Ursa Mini Pro 12K OLPF Footage | Camera test

Here is a quick test shot on the brand new Ursa Mini Pro 12K OLPF. Seems like the Ursa 12K got even better with this new filter. IR pollution is also improved and this is pretty noticeable in my opinion. I never really had any moire or aliasing issues my with original 12K, but this is definitely a welcome feature that will help prevent artifacts in the footage. More footage coming soon! Everything was shot using my Leica R 35mm f/2.8 with a 1/4 Tiffen BPM filter. 8K 12:1 BRAW at 48p.
Edited and graded in DaVinci Resolve 18.5 using BUTTERY Natural Rec709 LUT.

NOTE: DaVinci 18.4.1 won't read the files from the Ursa OLPF unfortunately. This was very confusing for me, but Blackmagic confirmed it. So if you are planning to get an Ursa 12K OLPF, be sure that you are ok with jumping on the beta version of DaVinci 18.5.

1:01 -- That shot is AMAZING! I wish it was on longer. There's something so amazing and refreshing about seeing 'walk around' footage of Italy... and with this music, it feels like the "Before" trilogy.

I own 6kpros, I'm almost ready to switch on FX3 and... Each time I see footages from Blackmagic... It's different, less digital, skin tones etc. ARG! Blackmagic does great job f*ck! And you too ahah

Don't switch to an FX3. Add it along side for when your shoot requires AF. You will miss the BM cameras dearly if you sell them. Having one smaller camera with reliable AF is becoming almost a requirement, really opens up what you can do as a small crew.

@@jessecumberledge4530 thanks for this tip, my heart balance between getting a fx3+6 combo or keep my 2 6kpros I love, but everyfuckin one shoot their RU-vid videos/corporate with FX line. So to be reliable/employable it's almost a plus. Fuck it. I will keep my blackmagics, I just miss the AF.

@@TLFILMS For creative projects (short films, fashion vids, commercials), I utilize my Irsa 12k. For corporate gigs like ( reality show, talking heads, promo vids), I rent out Sony Fx6/Fx3. I hope that helps you out.

This camera handles tough lighting conditions beautifully. I see no reason in investing in a more expensive alternative.

I found that using the Q3 recording compression in 4K/8K along with IR cut filter gave similar results. It would be interesting to pixel peep both version of the URSA 12K to see the difference though.

@@matteobertoli I notice that too on my regular Ursa 12K. I shoot in super bright light with plenty of exposure and there's still noise dancing around. I don't understand it. I love the image, though, it has a beautiful tone to it, but I shouldn't have to have noise in a sunny outdoor scene.

@@ronineditor9920 It's simple - bigger sensor (with more pixels), more noise/less sensitivity and vice versa....That's why for example SOny a73 with 12 Megapixels sensor has amazing low light performance and no noise comparing to sony a7r series for example.....

LOL. IMO, when a PRO operates the camera is the best way to evaluate it. If not, for me, it's like putting a bad quality glass to a great cinema camera, it's gonna look bad and it doesn't allow you to see really its features. When those who really know what they're doing about cinematic lighting and how to operateit, it is when you can witness more artistically how it performs beside of technical specs.

the image looks amazing I thibk the olpf filter works really well, but they have done somthing like noise reduction intenally, seems that the camera dose not have that nice raw texture anymore... have you use noise reduction in post production?

Hi Matteo, I just discovered your channel and wow, this is probably the best cinematography I've seen on RU-vid so far. Every single shot looks so incredibly clean and cinematic. You could literally make a wallpaper out of every frame of this video, even though it's all natural lighting. May I ask how you shot all of this? Did you use a gimbal or is it handheld?

Would like to see how much better this is compared to a Schneider hot mirror variant on a standard 12k. Sure the images look good but on youtube I really can’t see a difference vs 12k without the low pass filter. Or whatever filter brand that does the same thing.

Hellop, I like your works and seen some filmic material. But this test seems very videoish. Almost like a broadcast ENG camera. It surprises me since you used your Leica lens and pro mist. But also the texture of the movement is unfilmic. What could have happened. Some fps and shutter combination? And maybe the LUT should be refined for this new sensor-OLPF combination?

Does anyone know if the Blackmagic OLPF will be sold separately? How can current 12K users get this modification? How much does the proprietary Blackmagic OLPF differ from Rawlite OLFP for Ursa 12K?

Yes, Blackmagic can upgrade a standard 12K it costs $650 plus one way shipping to their service center. They add the filter, reshim the mount and update the software.

So if I'm not mistaken this is essentially the same as the original 12k with the only change being the OLPF filter. I wonder if Blackmagic will offer this filter to install into those of us who have the original since you can install a Rawlite OLPF filter into the original. This should be possible. Both models are for sale for the same price because Grant Petty mentioned when introducing the new 12k that people may want to choose the older model. I don't understand that statement.
