we use a size 16 PTN and get quite a few tilapias some quite big.. a helluva fight on a seiryu.. but this has made go from traditional fly fishing to Tenkara.. amazingly fun. Great Video Mate! Keep up the great work
Perhaps try coming a bit further east next time? We have some decent shoals of bream in the Regent's canal in Hackney, carp, plenty of perch. Also some quite interesting urban spots on the River Lea.
Definitely mate. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I think I’ll have a go in the town where I live if my licence covers that river. Or maybe the canal also.
Ditch the furled line, use a euro style tapered leader with sighter and a dropshot nymph rig(keep the shot tag end 9inches long and the weightless fly tag about 2-3 inches long) , or tie some heavy beadhead barbless Sakasa Kebari. use 6-7x tippet for these fish , with such light lines and tippets the even lightly weighted flys will get to the bottom quickly. eruo style pink squirmy wormy is a great fly too!
@@wgist87 , I am going for carp and steelhead ,so I am in the same bandwagon . don't buy mono leaders, just build them yourself , you can adjust the taper as per your rod's flex/ stroke
Thanks Neil, I was amazed by the number of people who came and asked me if there were really any fish in the canal. I guess everyone automatically thinks that its so polluted that nothing could live in there.
How long is your Tenkara rod? I am a UL lure angler but I have considered buying a Tenkara rod to have a go with my micro soft plastics down on my local canal. I was thinking maybe get a 12 ft (360 m) rod. Do you use a braided leader and section of fluorocarbon? I would hate all that attention you were getting, I prefer to get out at sunrise in the Summer
Peter. I have several rods of varying lengths. But I would recommend a multi length rod so you can fish what ever length suits the conditions of the river or brook you are fishing. If you are in the U.K. I can recommend the strooan 2 from esoterictackle.co.uk it’s my favourite rod and reasonably priced. I tend to only really use a 3 or 3.5 level line. I mostly only get attention in the city where I don’t often fish. I prefer to be out early or late afternoon on a secluded brook somewhere also. But sometime when I have been working away from home or trout is out of season and the rivers are all swollen and I fish able I’ll head to the canal. A 12 foot rod would work in a canal. It will give you some reach to get to the other side if it’s not to wide. But depending on how much space you have on the toe path. Give it a try and let me know how you get on 👍🏻
I was fishing on the regents canal in Regent’s Park right by London zoo. You can find it on google maps. You will need to buy a permit to fish on the canal called Waterways Wanderers Permit available here licensing.canalrivertrust.org.uk You can find maps etc that tell you where you can fish close to you. You will also need to buy a rod license, available here www.gov.uk/fishing-licences/buy-a-fishing-licence Fishing in the U.K. is very different to fishing in the USA with regards to permits. Generally speaking there is no free fishing in the U.K. apart from off the coast. All inland waterways and lakes etc are owned by someone or the fishing rights are leased by fishing clubs that charge for membership or day passes. The prices vary quite widely from a few pounds to several hundred depending on location and type of fish targeted. The Waterways Wanderers Permit is cheap at about £23 ($28) for a year. I think they do day and week passes depending on how long your here. Hope this helps.
Some one asked the same question a couple of comments bellow. If you take a look for it I put all the detail in my answer to that coment. But in short it’s legal but not free.
Thanks Carlos. Where do you live? I don’t live in London I travel there for work quite often. I do have a canal mere my home in Bath and will give that a fish at some point. The U.K. has a pretty substantial canal system covering most of the country
I live a bit far from you. Northeast Brasil, Natal-RN. I have some magrove canals where baby tarpons and snook swim around. They are vey fun on a tenkara rod.
Thanks mate. You got to get it where you can. I wasn’t expecting much but it was such a cool time. I’ll definitely be going again. It’s a pretty long canal so loads more spots to try.
Thanks mate. I love being out in the country side but I also truly had a great time fishing in London. It’s something I would never have thought to do if I didn’t have the Channel but really glad I did it. It was a totally different experience fishing in a major city like London but also a very positive one. And yes I’d hate to live there.
It’s been noted mate. You’re not the first to say it and I’ve adjusted the way I use music in my videos. In fact I will probably faze it out altogether. Great to get your input 👍🏻
Ya, the music kills it for me. Just kills it. Dead. Too bad, too. Oh well. Also: Catches a fish, doesn't show it, wtf? More of a music video than a fishing show, I guess.
Thanks for your input. What about the music you don’t like? Too load or just don’t want music on it at all? I think I showed most of the fish. I don’t like to keep them out of the water for too long , canals are quite difficult to work on in that you have a lot of people wizzing past in bikes etc and the paths are only a few ft wide so not much space. But I’ll try and do a better job in future to show off the fish better. Thanks for your input all I appreciate your remarks 👍🏻
