I love your review of the Redoubt. A lot of RU-vidrs seem to dont like it. So I ordered one to see it in person. And I absolutely LOVE it. I LOVE the handle material and the knife!!! Its manufactured amazing, the metal liner inside support at the tip at least one inch. The Grivory material looks in real very noble for me. 100x better than G10! And stronger and lighter and just BETTER to use everyday. The blade steel is great!The blade shape is amazing for allround use. Sits very good in the hand with every possible gripposition you can think about - Benchmade makes knifes for people that use them, and this knife is so very well thougth. I hope Benchmade will never obay to all that internet reciewer, that never use their knife, that evaluate the grip of a knife based on "hammergrip", which nearly never is used when working with a knife.

Rob, It’s very refreshing to listen to your reviews. You review it as a tool that you carry, use and sharpen. And with Reeve and Benchmade you get forever warrantee.

Unlike the seeming prevailing thought, I absolutely love this knife…..bought two of them five months ago and never looked back! First positive review I’ve seen. Thanks for this.

Just got delivery of my Redoubt today (08/28/2023). Mine also says first production on the blade. It's a great slicer. It's so new but it already seemingly wants to drop shut. I haven't touched any screws on any of my Benchmades. I let them break-in naturally. The most I did with my Mini Grip and my 940-2 was to put a couple of drops of oil on the pivot and that was after letting the knives break-in. The handle of the Redoubt feels cheap but I love the contours and the girth. I'm sure I'm going to enjoy carrying this knife.

I think the Redoubt is a severely underrated knife. It’s got a lot of excellent features that are unfortunately over shadowed by a bunch of spec sheet snobbery. The price is a bit hard to argue for some folks but I grabbed mine on a whim during a “non advertised” sale for about 30% off. Now after using it for quite some time, the normal price is a bit more reasonable to me considering how impressed I’ve been with the Redoubt. I hope it sticks around long enough to see some other material configurations! On a side note, I love that Benchmade is using different tool steels like cpm d2 and cruwear these past couple years. Don’t get me wrong, cpm M4 is phenomenal but high hrc cruwear might be my favorite steel period and benchmade’s heat treat on these “new to them” tool steels has been excellent in my experience so far.

A lot of people have negative things to say about the Redoubt, but it’s mostly people who don’t own it. I got one when they came out, and it’s really a great knife. Very “inexpensive” for a BM and it’s a great user knife. It’s lightweight and super strong. The blade is large and extreme sharp. CPM D2 at 60-62 HRC is an awesome steel.
@chriswebb3018
@chriswebb3018 Год назад
Cpm- d2 at 62 rc is a great steel, but unfortunately it's ran at 59. And at 59rc it's not worth it to buy in my opinion, if they bump the hardness up like they did on the adamas I'd definitely get one.
@area51.52
@area51.52 Год назад
@@chriswebb3018 Benchmade website says 60-62.
@area51.52
@area51.52 Год назад
@@chriswebb3018 CPM D2 at 60 to 62 is a great steel. D2 only gets a mediocre name because the overseas market is loaded with cheaply made ingot D2. Benchmades CPM D2 performs better than most commonly used powder steels out right now. It’s right up there with S45VN and 3V. If CPM D2 was stainless, people would absolutely love it. Just gets a bad rap from all the budget D2 on the market.

It's good to see Rob doing a knife review. I would probably wait on this one, until they came out with some solid g10 scales. That hollow, clacky sound of the grivory would drive me nuts. It's a nice looking knife though.

Th redoubt and specifically its blade shape really does it for me, I havent tried one yet but I like it. It seems to get so much hate for that D2, but comparing it to xhp sorta makes sense. Makes me want to try it even more.

🔥🎸🔥 Interesting review. Only the deep pocket clip keeps me from buying this knife. I want a better purchase on my knife even at the expense of higher visibility. Otherwise the size, esthetic, and locking mechanism are all very attractive. Thanks for an informative video.

I dig it for sure. Been carrying this s o g terminus w "cryo" d2 that I have been very impressed with putting it through the paces. Running it course it's mean. Chi but got with gift card 🙏. Reminds me alot of C.S XHP

I really love that blade! The handle not as much but overall it's a buy for me....at $160. More than that I'll have to think about it. I might try to find a good used one. CPM-D2 is a good steel imo. Like you mentioned it should emulate CTS-XHP nicely. Love the Axis lock of course, not crazy about the Grivory construction at this price point anyway and that pocket clip looks like it'll allow material to "round the corner" and bunch up and snag. No? Idk. Think a Hogue Sig K320 is a much better choice. We'll see.

The Redoubt Is the only BM that interests me currently. I will pick one up here soon, and I agree with you on them choosing cpm d2 is a solid steel choice and i absolutely would take it over s30v/35vn/45vn, I have a couple knives in CPM D2 and find it to be a great preforming steel. People are ragging on it strictly because they have either gotten sick of D2 or heard D2 is "Bad" for someone and they are just going off that. D2 in its self isn't bad, well done D2 is actually a great steel and CPM D2 is on a whole different level and is a excellent high performance steel. Anyone that likes toothy aggressive edges will really enjoy CPMD2. Keep it in the 240 to 1000 grit range and it has all the edge aggression one can ask for and it keeps on to that aggression and doesn't go slick nearly as quickly as s35vn or s45vn.

Yeah even cheap d2’s main weakness is corrosion. But the Redoubt is coated.

I'll take a version with a gray aluminum handle with charcoal micarta inlay and CPM-M4 blade steel for $210, Rob.

Benchmade needs to ditch grivory all together. If they absolutely have to make cheap feeling handles, they should use the CF elite material which is far superior. In my humble opinion

Benchmade really did themselves a huge disservice by moving on to this instead of tweaking the scale and steel options when they had the magic going with the super freek. The Freek wasn't too dissimilar to the redoubt when it was released, the scales hurt it though. The super freek was well executed and tweaked what people didn't like about the freek. They left money on the table by NOT doing a freek in plain color g10/micarta and bumping the steel to 20cv or xhp that came in at slightly lower price point than the super freek.
@chriswebb3018
@chriswebb3018 Год назад
I'm glad they didn't put 20cv on the super freak, 20cv is a lesser steel compared to m4. I think BM is doing a great job and the only things I'd like to see from them is bumping the hardness up on all there models and using more carbon fiber.
