US Marine Helicopter Invasion in VIETNAM WAR! - Call to Arms: Vietnam War Mod Battle Simulator 

I’m pretty sure this map is based off the main battle site of the movie We were soldiers. Pretty cool recreation

This was a great video. This mod was an exact representation of the Batlle of the Ia Drang Valley at LZ X-Ray and LZ Albany which started on 14 Nov. 65 till 18 Nov. 65. This was 7th Cavalry commanded by COL Hal Moore. They were ambushed from the mountains by Vietcong. The way this mod was playing out was exactly how it happened for those boys in Vietnam. This was the unit I served with when I was active duty.

Hey Daly, so the part where you said 'usually ends in a trap' around 2:12 mark, did happen. During the battle of Ia Drang a platoon got cut off and surrounded by NVA/Vietcong. This was the first major battle, and that platoon of 29 men were deemed 'lost platoon',, with the NVA taking many of their weapons, including 2 M60s that were used against the soldiers. 25 hrs after they were cut off, 8 dead and 13 wounded. You should watch the movie We were soldiers, and/or read the book We were soldiers once....and young, which is written by Joe Galloway (who was a reporter on the ground with the soldiers), and their colonel Hal Moore.

Few mistakes 1. The battle is called ia drang not La drang 2. This battle was not fought by the marines but instead by the 1st Calvary division

I think utilizing Arty more effectively it would have helped. You basically have to read the map, pick the grid, then scroll down and choose a firing line within said grid. Either the barrage is North to South or East to West...and you match the enemy position, to the line you want, then execute the fire order.

I enjoy watching these your videos and hearing you think out loud. Very humorous and entertaining. I would like to see this mission again, attempting to maintain a defense on the creek first would be a suggestion.

Daley, this battle was based on the Veitnam movie "We Were Soldiers", and in the movie the creek bed was vital to keep, so it would've been good if you took it beforehand, but you should definitely try this again

Wow that is an intense mod! I can't really think of many other games where you lose because your commander got sniped randomly. And between the waves at that! Well the game lives up to it's name at least.

If you liked the mission I highly recommend you read the book (We Were Soldiers Once and Young) written by the commander of this op (Hal Moore) and/or watch the movie about it (We Were Soldiers). The movie is widely considered one of the most accurate war movies ever made and had several of the battle survivors consulting on the movie.

Oh this is La Drang the first major battle in the Vietnamese conflict and also about the 1st Air Cavlery Division which famously became named The Lost Batallion (not to be confused with the ww1 film of the same name). A real life event. And also had a book and film made, Both called We were soldiers, Mel Gibson was in the film and it is said to be around 70/ 80% accurate to actual events.

The GR21 or whatever the numbers where is short for Grid Reference u need to use ur map to call in ur artillery and air strikes

I belive the fire support is asking for 'GR' or a 'Grid Reference'. Then the co-ordinates that the fire mission is required to hit. For example, something like 'Artillery fire mission on GR, 77, 44". So you are telling them what square of the mini map should they strike against. Same with the planes which told you, they were flying North to South, so a strafing run would be best on that trajectory.

I would do it again but make your defences a lot closer to your squads as much as possible
