I first heard this as a teenager in the 70s, and I have never heard anything else that comes close, such an emotive piece of music it brought tears to my eyes then and it still does now, feel so lucky to have heard all the 70s music, the best decade by far.
Have you heard tarkus, tubular bells, close to the edge, suppers ready or other long songs from the 70s or 60s cause there are a lot of great songs from that time which are very long.
@@adrianwort well you are lucky as hell jajaja. I'm 19 years old and live in Spain so i just know a few people how listen to just normal rock or metal. But to find someone that likes prog rock it's almost impossible. I'm happy that you could live on those times.
Thank you for all the wonderful lyrics Ken Hensley- and thank you David Byron for your lovely voice ! May you both rest in peace! You will always be in my heart, and you will always be legends!
Hi all people. Music have always been a big part of my life, since I was going in first class, most of my friends was like me. As a norwegian I have always been a big fan of the british rock bands, like Deep Purple, Slade, Rolling Stones, Beatles, it's so many of them. But my favourite band was Uriah Heep, Pilgrim, Return to fantasy, July morning, and of course Salisbury, fantastic music.
Incredible beauty, after 50 years. Composition, arrangement, execution. Everything is epic, perfect, with a special mention for Byron vocals, Mick Box guitar and Ken Hensley organ.
When I used to live in Ireland, there was 30min walk from work. I didn't bother taking a bus, so I listened this almost every time. Even after like 200+ listens, its still a great song.
@@skyemacallister1306lol please give me any recommendations for similar stuff; I've never heard anything quite as exquisite as this. Bewitching. (This: coming from a prog/punk rocker who's grandfather was a trumpet player in Big Band - this seems like a combo of my upbringing and the music i like now :o)
Absolutely agree! This is an actual composition of music, pure and raw. 60's and 70's music needed no techno they had talent plain and simple. They knew how to create lasting music.
Heep is one of those bands that made you think as their lyrics told a story. I like a good story and even more so when the backdrop is a group of guys kicking the ass of each instrument, respectively.
Guess I heard this too when I was 16 years old this album of Salisbury this really I kind of got album I really appreciate it I'm 65 now and I still enjoy it
One of my best friends John Kinahan, introduced me to some of the best bands back then including Led Zeppelin, Slade, Queen , Status Quo, and Uriah Heep. The man has great taste in music. Take care wherever you may be John, and good health to you, from your one time next door neighbor, Tim.
Forgot how much i love this track over the years as more music bursts onto the scene, this is still in my collection, been too long since i gave it a listen, thanks for sharing, thanks for stirring my memories.
Powerful stuff. You know it , when you hear it, because you feel it. What a great , unique and fearless band. Thankyou Uriah Heep, for many great memories.
@@markroo6091 Well, you probably didn't grow up with UH then unless your siblings were into them. I'm 51(almost 52) and knew of them because they were mentioned in a rock book but also because John Wetton played with him and I knew of his association to prog because of King Crimson. Also, my ex stepmother knew of them.
I only watched them play live once in the early 70s. Classic line up: M Box, D Byron, K Hensley, G Thain and L Kerslake. Maybe I get another chance to watch them play with the current line up .... I'm waiting for it.
@@markchoma9822 At the same time, there is a 2009 rap song whose infrastructure was prepared using this song. Name: 'Farazi v Kayra - Yayınlanmayan Şarkı'
The whole song is an immortal masterpiece. Mick's solos are just brilliant, Paul Newton's bass lines are superior, Ken's organ parts are fantastic and David's vocals are unsurpassed... This is the song that makes my heart palpitate with stronger beats
Those who think that Uriah Heep was just a hard rock band, or a "sub-Deep Purple" should listen to this track and to the whole album... Uriah Heep were very versatile in their early years and I wish they had gone on in this way... Doing this album after Very 'Eavy Very 'Umble was really courageous, it was a progressive rock album with touches of psychedelism and hard rock... with already a wonderful works on harmony vocals here and there. I just wish they had used strings instead of just brass and woodwinds for this track.
Agree, massively under rated and a very clever band. Never got the accolades of Purple, Zeppelin, Sabbath etc, but in many ways they were musically far more complex than them all. Top UK band, should have achieved so much more success - although at Mote Park a couple of years ago they were simply sensational.
@@andykilvington1651 Actually, they achieved a lot of success but it didn't last. I read from many soources that circa 1972-1977, they sold around 30 millions albums worldwide. I'm not fond of the AOR rock era in the 80's, but since then, they did really strong albums, although there's a big gap during the late 90's, early 2000's. I do like all the recent albums since the great Sea of Light (1995), especially the latest from 2018, Living the Dream
They may have been going by the old mantra that rock groups couldn't use strings in their songs. Sounds like macho BS but it was a "thing" and I'm sure many men.(and some women) strongly believed it. Probably poser Beatles haters with fragile egos and suppressed homosexual tendencies.
I think this track actually preceded Child in Time, which resembles Salisbury hugely. I never understood why so few people noticed it. Child in Time was great, but it doesn't beat Salisbury in richness, nuances and overall message. An probably even in terms of musicianship.
EXELENTE MELODIA E ARRANJOS, INSTRUMENTAL E VOCAL, ALTOS E BAIXOS FAZEM VOCÊ APROFUNDAR EM UMA VIAGEM UNICA E ACORDAR EM PARAISOS DIFERENCIADOS; ESTA É A BANDA URIAH HEEP, INGLESA DA NATA, NÃO TEM IGUAL, ACOSELHO A CONHECER OUTRAS MUSICAS E OBRAS DSSA BAND, UNICA.
As a U.S citizen I have always admired the Heep and the sonic magic they created - - like who?? Maybe ELP - altogether amazing - utterly orchestral - "Come away Melinda" always plucks on my souls
Hi everyone. This song is a masterpiece, I have been a Uriah Heep fan since 75, its built up very special, with all instruments in a high speed, and between this is David Byron's beautiful voice.
Awesome. Uriah Heep might be the most unappreciated Band of the 70s... You can hear so many later bands in their music yet I have never herd them get credit. I hear, Dio, Purple, Jesus Christ Super Star, and plenty more... super funky.... super trippy.
I rememnber at Letchworth College sadly no longer there we were asked to bring in music albums of our favorite tracks. I bought this one in and played and others weren't ready for it. Also this as well as Yes were as far as I remember were the only time on TV program Top of the Pops when a single album track took up the whole program on a single song. :)
If you love David Byron's vocals, look up his side project from 1974 with the German Progressive Rock band Lucifer's Friend. The album Banquet." Especially the epic song Spanish Galleon.
@@a.ritchie1525 Your wrong, David Byron never worked with Lucifers Friend, it was John Lawton. And this is the very best Example, for him beeing an very good singer, because you' ve mixed it up with John Lawton, 🤷♀️
A wah-wah master: the great Mick Box. And, they left those clicks in. Like the man cocking his pistol before three displays of superior marksmanship. Kinda like the middle one myself.
This recording is amazing. It is so musically well balanced and the group and orchestra is really one unit. Very impressive! The melody in the beginning played by the oboe, is one of the most beautiful melodies ever recorded. It is a pitty they did not use that part more times in the song.
