Always follow your videos for the fishing. I will admit, having retired from the Air Force and not lived on Long Island for more than 30 years I love learning about the different history of the Island. The end of this video was fascinating and an awesome little treat. I plan on checking out that history of Fort Tyler. Very well done, thank you for sharing....

My Grumman test pilot neighbor used to call it “the castle.” I remember sailing past it in the 70’s and it had blue practice Snakeeye bombs stuck in it from target practice.

I fished plum gut and the ruins for more than 30 years. When I was a kid you could still see many of the individual rooms on the fort. Time, weather, and Hurricane sandy did a tremendous amount of damage to it. The original fort was built prior to the revolutionary war. Getting past the blues in those waters is work.

Sometimes the fish aren't there, but the ocean life is fascinating. We go trolling for marlin here in Japan, and there are days where there's nothing going on bite wise, but then a whale shows up, or a big sunfish, or whatever. It makes the day worthwhile, and fun. While we want to hook up, there are other things that are great, too. Cool underwater drone video. 👍

When my grandfather first moved out to Shelter Island and fished those waters. The Airforce was still using the ruins as a bombing target.

Wow it's a shame that fort didn't get to be turned into a park. It was probably really cool and would have been a neat destination. I've been to Fort Jefferson in The Dry Tortugas out in the Gulf Of Mexico. I recommend you take a trip out there when you're in Florida. It's a National Park with a big fort like a castle with a mote. You can camp on the beach and walk around the old fort and fish all around. And you can fish in the park in deep water where commercial fishermen can't go. There are all sorts of grouper and snapper and other reef fish you can catch on hooks. The diving is good too. If you can get out there I think you'll like it and make some good videos.

You make great videos. Really. I wish someone in my area made content with your quality. I'm by the Chesapeake Bay and you have taught me some stuff about flounder/fluke. I don't get a chance to use the vertical jigging knowledge much though. Are you still catching flatties up there? We still have some but it seems like they're starting to thin out. I saw a bird with 2 small ones today. We have a bunch of small speckled trout and redfish around right now. Everyone says that the keepers are coming soon. I'm ready. This year I want to catch my first stripers. I've been here a year now and it's time to figure them out.

Hey skinner, how’s the bunker population in the sound been this year? I remember last year u were saying there was a real shortage of adult bunker in the area you fish. It’s Been a little slow in the surf by me, a week and a half ago I had a some kind of small slam of a striper a bluefish a weakfish and a fluke all in the middle of the night as they were gorging on spearing but than it got quiet quick the next few days, than I was out the other night in the middle of that northeast blow and there was suddenly toooooons of 4-6inch juvenile bunker but unfortunately after many hours of fishing I didn’t find a single fish on them, should start turning on very sooon tho and hopefully b4 a storm comes around and pushes the bait on its way. Also hoping all those sandeels that hatched up in the sound this year keep the fish around or produce a good run of late season fish on the south shore sand beaches. Awesome underwater footage, I always really enjoy that, keep up the great work

There are none. I saw one school go by in June. That's it. I look at the water from the top of the bluff multiple times a day in addition to fishing. Beach fishing has been the worst since I moved out here 7 years ago.

some tides are 5 feet of water top high to bottom of low, others are 3 feet top high to bottom low....a 3 foot tide runs slower, i.e. soft tide

Hey there I had a question about soft plastics, I recently picked up a few packs of zoom trick worms in white yellow and a shad pattern I was wondering if bass worms are effective at catching anything in saltwater I also picked up some of those googan drop shot worms

Soft plastics are great on striped bass and weakfish, but people typically use profiles like grubs and jerk shads as opposed to worms.

The Googan drop shot worms should work for flounder/fluke on a jig head when they're eating sand eals. I'm sure redfish/drum would bite them and I don't see why speckled trout wouldn't hit them. You should definitely put some ProCure scent on them. The tails will probably get chewed off. The drop shot bait isn't really very different from the Z Man Trout Trick, and they catch saltwater fish. I don't know about the trick worms.

Thank for the video. Always curious above and below sea level there, and always wanted to tog that area. I looked at the museum link and wondered who those visitors were. In 1905 they had a boat, the time, packed a picnic and a camera person. Pretty interesting.

Love the little light houses! I’m down in Cape May and there’s quite a few in the Delaware Bay resembling what I see in the vid. The water is looking nice ! Beautiful hue to it. Very cool water drone nice imaging on it ! Tight Lines from The Delaware Bay 🍻
