Founded in 1948, the object of the Society is to promote and encourage model engineering of all kinds, and to bring together people interested in the hobby.
The Society operates a miniature railway in Abbotsfield Park, Chassen Road, Flixton, in the Borough of Trafford, Manchester on most Sundays throughout the year, and on some Bank Holidays, weather permitting. The railway is a continuous circuit of 2200 feet (670 metres) of raised track comprising both 3½” and 5″ gauges. It is one of the largest elevated tracks in the country.

I lived at number 8 Chassen overlooking the railway,it was only a small oval track when I was a kid.

Funny, you can take the lad out of Manchester but 40 years later RU-vid still sends him random links to the track he rode on as a kid...so many years (and 1000’s of miles away) later

Nice to see RAOC loco. My dad was CRAOC at the drill hall on Flixton rd late 50s early 60s. if I remember correctly, the fare you charged was 1p per circuit! I was even a member for a short while! So many fond memories. I was just a teenager then! I see that your club is one year younger than me!!!!

Splendid! Especially LMS 6238 "City of Carlisle". Be nice if there were plans/blueprints available for these engines and associated rolling stock. After all, if you're gonna be a gear head, best to be a Victorian gear head.

Nice to see a Jenny Lind in HD, shame it wasn't running. Problems it seems.

Hi DAKOTA56777, the Jenny Lind was having a hydraulic boiler test which it passed, the problem was the owner forgot to bring the grate so couldn't steam it. I hope to return to Urmston and capture the engine running at some point.

LMS4767 Ah I see, and I'll be looking forward to seeing it run, the only other Jenny Lind video I've found on youtube seems to have been recorded with a potato. I was thinking of getting a casting kit for one from Reeves as my first ground up build after I finish working on an old Mabel upscaled to 5inch gauge that I got mostly complete, but in needing of an overhaul. So it's certainly nice to see what the finished engine would look like in high quality.

(14:12) & (14:39) Are only these two the hope of the club?

pega17pl 14.39. That's Jeanne Walker. Her mum's Diane Carney the editor of Model Engineer Magazine.

I also think if young people are attracted to Steam they tend to gravitate to the full size . Steam railways and traction engines. It's a lot easier to progress on these for young people than it used to be.
