That was not his actual burial, that was a memorial service done at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio Texas. He also had a memorial service at Ft. Bragg North Carolina. The Colonel was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. My father the late SGM Benito V. Guerrero attened the service in San Antonio and flew to D.C. When Colonel Howard was laid to rest. My father and Colonel Howard were good friends. SGM Guerrero is the one interviewing Colonel Howard at the beginning of this video. My father passed away about 5 months after Colonel Howard. They don't make em like that anymore. God bless them and those like them.

He was a "Legend-in-his-own-time." His greatest deed was done after the war when eh helped rebuild Special Forces at Camp McCall by raising the standards for both officers and enlisted.

Really is there anyone worthy to pay all honors deserved. Put in for the Congressional Medal of Honor three times. The only thing fitting would have been if God himself preformed funeral honors. This man is truly one of the greatest Americans to have ever lived.

On the Thumbnail photo my Grandfather is behind Bob Howard and Eldon Bargewell. Hes the one smiling. He was a Recon Marine during the late 60s and early 70s. He left Vietnam with a Silver Star, 2 Purple Hearts, and an Air Medal with a V Device. He died 20 years ago and this video after seeing the thumbnail opened a door of stuff to learn about him. I always thought he was just an Avionics Marine working on the flight deck but apparently not.

I am appalled that someone used 4 unlike for any veterans, especially Ranger Bob L Howard. He was one of the greatest hero of our kind, most decorated soldier hands down. As Americans we should be ashamed to even think this man does deserve your respect. He sacrificed his live for this country and we need to recognize our true heroes. But I forgot some many people live to party and only have selfish ways in this country, if he was alive today he would shame on you taking the easy way out and not giving a damn for a soldier, no wonder we are treated badly at the VA, they hire quacks to run it when they do not truly care about our veterans only quotas.

Jonathan thank you for your comments and passion for our vets. After retiring the Col. worked at the VA for a number of years and would object to your comments. The VA is not perfect, but it is far better having former active duty personnel such as the Col. stepping up to make things better.
@jonathanjones7841
@jonathanjones7841 6 лет назад
Yes, the VA is better than it was before, but to many men are waiting on Red tape to get their benefits and help they need in return we lose 22 day waiting on politicians who think they know better than us. But the Col. did say he hates reporters and politicians.

I had to stop and make a comment. That burial detail is a sad lot. Especially for a MOH recipient. No snap and attention to detail. It's like they dragged a bunch of guys out of the mess hall for this. Sloppy

Simple minded notions, that have NO bearing on reality in this day & age. During the Vietnam Conflict combat exposure was limited, and GI benefits were considerable. Today combat exposure is infinite, and GI benefits are all but nonexistant. We fight like a bunch of creeps, that don't know what we are doing most of the time. War Criminal MERCENARIES run amok all over the place, for a thousand dollars a day with impunity. What this old GI says, just is no longer the case.
