This is the role for a Zumwalt ( or in this case an LCS ), as a defender mothership to coordinate and carry emergency repair staff as needed but to stay out of sight using their designed stealth capabilities. Then the flagship can carry a variety of the smaller USVs as well for further fleet defense.

If the US can get this working right it would certainly change how we fight. It would also help with the insane cost of building and upkeep for a massive manned fleet. I think the US Navy is making a very smart move I just hope they can set it all up before anything big pops off in the SCS. We need lots of these USVs with arsenals ready to launch instead of manned ships.

I believe the word the US military has decided to use is ‘Attritable’. These aren’t meant to be one time use, expendable, but the loss of a few is to be expected

Problem is with all these USV's is unless they are set to defend themselves what's to stop the Chinese, Russians, Iranians or North Koreans towing one off? Do they have an automated message they can broadcast warning they'll defend themselves if interfered with?

Pretty sure Iran did recently attempt to tow a very small one away but was stopped by manned USN surface vessels.

Ooof. It’s a little disappointing you think these don’t have cameras on them, trackers on them, or that they’re a US Navy ship and they’d not be watched over in some way.
