Stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door! Jump right out and count to four. If my chute dont open wide, i got another one by my side. If that one should fail me too, look out below Im a comin through!
M. Redleg I had a malfunction called “Flame “ in my third jump. Opened the other one... My nick name was Flame since that.... ( 1988/89 Italian Folgore ). Have a good day!
I was a paratrooper back in the day. One time i caught a "hop" on an air force plane. (A "hop" was sort of a free flight for personal purposes.) Anyway, an Air Force officer came back to give me a safety briefing. He asked me, "Have you ever flown on an Air Force flight, before?" I answered, "Yes. Many times. I've just never landed in one." He looked at my chest, saw my airborne wings, and said, "We'll try to make this a first for you."
Reminds me of that “I shouldn’t be alive” episode where the dude jumps out of the plane over the ocean with a parachute because he trusted it more than the plane lol
@Cue ball SEE, this the Douglas C-47s used in ww2 where so much better! They were so rickety that paratroopers were too busy puking their guts out to fall asleep! BRING THE VOMIT COMETS BACK!
Not sure what it is about the 2 commands "standby" and when I hear "green light go" it's like the fear melts away and I do what I'm trained to do. Maybe it's seeing everyone else in front of me move without hesitation.
@@JokerX126 The command "Standby means you move to the ready position, you are literally waiting for the command GO at this point. This is the beauty about a training exercise regimen: step by step i is something we all went through!
No matter how many times we jumped, for me, this was always the most nerve-racking part. I was always like "let's GO already!" All of the staging at the hanger and waiting to exit aircraft gave me too much time to think about what I was about to do. Lol
SoldierMike6ft2 I could ask my recruiter but I don’t want to sound like a pussy. I’m signing up for infantry in a few months. Do you know if I’d have to jump out of a plane like this? Don’t know if I’d be able to handle it.
@@Badcomedy1 That's called a "Static Line." Its purpose is to snatch the parachute bag (green) open so that the parachute itself can open up once the guys jump out the airplane.
@@carsonbarrett1923 Wow, I am JUST NOW getting notification of your question. No, going to airborne school and jumping out of a airplane is voluntary. As long as you don't get assigned to an Airborne Unit, you will not be required to jump out of an airplane.
@@deltaecho1 There's someone told me that it's like waiting more than 2 hours in a bus in a hot day, and the air conditioning is not working. You want to jump as soon as possible lol.
They were lucky! My parents had to jump out of a much smaller and less reliable aircraft with only one engine. And the doorway was too small to stand up!
When the plane said "fffrrrffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffphphphphphphpphphphphphphphphpffffffffffffffvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvffffffffffffffffffffvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv" I felt that.
No not really. You are so hyped up from your training that it is like going out the door thirty feet from the ground. I always wanted to get it over, because I would get physically sick on the plane ride up to jump altitude. Once I left the door it all went away.............All I prayed for was no trees...... 2Bn - 327th PIR - 101st ABN - VN
that two second difference makes a huge difference. My unit was one of the first ones to use them as they were coming out and we had people popping the reserve cause they were use to the 4 second drop. Falling six is a long ass time and covered a lot of space. Bulkier chute and bigger reserve made everything that more uncomfortable. The only good thing out of it was that it made landing a bit smoother.
I was at Bragg , 84-87 I was in the combat aviation unit as a door gunner. Always love to jump , miss it a lot. I was in my early 20’s and had a lot of good friends ( brothers and sisters) I served with , miss them a lot too. Thanks to the Women and men at Bragg and Pope Air Force Base for your service, highly appreciated. AIRBORNE!!! 💯🇺🇸🦅
The jump master in this video, SSG Mesch, was my drill sergeant in basic training at Fort Benning in 2010. He was probably the most respected DS in our platoon. Very professional and very disciplined guy. Don’t let his lack of a combat patch fool you. He had multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan even back then.
Small world brother I was in the same battalion with him at Bragg an old buddy and I were just talking about him a couple weeks ago so when I saw the thumbnail I had to click on it
weather guy: *whispers* "sir, we have 32 knot winds. We have to scratch the jump." *5 minutes later* Jumpmaster: "Chalk 101 on your feet! Five knot winds! Perfect jumping weather! Let's go!"
This isn't all that bad it's a day time with what looks like little to no wind. You get in the middle of the line and you kind of get pushed out with the flow of guys. You come to the door hand off your cord take a left or right depending what side of the plane your on and when you get the end of the ramp give a little hop, then it's chin to chest, arms tight at your sides legs together and a slight bend in your back count to 4, you don't feel the opening shock form your main by 4 pull your reserve. and that's it in a nut shell. Your main opens and you float down to earth like a feather, just steer way form the bigger rock on the ground the best you can.
Yea, ok Leg. That's what it looks like in the movies. Hand off your "cord?" "Float down like a feather," at 18-22 feet per second? "Steer?" Go back to playing COD.
Leg? 1 I was being sarcastic you shit for brains. 2 I'll put money on that I have more jumps in the 82nd than you do in whatever made up Airborne Division you come up with.
I don't know if mrrossn has jumped or not, but he's right that it's less terrifying than it looks. I've done 4 static line jumps like this, except non-military, where you have to sit in the doorway of the Cessna, then step out onto the top of the landing gear, reach both hands (1 at a time) out to the wing strut. Then when the jumpmaster says GO, you take a big sideways leap out into the air. You would not want to do it without any ground training, but after you've practiced all the moves, and the "Pull reserve chute?" decision, and some jumps off a picnic table to figure out your footing, it's OK.
Bless you all Men!! Airborne all the way!! It's been over 46 years since my first jump!! I still feel like I could jump today!! Special days!! I miss them so much! Your all in my thoughts and prayers! Fair winds! Doug
jonathan white That's funny that you think a "can of whup-ass" originates from a Family Guy episode, actually it's been around a VERY long time, and if it was connected to any cartoon it'd be Popeye.
SF, Ranger, Pathfinder, CIB, and Master Jumper and commissioned officer. Also wouldn't be surprised if he was prior enlisted.......... I would love to see you say that to him lol.
When I do it my mind just goes blank as soon as I hand off my static line and next thing I know my parachute is open above me and I’m just floating to the ground
I mean even if i really dident wnat to i dont wana be the one guy who dident jump right away, its also timed so it would mess things up that would be so imbarising
I usually jump 1-2 times a week. It is an everyday thing really. Static line jumps are at super low altitudes like 800-1200ft...if your main chute doesn’t deploy you pretty much have no time to pull your reserve. So pull that shit if you even think there’s a chance you’re falling too fast. It’s pretty fun actually. Probably the best feeling you’ll ever have after your 1st jump.
I went to airborne school and watching this still makes my palms sweat. The anxiety you feel going up in the plane is more than enough to make you wanna jump out ASAP.
My first jump ft bening. Third one out the door c130 scared shitless. Thought we are bot going to jump green light first guy vanished oh hell it just got real im being pushed from behind out i go hard landing but got to do it again in 30 mins fk
You can see by his galaxy brain that this LT does not put the letters L and T in the word lost. What you are witnessing in his eyes is the pure hatred he has for hand receipts, all manners of DA forms and the horror that is composite risk management and 6 sigma.
Ramp exits are actually way nicer to do than out the door. Out the ramp you just kinda fall straight down. Out the door you get whipped sideways at 130 kts.
@@YEETMAN-dt9mb yes and no. I’ve never jumped a C-17. With a C-130 there is prop wash and it does feel like you are being tumbled a bit but the sensation is kinda Zero-G while also a hurricane is hitting you. I don’t think the jet wash from a C-17 is much worse than the forward velocity.
You can really smell the kerosene/jp6 when the door gets opened. Out the troop door is fun like sticking your hand out the car window but it’s your whole body. Walking off the ramp is fun but a little more stressful because shit can go wrong................ ......... like when you go out the troop doors.
I've been there - 58 times. 101st 1972-1976. This gave me the chills and put a smile on my face at the same time just watching this. Way to go 82nd!!!!
My father served in the 82nd, served in Vietnam and was on standby for anything to erupt in the Cuban Missile Crisis. Glad to see our boys are still in the air. All the way!
Cotton Mouth because we are in the single most peaceful time in the history of the world and the US keeps ruining it. We are the most powerful force on the planet why the FUCK are we killing civilians, radicalizing their families into ISIS and shit and then killing them too? What threat do they pose to us?
Terra Crincoli You know we aren’t the only country in the Middle East right? Russia, France, Britain, Canada, just to name off afew. The whole world is trying to get rid of terrorist organizations
Cotton Mouth yeah thats because, once again, theres fucking oil there and we are an empire stretching out to take resources. The others are following suit!
I'm digging the unit patch for 8th Airlift Squadron! I've always been a fan of unit patches created by the sarcastic assholes as they always bring humor into it!
Yeah, but close your eyes and imagine a different scenario: night time, AAA shooting all around you, maybe an engine on fire, and the pilot saying "everybody get out RTF NOW!!". Much different from that controlled environment, uh?
My brother is a former airborne and he personally told me that the generation before us that went through world war 2 all the way to Korea were a breed of their own todays paratroopers would not have the same mindset we are in such a controlled and easy going environment compared to the good old glory days
My great grandfather fought with the airborne divisions during ww2. He started out in the 82nd and was transferred to the 101st for the rest of the war after the Invasion of Sicily. He was on the Invasion of Sicily, D-Day, Operation Market Garden, Battle of The Bulge, and even went to a German concentration camp in Czechoslovakia towards the end of the war. HE even got a German P0-8 Luger after the German’s surrendered their weapons to the Allies after the war.
America doesn't have the monopoly on democracy. The Greeks beat you to it over 2000 years ago. The Constitution/BoR is a footnote in the history of democracy.
My son is in the Army. He has only begun his journey into Basic Training. He will do this as well. Oh wow!! This was really neat to watch! This sure takes alot of guts to do.
Nothing better than being Airborne in Peace time. Nice fun jumps, good altitude and the chance to get another line written up in your log book. Try being a Rhodesian Light Infantry soldier in the 1975 - 1979 conflict. 30, 40 or so operational jumps going out the door of a C47 with a P10 chute on your back at 450/500ft, throwing 20 guys out the door in 13 seconds. One particular stick in 2 Cdo jumped into action twice in a day. That’s why we are still legendary 40 years later. “death from the Sky - RLI”. Respect to all those around the world who wear those converted wings from an old para from a world that time should never forget.💪💪🪂🪂
Yo man . I just play the video again and again but I was unable to find "get off my plane" . And now I read your comment and realized that It was just the title.
This brings back good and bad memories. I was in the 82nd airborne division also I was a Ranger. It’s fun when you jumped in a non combat zone. When you jump in Iraq or Afghanistan that is a different story. I lost 3 of my brothers in arms at the war. Now a day my body is paying the price for all those jumps and deployments. Proud to be a former airborne Ranger.
Having been there myself, I can tell you this is a rare jump! Most jumps are Zero-Dark-Thirty, like as in 1 or 2am with people racing out the door to beat the red light. If there's no follow on DZ Mission afterwards, then it's chute turn in, weapons turn in followed by final formation at your unit HQ. Then it's off to the Waffle House just outside Bragg on Yadkin Road if memory serves me right, in Fayetteville where you and your buddies re-tell the same story about the jump over a really early breakfast! Best of all, your first formation is not til 1330 hours that day! Them were the days!!
Am I the only jump master who leaned in with the camera when it dipped into the door after the last jumper exited? I was trying to count open canopys again! Lmao!
Gung Ho Vids That's right! Even though my duty is done, I miss the jumping. I miss the adrenaline rush of leaning out of the plane and sending my 64 killers through the door!
