Russia produces all the weapons we do, and often they are better, at one tenth the cost. The reason for this is they have a real president who runs things for the interest of the country. In contrast, the military-industrial complex runs the US government. It makes super expensive weapons in low volumes and gets filthy rich doing it. We have a corrupt government here.

Its hard yakka i worked on navy ship construction back in 1997 welder fabricator pipe fitter ,it wrecked my knees lungs from the dust worst job i ever had for the money i would of been better off working at wall mart.And it was a lot of rework done and a job for mates who did very little and were made leading hands due to sucking up ,while the real workers went out the door, no wonder its in decline. I would not open my tool box for under 65 an hour after After changing my job, back in the day.

California and New York have the highest cost of living in the country. California is so screwed up you can't use it as a meaningful benchmark for such comparisons. If you do your job well and show up every day, you will advance to top pay much faster. Welding jobs in shipyards have valuable benefits that minimum wage jobs do not. Let that sink in.

Worked 30 years for new construction and repairing navy ships. Hardest job I ever had, most dangerous job I ever had. Still have my arms and legs, fingers but horrible work conditions, I would not wish that job on my worst enemy.

The median salary for a ship welder in the US is $57k a year before tax, roughly $47k after tax. It works out that this very tough job pays a median income of $22 per hour for a 40 hour week. Compare that to flipping burgers in California which now pays a minimum wage of $20 per hour. Do we see the problem?

Today's young men don't want any job that requires physical labor, or get their hands dirty. They've been groomed from a young age to sit in front of a computer, play games and socialize. Few have been exposed to simple tools nor have any interest. Many schools have discontinued shop classes due to lack of interest. Few young men today can actually build or repair anything, or will even try. No wonder finding skilled labor is so difficult.

If the pentagon was ever forced to actually submit a budget - as is required by law - maybe the American people would be better positioned to understand where all of that money is going (Hint: endless regime change wars). They accomplished exactly what they wanted to, and any competent military analyst would have understood the implications of what happened. I worked in a shipyard. I worked in a steel mill. I worked for a major auto mfr. Our country closed many shipyards down along with our steel mills and auto assy plants.. Basically we shot ourselves in our own foot by the elimination of a lot of our heavy industries. Now look where we are at. Serving fake burgers and greasy fries out a drive through window to an under-employed, government subsidized workforce driving up to that window in an imported vehicle. SMH, poor long-term national planning got us in this shape! Want a shake to go with that garbage? Just hide and watch, we are about ready to wear it on that imported shirt we are wearing.
