Patton competed in the Modern Pentathlon in the 1912 Olympics. The events included horseback riding, cross-country running, fencing, swimming, and pistol shooting.
"We were so tired of death and destruction; we wanted to do something beautiful." I'm not a WWII vet, I'm a GWOT Marine and that actually hit me really hard.
Trout out here saying how he's afraid of horses, but on the last Unsub podcast, talks about how he brought in all of Lawyer Jake's horses and cows before a hail storm, when nobody had successfully brought them all in before. You can't fool me, cowboy! I see your spurs!
Oh! I have heard of this before. They had captured the Lippizaner Stallions- they weren’t just dressage horses. They were bred for war and considered the finest war horses on Earth. They still tour today and are beautiful to watch.
One German grandmother told me what happened when the red army came into their town. Her mother told her and her younger sister to go hide in the woods. Her younger sister said, "I'm too young, they won't touch me.". She was twelve. Her sister recognized her screams from 5 kilometers away...
Most likely the same thing happened to whatever family I had left in Germany, great great grand dad was tank driver, after he surrendered to the Americans, and he was eventually released, went back, and was never able to find his wife and 3 daughters.
I thought I knew everything there is to know about WWII. I did not know about this. Thanks for sending me into spiraling depression an hour before heading to an MLB game with my kids.
Glad to surprise lol. My grandma’s parents were from the Austrian-Czech border region where this took place and fled to America before the N*zis came to power so I’m really interested in WWII history in that area.
Thanks mang. New vid coming soon. As lame as it sounds- liking, commenting, and sharing vids fr helps. I love making these and would love for it to grow.
@@king_troutThe internet is hungry for content like this, that's why the Fat Electrician took off, and following him is how I found you lol, you both recently being on Unsubscribe and such. I mean Unsubscribe can be pretty hit or miss depending, but there are some real jems like yourself and Nic that get more exposure out of it, keep it coming.
This channel is like finding a diamond while cleaning your cat's litter, you don't know how or why it's there, you're just glad you found something wonderful despite sifting through a lot of sh*t.
Hell yeah I finally found your channel and one of the first videos I see is Operation Cowboy, a Video I wanted Fat Electrician to cover and now I get Royalty to cover it, lets go!
"You do not want to hear what they were doing to the woman and children." Communism my friend, communism is what they did to those poor civilians. To anyone who that sounds like a the Russians were being nice, either your history teacher failed you, or you blatantly ignored them.
Came here looking for a serious, epic documentary. Stayed for the hilarious commentary. I’m a horse lover and a history nerd, so this is right up my street.
Well done. Love your short content and your long form. Keep it up! Also, I think Operation Gladio might be a good one, along with MKUltra (if you do decide to do this, obligatory king_trout didn’t kill himself)
So glad I was watching the Unsubscribed Podcast and was like who the hell is this dude...... Well many of your videos later... Glad I checked. Keep up the great work man. Like yo style! Hope that helped stroke the algorithm a lil 😂
Fun fact about Lipizzan horses: They had a touring company that did performances in the US (probably worldwide), until RU-vid was invented. Attendance to the horse balet plummeted. The horses were sent back to Chechoslovakia or something, where they were eaten by descendants of the Red army.😢
Genuinely thought this was gonna be about castle itter gald it wasn’t I’ve heard the tale so many times by different people I have near heard of this story
Considering the iconic image of the cowboy and his horse, it is no surprise any real American would do anything to save good horses who did no wrong. It's the one other way to make a U.S soldier have a John Whick reaction.
Came looking to see what you were all about after the recent Unsubscribe podcasts, I see you don't have a lot of content yet but this is good, I subscribed just to keep an eye on whether or not you put up more like this. Kudos. Keep it coming. :) You could be like Fat Electrician 2.0 or something, tho kinda backwards because I only found out about Unsubscribe because FE was on there...and Mighty Jingles had mentioned FE was hilarious...it was a pretty contrived order of events.....
Dressage was born out of officer horse riding back in the day, the funny horse dance was a way for the officers to move giving orders and what not while keeping that regal inspiring look about them. Stupid yes but a good number of military traditions were all about that kinda non-sense as well. Interesting little bit of human history still being kept alive though and it is a highly skilled thing that requires near telepathic bond with the horse to move exactly as needed or asked by the rider. Kills your back and thighs to do it as well so it's an actual physical sport to boot.
Towards the end of the war there was lots of cases of the German military helping Americans, the other famous story was of prisoners being held at a castle that were to be executed, German units surrendered then assisted Americans in capturing the castle and saving the prisoners.
It seems as time goes on I keep finding out about more times there were germans teaming up with the Americans to fight the Nazis in the middle of WW2. So far I have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s curious one of them involved stealing a bunch of horses.
The SS also contined Germany's Foreign Legion, so they got a lot of people whit massive grudges against the USSR. That's how Larry Thorn, a polish dude whose original name i can't reliably spell ended up in th US Special Forces all the way into Vietnam.
Your voice and mustache gives me urges to start a revolution and gather skilled scientists and machinists to replicate military grade nuclear weapons technology for uh, education purposes.
Gotta be honest, if i was an American related to one of those soldiers who got killed id be pretty pissed that my (insert familial relationship here) died for some rich dudes fucking horses.
