I have done several deals with Leighton and the one time we needed a spreadsheet, our numbers were strikingly similar. He is simply one of the most fair and reasonable dealers around.

Amazing collection! I’m collecting (or want) many of those same cards. Also, in that 61 Fleer set is the Elgin Baylor RC that is probably the 4th or 5th biggest card. The Russell 2nd year is either before or after it.

Thats an awesome collection. As a michael jordan collector the rookie card of choice is star and those were all nice one's. Start collecting now and you will have a collection like this one in 20 years. All these cards were cheaper to buy back then. I wish i would of bought more. Sad day when you have to get rid of your collection. Great story and collection.

Would be interesting to know what the buyer paid to assemble it all, what Leighton paid to purchase it, and what the collection is worth - of course, I don't blame the seller, nor Leighton, for keeping their 'cards' close to their chest, as it's non of our business... but I find the financial side interesting. Another great AFS. 😃 Have a great weekend, Mike, and all viewers. 👍

That's an unbelievable collection 😮 I wish I was able to keep all the iconic cards I've handled over the years but life dictated otherwise. The two I regret most was my 1983 Donruss Ryne Sandberg SGC 10 (Pop 6 at the time) & my 1914 B-18 Blankets Ty Cobb White Infield BGS 5.5 (POP 1 NO HIGHER) both of which I personally had graded. Seeing collections like this reminds me of all the successes I've had along the way. Great video btw! 🤟

There are upwards of 10 Michael Jordan Star cards that are legit licensed cards that predate the 86 fleer. The star card is definitely the true rookie. Just like the 51 Bowman Mantle. The “they weren’t sold in packs” argument just doesn’t hold water IMO. They were licensed cards. When it all settles out the Star card will be much much more valuable. It’s actually rare.
@leightonsheldon9469
@leightonsheldon9469 3 месяца назад
I agree with your points but the 1986 fleer is much more mainstream and widely known. Since Star wasn’t distributed in packs it’s lacking that nostalgia feeling for many collectors. Do you think that will matter in the long term ? And I don’t ever see the 51 bowman mantle being worth more than the 52 topps even though it’s his true rookie

Great video, Mike. Fantastic collection! 🤩 Wonderful background story. I enjoy the Just Collect channel as well. I would love to have a Jordan STAR card. I remember seeing STAR cards back in high school, but collecting just wasn’t an interest at the time. Thanks for sharing this one with us.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing as always. I like the Jim Brown and the Trout rookie. I had the Trout in a green parallel, but traded it away for practically nothing in 2013 because it had a scratch.....this was pre-Kurt's Card Care.....LOL (kidding - only micro cloth wipes for me). Have a great one!

I have the 48, 57, and 61 sets, missing most of the keys, and the high # 48’s are tough. Every time I get a key on Ebay, it’s been returned by the ebay authentication with issues. Anecdotally, in 1988 you could still buy an 86 fleer set, no stickers, for $24.99, at a card shop. I got the last one that day. Vintage Basketball card collecting is harder.

Impressive collection! Thanks for the info on the safe Mike, I have been thinking of getting one. I am always interested in what people put in a safe deposit box. Is it just the highest value or the most meaning to the person? I grabbed 4 cards from Mike as well. I excited for the lineage and to say I got a couple of cards from the Bluejacket66 basement collection. Best card for sure is the Mikan. I can remember doing endless Mikan drills as a kid playing basketball.

Unless there is a pressing need for immediate cash, I'm amazed that these people don't take any semi-decent card in their collection and just send it to comc. Honestly, it isn't a lot of work. And then just try to sell the bulk stuff to a local dealer for whatever you can get.

Keep THIS in mind regarding a bank safety deposit box: 1. Many banks don't even offer them or have them. Why? Because they take up "valuable" real-estate....per the bank. OLD banks often do have them downtown in their OLDER branches..... 2.During COVID - they DID NOT let us have access to our safety deposit box....and THAT ALONE is why WE pulled EVERYTHING out from our safety deposit box after COVID was over. 3.Yes - the safety deposit box MAY be fireproof..but IS it WATERPROOF? You NEED to find that out... I and my wife ONCE had 2 large safety deposit boxes ( they were as large as being able to fit 4 pizza boxes EACH). We were paying $1500 a year at the end. We got out eventually. Regarding our own little PRIVATE, non-business, safety deposit box...refer to comments 1 through 3 above.... Side note: Back in the old days, Uncle Sam let you write off the annual cost of your safety deposit box .....however NO MORE.
