This house is lost in the 40's/50's and it's absolutely a gorgeous, preserved example of the time. Wow. If anyone buys this I hope they keep most of it original - especially that 30's / 40's art deco bathroom.

I think the house was built somewhere around 1870 on one of the attic doors upstairs I saw that. That House has definitely been lived in since the 60th, that front porch renovation is definitely within the last 20 years also the electrical panel in the basement was newer then the 60th, you're correct on baseboard heating but it's not electric it's hot water, most likely the reason for two hot water heaters in the summertime when you don't need to use gas or heating oil you can have it shut off and just use the electric hot water heater, saves quite a bit of money. In my opinion the place is very livable after a good cleaning and some repairs.

I love this house. I'd move in and renovate it to it's old time beauty. Thanks for taking the time to do the tour.

It appears to be a home where a child of the original owner started renovations and either ran out of money or time and the other children abandoned the dream. I may have some experience as I am such a child and I find myself running out of time. Human age tarnishes and does not shine anew. A labor of Love! Thanks Pam! Ralph.

Of all my YT subscriptions, yours is the one I get excited for when a new video is posted. Your camera work is awesome, and the fact you take your time and "talk us through it" I follow other explorers, and find myself wishing they did a better job of explaining. I always think "TikiTrex would do a MUCH better job" Looking forward to your next uploads! Much love, from Washington State 😊

Hey Pam, What an interesting house! I loved the upstairs with the awesome windows. Most of it looks in pretty good condition. The farmer must keep a close watch on it as there were no signs of vandalizing. Definitely one of he most well maintained abandoned ones I've seen! Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed this one!! Take Care!! :)

You're very welcome, Teala! Glad you enjoyed this one. Yeah, they seem to keep a close eye on the house as he arrived within seconds after I did. Luckily, he was okay with it seeing I was not there to cause harm. A lot of farmers here aren't so accommodating. Cheers! :)

I love the way you methodically explore a House, building, barn, you mostly work the same way every time, always smooth, not rushed. You do such a great job of finding clues as to who may have lived in the house, what year they left, gender, age, if there were kids or not, looking for items with dates like wall calender, newspapers, magazines. You are concerned for your viewers in that you will not show nudity, profanity, or stuff that that you do not feel would be in good taste to show on your channel. Sorry for the long post but I wanted you to know that your subscribers enjoy exploring with you more that you know. I check in every few days to see if there may be a new video, if not, I sometimes go back to some of your older ones and watch again. Take care Pam, and stay safe.

At 1:30 I love those cut out cathedral window tiny rooms, what a wonderful place to sit in a chair and have a little prayer 🙏 Their almost like a tiny chapel in the house. I love these old buildings because @ one time it was someone's home. I do not understand why people try to put feelings into a old home, scary feelings, something bad is going on..there's nothing going on, a happy family once lived here and now it's no longer safe why do people have to read anything more into these? 🏡🌾

really decent of the guy to give you permission. it appears that somebody renovated the downstairs in the late 60s, early 70s, but didn't bother with the upstairs. a really unique house.

Thanks again, Pam, for a great video, and your thoughtful commentary. That house looked like it was lovely at one time. Kinda looked like the last decor "update" was about 30 years ago-very late 70’s to mid 80’s. Very cool place. Boy, would it be nice to know its history! What a treat to see new explores! Name's Cristina, by the way, from the "wilds" (hah!) of Northern Virginia, where development has destroyed sooo much history. I've lived here most of my life and I've watched landmark after landmark disappear. I'm glad you're documenting as you are-these relics of other ages are important. :)
@TikiTrex
@TikiTrex 10 лет назад
Nice to "meet" you, Cristina! That's too bad about developments destroying your area. From my drives through there, it's very pretty country. We have a lot of newer development going on here as well, as you can tell. And progress is taking its toll. Thanks for your nice comments. :)

This house was probably built in the late 1850-60s. We've got a similar house here in Milwaukee that looks just like this one (it was built in 1851). The exterior brick looks old and original as well. It always amazes me how they where able to tuck little rooms under such small roof!

Very nice place still. It looks like it wouldn't take too much to get it inhabitable again. I do find it strange that the bedrooms look so much more disintegrated than the other rooms. I wondered if the 1870 on the door was the year it was built also. Cool place.

Great channel. I stumbled across your videos last night. My wife an I bought one of these neglected 125 year old Ontario farm houses 14 years ago in the Ottawa valley, for next to nothing. Places like this are really a labour of love to restore. I don't think people realize the amount of hours work that it takes to properly bring these century + homes back to their original glory? Hopefully your rambles through these old beauties will inspire others to lovingly restore part of their history!
@TikiTrex
@TikiTrex 9 лет назад
Definitely a labour of love. I can only imagine the amount of work involved to restore these places back to their glory, but I can also imagine it was well-worth it in the end. I admire you both for doing so. And welcome to my channel!

***** The unit you mention as a 'furnace' is actually a hot water boiler plant. This unit heats up water in conjunction with a pump and moves it throughout the house in the cadet-style baseboard heaters. It can be really nice for heating and is sometimes used to also heat concrete floors and water pipes run through walls or ceilings. Unfortunately it has no cooling capabilities and doesn't provide air circulation like modern forced-air systems. Love your videos, keep it up.

Hello TIKI! Glad the owner let you in. Cool vid! Much mystery here. There were heating devices there that were manufactured after the calendar date you recorded. I imagine a house full of children. Great video as always Pam. Parts of this house on the first floor looked like with just a little work it could be lived in again, however, as we progressed up stairs it got much worse. I believe the damage begins when the roof is not re-roofed and starts to leak. the ceilings and walls start falling apart, mold starts growing due to the dampness. The wood starts to rot, all due to a leaking roof. I love these old houses, the cathedral windows were awesome. Thanks for showing it to all of us Pam. Stay safe and healthy. Steve, Lake Elsinore California
@TikiTrex
@TikiTrex 10 лет назад
Thanks, Steve. I noticed that the upstairs was worse than the main level as well. Leaking roofs seem to be what gives decay its foothold. It's all downhill after that. Thanks for joining me!

I believe that would be the year of construction! I was reading through the comments before to see if anyone else noticed the year. Currently we live in a house that was built in 1890 and an addition put on in 1980. I grew up in a house built in 1904.

Beautiful blue and black bathroom! I have never seen any with that color combination or with that basket weave tile. It is typical to do an "ell" add on which from the outside pictures seems to be what they did. They often did it for more room or when updating to add baths and kitchens. Also probably why they had exterior doors between the original house and where you came in. At least it sounds like he plans to save some things, though I would hope he would sell the whole house to someone so they could move it. But, even if he tears it down instead, that is better than vandals, rot, or thieves!

Wow, another amazing house! I would love to fix it up, it has so much potential. The smoke detector and dryer outlet are fairly recent, within 15-20 years. The Rheem water heater and electrical panel are around 20 years old. That boiler has been replaced as well. I'd guess someone invested heavily in that house in the mid 90s. The new porch almost looks newer, so perhaps the house has seen several attempts at rehabilitation. Oh, that other water heater in the corner is just the old one. Sometimes repairmen will just leave them behind if they're too much trouble to remove.

Hi Pam, Another really nice house and habitable with very little work needed! apart from the upstairs! which seemed a bit odd? It looks like the building was added to over several years because the central part seems older than the rest! I wonder if it may have been a small chapel at some earlier time? I wonder if the rope between the doorways at 08:25 was for Christmas cards? at 15:10 There was a door behind the furnace, I wonder where that led, or was it just leaning there? Thanks for a VERY interesting walk through :) Mick

Hi Mick! You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it. I think the string was for Christmas cards as well. It's the only thing that makes sense. The door behind the furnace just led to the outside. Loved those windows in the attic. If you videos show us anything, it's that they don't make 'em like they used to.

I think that the little windows above the doors were called transoms. Were the little rooms on the top floor servants quarters?

That's right! Another house I explored awhile ago had those little windows, and a viewer told me what they were called, and I drew a blank. But that is it. Thanks for the clarification, Keith.

That's a nice one. Hopefully they will keep it maintained, and maybe someone will live in it again someday.

I've been meaning to get to this! As for the farmer, if it were outside the realm of hypothetical, I would ask to rent it from him and fix it up as I lived in. If someone did, it would probably be an offer he couldn't refuse lol. 1:25, I wonder what he meant by F anything up. Maybe he does care about it? 4:00, I doubt it either side of that door was added on. It all looks like part of the house at large, plus the door itself is as at least as old as the house judging by the kind of door knob it would take. Maybe the previous dwellers wanted to limit noise between the rooms? As for the fireplace, it's possible it was sealed to use the chimney for the furnace/water heater only as is the case with many Baltimore row houses. The fake brick is only convincing to a degree haha. 5:55, always some kind of Christmas stuff rofl Plus, that large rectangular opening above the inside door is a transom. 7:40, I'd hate to have to change THAT light bulb. 8:00 is a daddy long-leg web, with some dead ones in it. They are surrounding me right now heehee 9:00, that curtain leaves a lot to be desired and little to the imagination in the privacy departmentt -_- 9:30 I can't believe how big that house is and it's only the first loor at this point! 10:25, technically, it's not abandoned since the farmer owns the land and is very much aware of it. It's simply vacant. I wonder if maybe his family lived there and then built the (probably) superior house he now lives in. 12:10, I guess he sold the ductwork for the heat registers for scrap metal. 13:00 Rafters AND spare laths :P 13:25, I wonder if 1871 was when it was built. It wouldn't be out of the question! I'm slightly disappointed with how small the second level is compared to the first. It's like a fraction of the space. :( But the cathedral windows make up for it ^)^ 15:00, I think the Rheem tank is the water heater since it has the copper water lines in it and is connected to the chimney. The other thing is just a mystery lol. Sometimes small furances suffice, eh? Oops, I'm catching your Canadian teehee. In conclusion, fantastic video! Thanks as always for showing us these gems in the rough, Pam. :) I do believe that house is in relatively good shape, all things considered. Some stuff such as certain light fixtures and wallpaper need updating and replacing, and repairs to the walls and ceilings upstairs as well as some other light renovation. If the farmer wanted to take it up, it probably wouldn't cost him the farm lol And being on the road he could easily stick a "for rent" sign out front. Some people like me don't mind being close to the road, it just doesn't bother me. Over and out! ;) Looking forward to the next installment!

I would also add that the stove and everything probably uses natural gas considering there are no oil tanks or anything. Ours has a power cord too lol and it utilizes natural gas. AND I really like the video title !

TraditionalHymns Roger that! Wow, you really spent a lot of time on this one, Lewis, lol! That's awesome! :) My guess is that they are going to be dismantling the house as they did the barn in behind not long ago and salvage the materials, which is why he didn't want anything f'd up. I did notice a perfectly cut piece of square out of one of the bottom rungs of the stairs going to the upper level, so must have needed a square piece of wood for something elsewhere, lol. So I guess you could say its function as a house and home is abandoned. :P Thanks as always for your very thorough analysis and input! I thought you might like that title! ;)

***** You're welcome and thank you, Pam! If indeed dismantling and recycling is what he intends, I hope all the beautiful doorframes, baseboards and woodwork ends up beautifying another building! :)

TikiTrex if dismantling, why does he keep the 1st floor spotless clean? and looks freshly painted too. Some curtains appeared new.

Nifty old house with some cool details, though some parts of the video gave me the creeps for some reason.
