Thank you for the thorough review. From what I've read these can handle differently piece by piece from Windlass, but are still regarded well for the price point. Still on my shortlist in preparation for any unforeseen nautical adventures.
Thanks for your review! I’ve owned one myself for years and I really like it. Yes, as you say, not perfect-though for the price it’s very well done and, to my eye anyway, as a cutlass pattern goes, quite a handsome design. Except for the distal taper Windlass actually kept to the original design quite closely, the only real difference being the pommel cap is chunkier on average with the originals.
Its actually a well made sword. I've seen some very cheap sheath / frogs come out of India but this one is thick and holds firm. Full tang peened nice. My only complaint is the bells edge is not rolled so if worn your forearm / wrist strikes it. while not sharp enough to cut you, its sharp enough to cause an injury if you strike it hard enough.
The build is good for the price, I agree. Still no rattles - although I've not cut anything tougher than a milk carton, yet. I did take an accidental chunk out of the cutting stand once without the blade showing a mark. My sole gripe is that I find the wire wrap on the handle a bit harsh on a bare hand.
