US Navy has ‘fallen massively behind’ on nuclear submarine production

The Australian Washington Correspondent Adam Creighton says the United States Navy has “fallen massively behind” on nuclear submarine production.
Mr Creighton said the US Navy has really got to “pick up the pace” on production.
There are concerns about US politicians not supporting the provision of nuclear submarines to Australia under the AUKUS agreement.

The us navy does not produce submarines. Private defense contractors produce submarines.

US Navy is in trouble, 8 ships were decommissioned last year because USN didn't have enough men to crew them.

We should be cap in hand to the Poms to keep up production of a couple more of the Astute class.

We shouldn't go 'cap in hand" to anyone....We should honour our contracts.......but I agree that the Astute class are a better option for us than the Virginia class.

There is capacity at BAE’s facility at Furness to build another Astute each four years. That’s in addition to building the new Vanguard SSBNs.

Australia is trying to acquire nuclear fast attack submarines, not ballistic missile submarines.

The US NAVY owns the largest submarine fleet in the world. Plus there's better more lethal technology available than Submarine's.

MHD drive, "Silent" USS Montana (SSN-794) Virginia attack class VS Russian Borei-A-class, British Navy's Vanguard-class or France's Barracuda-class "The Suffren". No challenge.

@@mrhassell between the Los Angeles class and the Ohio class Submarine's the US Navy can sink any enemy fleet worldwide and bring Doomsday all at the same time. Mutually Assured Destruction is terrifying and that's why it works.
