as well. Regarding train tracks: I'm told it is best to let a little bit of air out of your tires before driving on them so that the vehicle 'sits' on the tracks better. Something to consider.

Another problem is knowing exactly when to act, and how to determine just exactly when SHTF has occurred. I mean, sure, if nukes start flying and dropping, or has detonated in the atmosphere causing an EMP, or zombie hordes have overrun the authorities, or a Red Dawn scale invasion, something that shocks the system, you can tell that ShasHTF. But right now, it's a slow, gradual culmination of events that will eventually get to SHTF, so it would be prudent to identify certain events that will determine when ShastrulyHTF, and when to activate your full-on SHTF plan.

There is one thing I have to disagree, when it comes to fuel, history shows all fuel at gas stations will be empty in a matter of an hour or less so no siphoning. People will literally trying to siphon other vehicles which has been occurring in the last several years. Now when the feces hits the oscillating blades within 30 minutes or less you might find yourself in gridlock. Especially the scenario of an EMP occurs.

Something regarding gas stations I learned when I was a pump attendant/supervisor just a few years ago is that the fuel and propane resupply came about once a week on average, usually 5-10 days depending on the holidays and season. It was a busy gas station in my town because we were the only one to offer full service and we filled propane tanks. Two of the employees were transferred from other provinces and said they experienced the same thing at every other co-op. BC, Alberta, Sask. Manitobah and Onatrio were the provinces I'd heard about so maybe that is useful to someone. Also if you can I'd recommend getting the Co-op account number so you get a little bit of cash back

Nate this is pure gold as we approach DDay. One thing about your thoughts on being able to charge at a solar farm. Solar farms have special safety mechanisms for not allowing them to put juice on to the grid when there is a power outage. This mechanism prevents “backfeed” and is the #1 thing lineman worry about when restoring downed lines. Panels are energized anytime the sun is out but not always putting energy on the grid. I recommend if anyone would consider harvesting panels after SHTF that they do a little research on how to decommission these safely. Even an accidental removal of a ground wire could be catastrophic. Utilities and fire departments are instructed to let them burn if they start on fire until a solar expert arrives

Its not so much that the stations will run out of fuel, I think it would be more or less inaccessible without power, those holding tanks are decent sized when you realize they support a community in fuel on a weekly fillup.
