Amen me too. I have a crushed lower spine so I'm in bed most of the time and I love getting away.JeanieWilcox57@gmail.com. Peace. I would love to know other people who are disabled.
Solid completely restorable Victorian style house. Would like to know more of the situation of the owner and why they left this potentially beautiful home. Thanks
@Julie Sprik most abandoned pla ces *could* be restored but usually have no value or the cost would be prohibitive considering the location or cost of remodel/upkeep. Individually it varies, but usually it boils down to too expensive to fix or maintain for the area it is located in
im mennonite and have family from bolivia and mexico. that house reminds me of my grandparents old house XD. btw, mennonites dont have rules about using electricity or cars like the amish. only case ive heard of mennonites with no hydro are in the really poor areas of mexico. like how my dad was raised. my mom on the other hand had electricity her whole life. it all depends really on their circumstance. love seeing that type of calendar btw :3 brings back memories of my grandparents
Do you remember big wardrobes in your grandmothers house? She probably had no closets either but you may have been too small to realize it. The very first house I rented had tiny closets and we used wardrobes also to supplement those little built in closets. The remainder of the house was wonderful though. I love old houses, and truly appreciate your films of exploration of old houses. Thanks again, and be safe! Regards, R Bryant
Those birds are so cute and not scared of people, beautiful cranes! I do love brick or stone houses, they are so inviting. thanks for another great explore!
I absolutely enjoy your videos! You have inspired me! I actually explored my first house yesterday and thanks to your videos I learned what to look for and how to do it safely.Thank you for sharing!
they are Mexican Mennonites... I am from Chatham Ontario and that receipt says Chatham Ontario right on it.. They are not old order, they drive, have jobs, they go from community to community working in the fields.
Notice the first thing you see is a lone chair! But no christmas stuff this time but you did find a door that wouldnt open, not loik that panthom something you did years ago where the door pushed back...
Number 7 cigarettes. That is something I have not seen in years. CMO oil is a dietary supplement. That old school desk reminds me of my school years in the 70's. Did you notice that had the same type bannister as the Eddie Cemetery house?
It's an important codetos follow. The items in the homes don't belong to us- but to the families who left them, the house and the memories. It's matter of respect. Plus, you want to leave stuff for future explorers. Thanks for being so respectful. :)
And thx again. You're really a great host through the world of abandoned places. Sometimes your videos took me back in my childhood.I explored my first house in the early 80s (sadly got no camera in these days^^) and lost that hobby when i grow up. In the early 2000s me and a friend deceided to visit castles (there are pretty much in my country, Germany) and so i get back the "feeling" for exploring ...but sadly not that much time i need. So i restrict myself to watching videos here....
Any closets in this house were added after the 1950's when built ins became popular. Historically they were considered luxuries and were taxable as were interior stairs. That is why you find armoires in these old homes as they held the clothing and acted as dressers also.
This area is very big for Tobacco it’s possible this could have been almost like a group home for the workers who came over seas for the summer. If I’m correct there are also a lot of windmills in the area which I find to be a big reason for a lot of the abandonment. If it was Mennonites that lived here they would have been a little more “modern” but there are a lot in southern Ontario who drive Vehicles and have electricity these days. This area is the best for road trips there is so much to see and do.
I live just a few miles from that house. It is miles and miles from stores and other services. Lots of empty houses in this area as farms grow larger and more people move to larger centers. A good solid house will house seasonal farm workers until the house deteriorates . I'm sure it would be crazy expensive to heat this house as there is no natural gas service in this area . I love these old farmhouses. I often go for a ride to look at these places. I call the rural decay tours lol.
1. The calendar is bilingual, Spanish and German. The Mennonites have settlements and missions through Mexico and all of Central and South America. One of my cousins worked for years in a mission in... I think it was Bolivia. She speaks fluent Spanish. I think she's in Manitoba now. 2. If you look, the school picture thing was for Frank Hamm. I may be related- my maiden name is Klaassen, but we have Friesens and Hamms and Dalkes and all manner of Mennonite names in the family. My aunts married a Fehr and an Unger. But my father, *GASP!* Married an Inglisch. My cousins joke that I'm half-caste. :-)
Watched a few of your videos. Love the way you are patient and focus on the detail/objects in these houses. Those cranes look very much like a heron we see here in England. Love their little squark when they flew of as if they were saying,"Ok, you can have the fuxxxxx house" lol...great videos
These people were Old Colony mennonites. A few things give that away. For example, Frank Hamm is a very Old Colony name. The one calendar is from an old colony Mennonite store in Langton which has a lot of mennonites in that area. I was actually born and raised in the old colony church. They are NOTHING like the Amish or other mennonites.
The best I could tell was that this house had on one door to the outside and that was the frond door (i an not counting the upstairs door into space). What would they do in case of fire? Go out a window I suspect. Thanks Pam, for the video visit!
This house is old..looks like from the 1800s. The bedrooms had no closets, no bathroom upstairs, The frontdoor has the double doors, and I noticed there was no other entrance to this house but the frontddoor. There has to be a craw space under the house cause I noticed some small windows or vents outside around the house. Also wondering if there was a walkout in the front from the upstairs that must have rotted away cause of the door at the top of the staircase.
To go in and document the old abandoned houses is great but the vandals are the ones I'd love to see thrown into a hole. This old house is shot due to the fact that the bricks are all deteriorating and you can't save that. But the old wood trim is worth a mint since you can no longer get it and it was more than likely milled from trees harvested from the lot years gone by. I guess the people who owns these old homes just don't understand what they have and they will hire a wrecking crew and demolish the whole place without harvesting the trim first. Very sad. I'd try to keep as much of the wood as possible first and then put it down. Thanks for the memories and the video. You do such a great job and we really enjoy it Tiki Trex.
ZMO Oil is a topical antiseptic and supposedly an analgesic as well. We had it around the house when I was a kid. It may kill germs, but I don't remember it being much good as a pain reliever. It had a very strong camphor and eucalyptus smell.
Great find Triki, very cute from the outside, looks as though maybe cheap builder grade repairs to the inside, could be ripped to the original studs, maybe original hardwoods under that creepy shag ? Would make a beautiful B&B .. Thank you Triki .. Seeing what Frank looked like after his charge of leaving the fridge open, didn't we all have brothers who did this ?? haha.......
I love the architecture of this building. You can see the moldings around the windows which at one time were very nice. Nice doors, especially the double front doors - beautiful view from the 2nd floor.
I also enjoy your videos. I have only recently discovered them and prefer them over any of the others I have seen. please keep up the great videos, love your quiet respect.
No problem :) We, as explorers, follow a code which is to take only pictures and leave only footprints. Something I stand by and follow. Taking things can get you into more trouble legally. I prefer to leave houses untouched as they were left. :)
I found it very curious that a house of this size had no rear or side entrance, only the front? Trex Bonus: The two very large cranes in the back yard. ~oO(♫)Oo~
2:25 The sentence on the bottom of the calendar is German and if it is translated analogously into English it means "I wish you good luck for the year 2006." Usually "Glueckwunsch!" is used if you want to say "I congratulate you on your accomplishment" to someone.
Looks like when u enter the front door it once went straight through next to the stairs. Before there was a bathroom. It was too jumpy to see outside but there may have been a door which was bricked up.
So lucky to chance upon TWO of those birds that close. We photographed this house and the other "next door" (the cooler looking one). The owners were on us within about ten minutes. Luckily we hadn't gone inside, because they were rather crabby as is. Lots of theft over the years.
"Smells like urine in here" **starts picking things up** Lol One of the children might have been deaf because there was a book on the floor with 'Deaf Studies' written on it, near the beginning.
we had one of those stoves in our house. when power was out during the ice storm we were warm an toasty an had hot water an a gas stove. the only thing missing was lights an tv. we read a lot by candle light
I enjoyed this tour. What an awesome house. I'm surprised that the house had only one bathroom and one door for entering and exiting. I was also intrigued by the Spanish calender from Bolivia. Thanks for sharing. You did a GREAT job!!
Thanks for another great video. This house doesn't look like it's beyond repair, but an exterminator could have a field day in there! Glad you made it up and down those stairs: They looked (and sounded) kind of scary. Be well and stay safe.
when you went upstairs, I noticed the same mouldings, mop boards and doors as my house! built in 1853 southern Michigan by German immigrants. from Baden. maybe they came from the same area, and this why so similar?
To Tiki Trex when you made this Video of the Mennonite house it looks good on the outside ,But some time has passed on by and their were two men doing an Abandon exploration thing to and now looking on the outside of the house you can not see any of the white curtains in the windows ,Now instead they have darken sheets hanging up in the windows it does not look the same ,I thought you should know this you did the exploration on that place ,I enjoy watching this video when I can not sleep when it does the trick to help me fall asleep great job on this video
On that calendar it is in German and Spanish, I don't understand the Spanish but the German says, "Good luck for the Journey 2006" so like safe home or safe trip.
The german part says: "Congratulations for the year 2006". So it is pretty bad german (and "Glueckwunsch" is spelled wrong also) ...^^; I guess they meant: "Viel Glueck für 2006".
SoramimiKeiki Normally it spells "Glückwunsch", in one word. But Glueckwunsch would also be correct. Because ue = ü in German. The sentence means; good luck in the year 2006
the open web of the concrete block of the basement told me theres no basement.. just airflow under the house.. not good.. no insulation .. no fireplace.. no central heating.. only oil heaters... house needs a new foundation and windows restored and doors and house is a full gut .. 175.000$ repairs
The good old operation game. That used to scare the mess out ta me when I was little. Bbbbuuuuzzzzzzzz and the red nose lighting up. Don't touch the sides!! The marble top table is beautiful. To pretty for a family to leave.
It's amzing that the place wasn't trashed and tagged. Cool building though. You really should use gloves. And, I know you do the explores alone. Just stay safe in you journies. Thank you for sharing a part of your day with us!
This was awesome to see. I loved the birds 😄 where are you? I've been subbed for a few days and im loving it! You're an awesome explorer😍☀️💋. I'd love to explore with you! Have a blessed day!
You are correct...Those are Sand Hill Cranes. There are tons of them in Florida. They usually fly down for the winter, but I think anymore, they just stay year round. Nasty birds...They Shat everywhere. LoL, Those birds can shoot a stream of poop 4-5 feet. They bend over and skeet crap on car doors. Love your videos.
That house would be a really cool house done up to it's original condition with fitting furniture etc along with some mod cons i'd love to own/live in that house looks nice and peaceful with plenty of fresh air ( i live in a city now days and there's a lot of grumpy people here 🙇 )
Thanks, Adam. Yes, I have posted many. I have been posting videos every two weeks this year (2014). I posted my last one last Tuesday with a new one coming out next Tuesday, August 26th. If you check the video list, you will see my most recent ones with the upload dates.
Funny - most of the houses have built in closets - here in Austria we haven't this closets we buy wardrobes ! I also never seen this bath tubes which I have seen in so many videos from you ;) ah also the light switch are so different very interesting
the main clue to the age of abandonment is the patterns on the large furniture like couches...1983 maybe...trespassers wouldn't bring in couches unless they are actually living there...all the papers are from later, the calendars etc...
Absolutely amazing. I've watched a dozen of your videos so far and have loved every single one of them. You do a wonderful job sharing what you know and I appreciate your narration. You've definitely earned a subscriber! I am puzzled as to the community status of the people who lived in this house too. Traditionally Mennonites don't allow their pictures to be taken and do not send their children to the sorts of schools that would take school pictures - even the "lax" Mennonites. That being said, there are definitely a lot of possibilities, and your research is spot on, so it leaves a lot of questions. I've a few for you, if you get to them - have you ever found something that just made you insanely uncomfortable or made you want to leave right away? Have you ever stepped through a floor or a stair? (And if you haven't, please keep that trend up and DON'T! I don't want to see you get hurt!) Do any of the houses or buildings you've explored so far qualify as your favorite? Have you ever found something that you sincerely wished you could take with you? Thanks for the amazing work! I'm going to go watch some more of your videos now!
+ThoseCrazyCrunchies I think that you are thinking of Amish, who are actually a splinter group (They split off in the 18th century, but hey...). My family is Mennonite, and none of us- either in Canada or the States, have the restrictions you mention.
***** You are a bit of a stalker aren't you? Be careful or I my need to report you to You Tube, and your mum and dad will be asked to terminate your under-age account. But this would not be classed as vandalism as the property will be demolished or it will be stripped and refurbished and any actions helping to clear the property of rubbish will have no consequence.
***** They are pretty vague but they do may make it clear they don't tolerate stalking. Actually I don't care. But since you are a minor, I am not going to get involved in stalking wars. The other thing to consider is that we should not mess up TikiTrex's Channel with comment wars threads. If you are interested in history check out her channel and you will see it should not be disrespected.
Most mennonites that live in Ontario have electricity etc... the younger ones that i spent a lot of time with in Leamington try very hard to assimilate into western culture, many of their parents wish they didn't tho.
+dawn klug There are many different Mennonite groups, and Amish and Mennonite beliefs are usually not the same at all. They may appear to be similar, but their actual beliefs are different. But again, there are many different Mennonite denominations, and the beliefs can vary quite a bit between Mennonite groups as well.
