US and ARVN forces conducted a series of operations along the Mekong River Delta. “Deckhouse Five” was notable in that it was a sizable amphibious operation; with both U.S. Marine and Vietnamese Marine and it was the last Special Landing Force (SLF) amphibious landing to take place beyond the boundaries of I Corps. An SLF was the designation of the Marine battalion and medium helicopter squadron (HMM) assigned to the Seventh Fleet Amphibious Ready Group.

My great uncle was on vella la vella for about 6 months in latter 43 and was an armorer?? I Forgot what the devil dogs call it but he attached bombs and loaded up the .50's from 42 till early 44 when he got his requested assignment and moved to a mortarman with the 3rd marines.. anyway on vella la vella for 3 months he was assigned to Boyingtons 214 squadron... Nothing like Robert Conrad's show but I do have his bombloading jumpsuit which is cool... God bless the devel dogs each and every one... Semper fi

Aviation Ordnance is who loads and arms aviation weapons in the Marine Corps. Along with many other tasks associated with aircraft munitions.

Outside my office is a 1stLt Marine aviator (A4) hanging there, telling his short summary of how he helped the Special Force team (1966) from being overrun until he disappeared in the low-level fog. Wall of Faces...
