Urbex: Abandoned Mansion

*Update*: This house has sadly been demolished as planned.
Exploring this abandoned mansion of which the property was bought by York Developments around the year 2010 to make way for new high-rise condominiums. It will be demolished. According to one of my viewers who had spoken to the previous owners, it only took a few short months of cutting the power to turn into what you see today. Copper thieves have also wasted no time as well as vandals.

I'm probably the only one who does this, but each time I watch one of your abandoned house videos, I try to imagine where I'd put the Christmas tree.

I am the demo contractor that demolished with house. We did it about 3 years ago...I couldn't believe my eyes when I was searching you tube and seen this. I demolish alot of homes but his one is one I'll never forget. I feel the same as everyone when I say it's a shame that it came to this. I couldn't believe the damage to this beautiful home. In its hey day this was a beauty.

So, I looked up the skin cream found in the young artist's bedroom. Secura is a medical moisturizer commonly used to treat dryness as a result of incontience (for ppl who have to wear adult incontinence aids) or for those with chronic diarrhea. However, there was also a bottle of beta keratin which is used in the treatment of a relatively rare skin disorder called Porphyria. Porphyria causes the skin to be very sensitive to light, often causing lesions when exposed to the sun. The skin also tends to be very dry. Secura has antimicrobial properties. Obviously, I'm not a doctor or anything and we'll never really know. But the fact that the bedroom is in the back part of the house, with heavy shutters covering the windows, plus the beta keratin and the secura, it's a pretty good guess that the young artist that lived in that room might have been very sick.

FYI. The lion head water spout is to rinse off after you get out of the pool. The area you came to and thought it was the kitchen (before you found the actual kitchen at the other end) is called a butler service area / or pantry if you will. That little sink is where the fresh vegetables and fruits were cleaned and prepared for breakfast, parties and dinner. The shelves behind the sink and on the other side of the doorway is where the bowls were placed after they were finished cleaning them. The area was also used to prepare cold hors'dourves. Like shrimp cocktail; cheese, meat and cracker platters, etc. I'm not sure if it was your video I watched, but some lady was going through a house and picked up what she called a jewelry box, off the floor, by a wicker handle. Just want to say that it was a sewing basket. To keep needles, thread, zippers, patchwork material, thimble, etc. You do a really good job going through these homes. And yes, the woodwork and lighting fixtures are absolutely gorgeous.

I agree with you Verna, some of the items in these homes that TikiTrex goes through has some real treasures (windows, doors, fixtures..etc) that others may not see as treasures. Some of these items are very costly to replace and some are so old that they could be considered antiques, I would think so anyhow with the age (in some cases, very old) as some of these houses are/were.

I've heard it said that everyone's life would make a good soap opera and it seems the biggest "stage" we leave behind are the places in which we've lived. Maybe that's why so many of us react to pictures and really personal artifacts left behind and are so sad when these places are vandalized and/or demolished-it's as if the stories, and people, are erased. If these lives disappear so quickly and completely, will ours as well?

I think Rebecca's painting was of Val Kilmer. You clean and clean and clean your house for years on end and then it just ends up a complete wreck like this anyway in the end. This is why some rich people live in hotels, especially after their kids leave home.

I can't or will understand why the vandals either have the need or right to destroy things. Houses like this one could have probably been refurbished if it wasn't for the amount of damage that they did. Despicable to me.

I stumbled across this video and noticed a bunch of other people who find abandoned houses too. My question is, why do you think someone would leave these homes? Wouldn't the government confiscate them for non-payment of taxes? I couldn't afford a house if it cost a thousand dollars, yet there are houses that are abandoned. My mind is officially blown!

The "first" kitchen is called a "prep kitchen." That is where fresh fruits and vegetables were often prepared because they can be so dirty and buggy. This one is hard to watch for me because it sincerely one of the coolest houses I've seen and to see it in such a state is so sad. The peeling paint and dilapidation would be bad enough but that someone had the audacity and disrespect to vandalize it! I wonder what happened to the family that lived there?

thanks again for preserving the architecture of such a great place. Sorry and sad to see it demolished. Lets tax the shit out of everyone and put those who can't pay out in the street and take their land and home and let it fall down just like we do with the rest of the country! I have seen lots of shows about flipping house and documentary s on abandoned places all over the world. More places than I would have ever imagined. Every place has a common result... Vandalism! What does that say about the human race when its common place for destruction for destruction sake. Its sad.
