The USS Mesa Verde with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit arrives in Plymouth, UK as Marines and Sailors man the rails. Three MV-22 Ospreys are visible on the flight deck. The San Antonio-class Amphibious Transport Dock arrived at HMNB Devonport, Plymouth, on July 28th, 2023. Tugs from Serco provided guidance while an escort was provided by the Ministry of Defence Police. Royal Marines were also on-board.

An Amphibious Transport Dock / Landing Platform Dock (LPD) is a warship that carries, transports, and lands Expeditionary Forces, including personnel, amphibious vehicles and aircraft.
The San Antonio-class typically transport multiple MV-22 Osprey Tilt-Rotor Aircraft, Landing Craft Air Cushions (LCAC) (hovercrafts) or Landing Craft Utility (LCU) vessels that can transport automobiles, such as Armoured Fighting Vehicles. A group of Amphibious Assault Vehicles are also transported on board, capable of deploying into the water to reach land. These boats and amphibious vehicles can be used by Marines to land on shore in order to advance an expeditionary force, for example.
The USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19) deployed from North Carolina on July 10th, 2023, with the USS Bataan (LHD-5) and USS Carter Hall (LSD-50) as part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group/26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable).
